In regards to ARAH if Hasbro was to relaunch maybe have the Joes deal with multiple threats that eventually come together to form Cobra at the end of the 1st or 2nd season.

Hey Vangelus, hang that Canadian flag high cause Kenny Omega just did it…for Canada?

tbh I think it's less people forgetting that ARAH isn't the original, and more that ARAH is the part with a fiction core that bears any footholds which can be iterated upon
(though I am totally saying that while also expressing much love for what Revolutionaries did with pre-ARAH stuff)
to shameless yank something from twitter, an example of a modern Joe take would basically be Overwatch, when I'm not constantly forgetting that a chunk of the roster is supposed to be notCobra
Gojira Prime
I feel like people forget that the 80's GI Joe wasn't the original, and "an international force fighting terrorism" wasn't the core concept. The core concept was "boys like playing solider, lets give them dolls to play soldier with so they don't have to run around and hit each other with sticks." The problem with updating that concept is that video games have advanced to the point where kids find that outlet for playing solider more gratifying than action figures at this point. If Hasbro really knew what they were doing with GI Joe, they would have looked at the popularity of Halo back in the day, realized kids were playing solider with video games now, and saw that there was a gap that needed filling of kids having a game that could replicate playing as a modern-day, real-world solider. Gi Joe becomes primarily a video game series, backed by action figures, and they would have beaten Call of Duty to the punch.
Now though? They can't do that, cause they'd be seen as a copy. I think if Hasbro wants GI Joe to really come back, they need to analyze the current landscape not of toys, but of games and determine what niche of "boys playing solider" isn't being filled. Gritty modern warfare is clearly on the way out, people are sick of it, so now old-school warfare is being filled by the big two of COD and Battlefield, and kids get their sci-fi fix from superheroes, so what gaps are left? I'm not sure I can say, but I'm certain there has to be some audience that isn't being served that Hasbro could tailor GI Joe to work for, otherwise, I feel Joe is doomed to be a nostalgia property now.
