We’ve got a great new gallery of a toy from the Age of Extinction line that never left Japan to share with you! Courtesy of TFW2005 member Russian fan, we have a look at AD-31 Armor Knight Optimus Prime.
Armor Knight Optimus Prime is to the regular Age of Extinction Leader Optimus Prime what Buster Optimus Prime was to the Revenge of the Fallen Leader Optimus Prime – a toy that takes the base Leader toy we got at mass retail and then improves on it, with remolded elements, new accessories, and a premium level of paint to become the definitive version. For Armor Knight Optimus Prime, this meant a lot of remolding including the chest, arms and head, the latter of which was also reworked to include a gimmick to allow Optimus’ face to switch from a faceplate head to an unmasked one. The paint is also a step up and really helps to put this one over. If you’ve not got a toy of this new Movie Optimus Prime, right now, this is the definitive item.
Check out Russian Fan’s photos of this gorgeous piece at the link below, including some shots of the toy with the Beelzeboss die-cast Sword of Justice – I’m told that the weight of metal does unfortunately make it hard for the toy to hold, but it looks truly boss in the robot’s hands.

Dude I envy to you – you have Takara's Exclusive Voyager Hound!
I can note that everyone who have AD-31 Armor Knight Prime doesn't complain about the figure Rear wheels are almost unseen if viewed from the front and paint job and remolded parts really worth their money!

I love my Takara Age of Extinction Armor Knight Optimus Prime. Sure the mold isn't perfect but I think it was the best the HasTak designers could do considering the limitations that were placed on them by the execs above them. The face change gimmick is just aces.
Here he is with Hasbro Platinum Edition AOE Autobots.
AD-31 Optimus Prime with Takara AOE BLU-RAY Exclusive Voyager Hound.
The paint deco is just gorgeous in hand, no question. Alt mode, is great. Bot mode, I can easily live with.
Smashs
Yea, he really does need something on his thighs. I think there's enough room in alt mode to even clip something thin on.
Shizuka
See, if they had re-engineered the side pieces in robot mode I might have considered buying him.
Sentinel
Great pics sir. I'm a huge Buster Prime fan, but I'm very glad I picked this mold up (and will be getting the Nemesis version as well). It's far simpler than Buster, but the tweaks they did for this premium version make all the difference and make him definitely worth picking up.
You've done a great job capturing the details and amazing paint job they gave this mold.
Nice work.

So what's wrong with ROTF Prime? Once we get past tabbing those arms, it's smooth sailing transforming it.
vektsilver
You are basically saying once you make it not a transformer then its fine lol.
You can't kill the alt mode and call the figure great or even good for that matter.
Rotf prime may have been tricky but that's because they added those damn attached swords at the last minute to the transformation and got cheap with the chest transformation. Regardless it still crushes AOE prime and it is also extremely potable
I think Hasbro needs to be careful once they start removing the transformation as the cool catalyst and hacking the story line away they now compare them selves to other large robot genres. They will just get lost in the mix then because the writing for those shows and movies are for more interesting. Transformers stand out by being what they are "robots in disguise"
Hound89
I'm tempted to get it just for the arms.
OriginalFire
I think there is a KO of this coming out
Bountyan
Way better than the standard Hasbro version. But after ROTF Leader Prime I don't ever need to a buy any movie Optimus Prime toy again.
Datsun87
Definitely a step in the right direction but it is still an underwhelming mold. I'm sorry but when both MP-10 and the RotF molds are still getting remolded and reissued any retooling effort for a leader sized Prime is going to be compared no matter how unfair it may be.
That said, I wonder if HasTak is even going to bother with a MP-10/RotF calibur release for this Prime. We're looking at a reboot in the near future so maybe this Prime is as good as it is going to get for this design.
Wh33ls
Yeah, it's too bad that the armor side skirts are not attached to Prime's hips. If it was, I'd buy one and pull the backpack pin out and leave it like that.
If there was a way to mod the side skirts onto Prime's hips…
Verthawk
Thanks. Very helpful
Turakonin Prime
Nice figure. Still not as good as evasion Optimus. Wish there would've been a leader version of that. On the other hand, ALL AOE figures were the lowest quality ive ever seen hasbro produce. Seriously, since GO-BOTS lol.
Chigimus
Takara did a fantastic job with what was otherwise a disappointing release. Night and day comparison between their 2 releases, and not even a competition. Takara's version is an absolute beauty and this is one of the very few exceptions where polishing a turd actually produces a gem.
Prescient
I disagree, once you remove the backpack as per several posts above, it is one of the best.
It's highly posable, rock solid and can be transformed in a few quick stages unlike rotf prime; which is basically a rubix cube for tf fans rather than math nerds.
Greenspan
This is the worst movie Optimus toy imo. That backpack is horrible and the whole thing is so light it feels very cheap. Let's hope that they make a better mold of AOE Prime because he looks very good in the movie.
Digilaut
Great figure. Was going to get the model kit, but at the last moment that was revealed to not be as good as the DMK-1 l, so I quickly jumped ship.
Awesome how they remolded the parts, and the paintjob is phenomenal. Mold itself is not perfect (not as cool as ROTF Prime) but can hold enough cool poses. Don't agree with taking the backpack off however – he's too bulky, but becomes wayyy too thin looking when you take the kibble off. I also think Takara added the bigger, non-accurate shield to mask this mold's problem…but that's fine cos it's cool. Yo.
Russian fan
Agreed! Absolutely the best figure of 2014'! None the worse than ROTF Buster Prime! Because the level of details is the same
Smashs
Well obviously. Any version of the RotF mold is better IMO. Still a decent figure with some tweaks.
The one thing this figure wins on is the head. Having the swappable face in the helmet is genius. Every Optimus should be like that.
edit –
Sure does. I even demonstrate that in the thread. He can eve wear the backpack securely without the pin.
