As you command, Megatron! MP-29 Shockwave is hitting doorsteps now and we’ve run our copy through the motions in another TFW2005 gallery. Shockwave features a cartoon inspired color scheme, a very light purple compared with Shockwave toys past. He comes with swappable hands in clear and gray (and even has a left hand if you so choose), a hand-held blaster that’s a replica of himself, Decepticon logo stickers in classic or modern style, and features lights in all the right places. The Guardian of Cybertron is a fun toy with some unique leg transformation to get rid of those skinny legs from the original. The Masterpiece Decepticon ranks are a bit more full now, maybe one day we’ll get their leader in proper scale!

Just bought this figure on eBay (not a KO judging from all the distinguishing features) at a discount. I hadn’t wanted to due to all the negative press about it (height, color, skinny legs, perceived quality of plastic, etc.), but had an opportunity to buy it at a discount so I thought why not. I also have fanstoys quakewave but over time found him a bit lacking. Quakewave feels OK in hand but something just seems off about it, can’t quite put my finger on it, so decided to go for the Takara option and see how it went. The item in hand feels surprisingly good and the weight, although doesn’t have a lot of heft, almost feels ‘just right’ kind of like for Magnus. Transformation was fun and intuitive and the figure looks a lot better in hand than some of the photos shown for him. Overall very pleased with the purchase at the price I paid and am very glad he is part of my collection.

Afterburner just stepped out of a steaming, hissing time machine, with the origin coordinates set to 2007!

Classics?
Afterburner
He looks too clean to go with Classics in my opinion. If you want a good Leader Class Shockwave, Fanstoys version is almost perfect. The scale, build, and details are all more in line with a Classics release.

I believe Shockwave originated from Korea right?

getting mine from the same place as my Grand Galvatron I got on sale, How does he look with the CW leader Seekers, Megatron and TR Soundwave?

First time looking at this thread in 6 months, and the conversation is STILL about height and color!
Although to be fair, tenkaros' custom is the first repainting of MP shockwave I've seen where I like the new color. MP Shockwave is on the light side, but all the other customs I've seen don't quite get it right either (for me).
My only real fault with MP Shockwave is that he's a little too top heavy, and falls over too easily. And it's even worse if you leave the chest batteries in. Otherwise, he's just awesome all over.

I am going to buy it for my son!they are really cool!

Yes but the MP Megatrons and Prime are overdoing it imo.
It's different if you got several characters who are taller and several shorter, but if you got the leader being significantly taller than all others you have a kind of Snowwhite effect.
Optimus Prime23
In the cartoon, Megatron was always slightly taller than Shockwave and Soundwave (who were about the same height) and noticeably taller than Starscream.
Roadbuster25
Yeah, the feet, height, and color were my biggest disappointments with MP Shockwave. So many Transformers can balance on one foot. But definitely not him.
Windsweeper II
Perfect for me would be Megs, Shocks and Soundwave all the same size.
The leader towering over absolutely everybody is bullshit.

Ah, you're right – they add height!
Wh33l JcK
I never saw him as tall as Megatron, Soundwave maybe… I think there was definitely a season 2 episode where he was eye-to-eye with Starscream though… Which puts him at the right height.
… but yeah.. I would have preferred taller and toy colors.

MP Shocky is the one & only time where I wish the figure didn't follow the toon scale chart or coloring. Right or wrong, Shockwave was always as big and imposing as Megatron, and the two stood eye to eye… he wasn't some skinny little pastel colored shrimp that looked up to Megs, Soundwave or Screamer. But that's just me.
Unfortunately, there's still no suitable stand-in offered by the 3P's (yet). I thought Quakeblast would do the trick, but for as great as that figure is in way of size, color & proportions, there's still something a bit off about it.

I get your point and I'm not arguing that – simply pointing out that we, as fans, may have other ideas in our heads from the plethora of other media we've grown up with.
The fact that my MP display includes the OS seekers rather than the standard sized ones, and the fact that I'd LOVE larger Grapple and Inferno's should obviously indicate that my own preference for scale differs from Takara's anyway.
franpincho
The Takara scale is the MP scale. There is no other "scale". They own the IP, it is their brand, therefore what TT decides the scale is going to be, that's what it is.
We can all argue how bad-ass Shocky was in the comics (he was amazing) but TT follows the cartoon. That's it.
Not disagreeing with the fact that you wish it'd be different, after all we all want different things. But the whole "it should be as tall as Megs" gets a bit old and repetitive, when we all know cartoon Shocky was a useless, tiny idiot.
stevej
Weird. Must be the deeper purple making him look more imposing in these photos then. As you were, internet!
Edit: Actually I'm not going crazy. According to the Radicons post highlighting the changes in this custom the new feet have added 2-3 mm to the height of the figure. Amazingly that seemed to make an obvious difference for me despite it seeming like such a small increase.
bfett88
I have to agree, I really do think that the official Shockwave goes best with MP 36.

Not sure what you mean about size. He *is* that size.
