New Zealand MINT, specialized in fine mint collectible coins, have update their website with images and information of a new officially licensed Transformers G1 Optimus Prime 1oz silver coin.
This is a very elegant 1-ounce coin of pure silver (4 cm diameter) with a face value of just NZ$2 but listed for $99.00 with worldwide shipping included. Limited to 3,000 units, it comes in a really nice G1 themed box. The coin itself will be one of the last to be minted with Queen Elizabeth on the back.
See all the mirrored stock images and product description, including some great pics of a sample shown at Sidney Oz Comic Con; courtesy of our very own griffin-of-oz; and a promotional video after the break. Click on the discussion link below and share your impressions on the 2005 Boards!
Heroic and noble leader Optimus Prime has transformed into a 1oz pure silver coin! This is the first release in our awesome new coin series featuring all of your favourite classic Transformers characters!
This round pure silver coin features Optimus Prime in full colour, as seen in the 1984 series The Transformers. The Transformers logo and the year 1984 have been engraved and frosted, and a mirror-finish background makes the silver shine. To confirm the coin as legal tender, the obverse displays the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth ll.
Officially licensed, this prime piece is held inside an acrylic capsule, to ensure easy transporting of your coin while protecting it from The Decepticons! It is then nestled in black velvet inside a high-quality box, that features The Transformers-themed imagery. Printed on the back is a Certificate of Authenticity and the coin’s unique number in the limited mintage of 3,000.
Order yours today and transform your collection!

Next one in the series is already available: Bumblebee (Decepticon fans, we will have to wait )

I'm debating on displaying mine with my other coins or with my Transformers. Maybe it is time to make an Optimus Prime shelf and put it with them.

Super fast shipping bought Sunday and arrived today. Not even 48 hours after checking out. (Including a Sunday.)

Currency wise it's NZ$2. A bag of lollies perhaps.

Keep in mind the only people interested in buying this from you in the future will be TF collectors and a small subset of silver coin collectors. Most coin collectors won't be interested because it has no numismatic value. Silver stackers will be interested, but only willing to pay spot for the silver.

I was like "cool" until I saw the price. I think I got an Uncle Scrooge 1 oz silver from them a couple years ago for $16. These coins are usually priced a few dollars over spot. I guess the box and "limited" status on this one justify the price.
ETA: I just saw the coloring. It's cool, but I don't go in for those.

First country to do the BW golden disks as official currency will get my money.

Yep, I figured that Pulse Con buried my post and griffin-of-oz had pictures and a better written opening post.
Either way I do have to let people know that NZ Mint is solid. Bought some other coins from them and all were in some nice display and storage device. They also offer free shipping with signature.

To be fair, PulseCon was all the rage back then & so it was possibly overlooked.
– Dude saw a Prime opportunity to Roll Out self promotion.
– Silver Optimus in the thread title is a sure way to be seen.
– More personable cos taken from little known Sidney Oz Comic Con.
I'll see myself out…

New Zealand does this a lot. They have had marvel coins etc. one Oz of .999 troy silver is currently around $16.00 US. The solver is more valuable than the $2.00 coin value. I think it has to have a monitary value attached to be official and this is just an arbitrary value.
The "value" is the fact that there are only 3000 minted.
I think the presentation is pretty cool!!! This would be something really interesting for a coin collector. I wish I could have gotten the United Kingdom Transformers stamps. It was the last official goverment documet with the Queen on it. Now will be King Charles. Kind of reminded me of the last thing that Orsen Wells did was the transformers movie.

I understand that their silver coin with the image of G1 Megatron on the obverse, will King Charles III be depicted on the reverse of such a coin for the first time?

I could buy 4 Deluxes with that much money!

I never used to be superstitious, but something about this gives me the willies.

Pay $99USD for a $2NZ coin. Man what a racket haha. XD
It looks nice, but is this the norm in the world of coin collecting for newly minted coins?
