Following our report of the Studio Series Voyager Class Wave 5 at US retail, now we got word that the Studio Series Leader Class Wave 2 has also bee released at US Retail
Thanks to 2005 Boards member thatonefoo sent us photographic proof and receipt of his sighting of Studio Series Leader Class SS-34Dark Of The Moon Megatron who was found at Target in Alhambra, California. His wave partner SS-35 Revenge Of The Fallen Jetfire should be found on shelves any time soon.
Time to dash to you local Target, happy hunting!

I too grabbed both leaders megatron and jetfire. My first impression, wow! Jetfires box is HUGE compared to Megs. And it looks so much better in person, almost masterpiece mpm quality for Jetfire. When I was mulling over possible SS candidates, Jetfire never even crossed my mind. But wow Hasbro has done well with this new version. A huge improvement over its rotf counterpart! And the price point has stayed the same for the leader class.
Bring on the new Primes, and Bonecrusher. Yesssss
Its too big for voyager class considering its alt mode

Depends on which "new SS Voyager Prime" you're referring to.
The wave 5 retool of the wave 1 figure that can combine with Leader Jetfire? That one is indeed out, as a quick look around would have shown.
Studio Series voyager wave 5 at U.S. Retail
On the other hand, if you're referring to the all-new (supposedly) wave 6 figure in the design from the Bumblebee movie, that one has not been sighted yet.

Anybody know if the new SS voyager prime is at U.S retail yet?

I’m happy that scale is a gimmick in Studio Series as well, but the one downside to that is just that figures aren’t always priced accordingly to their sizes, pretty much always for the worse. Regarding gimmicks, I wish that the toys for AOE and TLK each had a line-wide gimmick because they felt a little lacking, especially with the higher prices.

My Target in Burbank has 1 DOTM Megatron. Hopefully one of you can snag it, for those that want it. They also have deluxe Dropkick who looks pretty bad in person.

This is showing me that DOTM megs should've been sold as a Voyager and they just slapped the 50$ pricetag on him for shits and giggles. Disgusting.

Im actually quite happy that "scale" is the gimmick. I hate all those stupid light up eyes, voice boxes, and spring loaded missiles that resemble dildos. Im not trying to 'play" with these things, I display them. Im glad the newer lines have done away with the "gimmick" or at least made it an extra you can toss in your parts box. Although they did get us for $50 on a voyager Shockwave with a bunch of armor crap nobody wanted. Not to mention a $50 cartoon accurate Orion Pax with a crap trailer that merges into the poor mans MP-10. Those bastards…lol

Is it the same for the dcpi number?

That's good to hear then. I actually only have a couple of leader class figures and my most recent one is Thundercracker from Combiner Wars. That one already felt small and underwhelming (not bad, but underwhelming), so I guess I kind of know what to expect. The other leader class figure that I have is Revenge of the Fallen Optimus by the way, so there's a huge difference right there. One thing that I find to detract from value of some leader class figures is a lack of lights and sounds, actually, but I would say that that's something that I would only have wanted to be included with the leader class figures for AOE and TLK. I digress right here, but just for the sake of ranting and discussion, I'd like to mention that the AOE and TLK lines were really lacking in that they were missing some special gimmicks, which was something that the previous 3 movies had. Some of the gimmicks could get annoying, but they would still add something more unique to each line, along with more play value for kids. Now that's where Studio Series comes in, since it's supposed to be like a Generations-esque line of figures of the live action movie versions of Transformers. The line somewhat makes up for the lack of special gimmicks with the backdrops, scale (for better or worse considering pricing), and sometimes improved movie accuracy, but unfortunately, it doesn't always seem to follow through. From what I've seen, it seems that leader Blackout and DOTM Megatron are heftier than the voyagers, but they're around the same size as them and it's not because the voyagers are bigger than usual, which is really what should be the case.
Ouch. I guess that the leader class The Fallen (which I really hope becomes a reality) will have to be smaller than the voyager

Thanks man! And I feel that all too well– it's insane to me how much noticeably faster figures show up at retail out here. And I've only been here a month!

The Studio Series is clearly holding a close to Scale as possible; it's the Lines Gimmick. Also prepare for possible disappointments in the future.
MacFormer97
I actually agree about the smaller deluxes. I haven't been able to justify the price for Jazz yet– I know he's good, but he's just so small.
I will, however, say that I think Megatron justifies the price. He is noticeably bigger than the Siege leaders and, while not as solid plastic-wise as Magnus, still feels good. He's not small.
LEGOprime
That's a shame regarding that comparison between Megatron and Ultra Magnus, since it's sounding like the Studio Series leader classes are not only smaller, but they're also not as good of quality – still for the same price. On the note of size for Studio Series figures, I really wish the smaller deluxe figures would be considered as scout classes instead (after all, Bumblebee is a scout in canon). I really want some of the figures, but I'm finding it really hard to even think of spending $20 on such tiny figures. I'd probably pay $15 max for them, considering the movie scene backdrops that are included.
MacFormer97
I will say that Megatron is much more massive than the voyager version, although he is the same-ish height.
The weird thing though is that he is nowhere near as heavy as Siege Magnus. Holding each of them in one hand, Magnus seems way heavier than SS Megatron. Whatever plastic quality they are using with Siege undoubtedly feels better than the current Studio Series toys.

What is it with these new leader class figures being the same size as voyager class figures? Sure, they have transformations that are at least somewhat more complicated than those of the voyagers, but overall, it just seems like a cop-out. What should happen is they leave the transformations, detailing, and most of everything else the same for the leader class figures, but upscale them for scale. As is, they're essentially voyagers that are slightly more complicated, from how it seems.

No shit? That’s awesome man, best of luck to you out there! At least you’ll be getting these figures before us lol. I went all around Indy looking for the leaders and voyagers.

Moved out to LA about a month ago As if LA needs more people.

For those of you calling targets and giving them that upc number don’t even bother. They use the same upc for all leaders, I called the closest target and they said 2 were in stock. I show up and they were Grimlocks
