After a little bit of a hiatus on this particular project, third party/independent group ToyWorld has just made a splash with their homages to the Generation 1 Throttlebot team revealing their versions of Goldbug, Freeway, Wideload, and the team’s combined mode! It’s been widely speculated and assumed that this team of figures would combine, although not entirely confirmed until now. The reveal came down today over at ToyWorld’s webpage, which also confirmed the expected release date for the remaining figures (although no preorder information is available yet):
* TW-T04 2014
* TW-T05 2014
* TW-T06 2014
Are you okay with your Throttlebots combining? Does the combined mode reveal make you want to track down these figures? Sound off on the boards with the discussion link below!

I can't help but wonder if the combining gimmick in this set was actually not planned from the start, as if it had entered the plan after the first two were released.
Aurora/White and Grind Rod/Green's transformation into legs is entirely external, without the kibble they don't really transform at all aside from shifting the front parts up which you already do for robot mode. Highway/Blue and Trace/Red are so strange, the plastic they're made out of feels cheap and Knockoff-like compared to the plastic all the others are made out of, and it feels as though they were designed by someone entirely different from whoever it was that designed the first two, out of scale and super panel-heavy. Sideload/Orange meanwhile is a panel-heavy nightmare that really feels overengineered to the point transforming him without a tutorial video just straight up isn't possible. Shinebug/Gold is alright, but he's also a bit too complex for his own good.
Honestly out of the entire set, I could only recommend Aurora, Grind Rod and Shinebug. The rest are just poor in comparison and actually feel as if they were made with the same kind of quality you'd expect from Universe/Generations-era HasTak.
The annoying thing is since getting these, Trace's arm broke because of those thin plastic rings on his forearm slider bits, and for whatever reason it feels like he's the only one no website ever has in stock. Not even sure I WANT to replace him.

I recently completed the set after years of being imncompete with a $45 Sideload an man, what a piece of shit. Worst transformation I've probably ever seen on a figure. This set was really compromised by the unnecessary combining gimmick, I just don't get how Rollbar was essentially perfect and and each subsequent figure was a little worse than the last.

The mushroom peg that holds the crotch/waist piece to the torso on aurora just broke on mine. Really sucks, I assuming there's no way to get a replacement right? I superglued it and it hold a but using the waist swivel seems like it will just re break it. I also had the same type of mushroom pegs that hold the upper legs to the hips shred on both legs back when the toy was new and BBTS send a replacement then. I have grind rod and trace as well and they all have mushroom peg type joints that are all tight, I feel like they will all break eventually so I just stopped using them for years. I always go back and forth on finishing the set. Are the OS any better plastic quality?
Hyoumaru
I poured some loctite into them and set them in place. I don't know if it'll hold, maybe I should chop off a tiny bit of those springs to relieve the tension, or maybe that'll make the ratchets too weak to hold up the combiner.
I just don't know what to do. I don't even know if I transformed it into torso mode correctly, I don't know where to properly place the forearm panels or if they're supposed to be sandwiched inbetween the other panels.
I want to like this set, but now I feel scared to touch it.
Renidragon
That happened to mine in two different places. The good news is that it’s not hard to fix. Just open him up and glue the ratchet teeth in place. Just make sure you let that glue sit overnight at least.

Got the kibble today, put him together after some struggling with Wide/Side Load's torso mode

And then when I tried to separate him back into the separate Throttlebots, Wide/Sideload's hip ratchets shredded the notches that hold them in place, making the combine mode impossible to stand upright.
I'm very upset.

Fair enough… they have their issues, but I still enjoy them. I actually like their quicker transformation and see that as a plus. Dont always have or want to spend 15+ min on a more complex transformation.
I can see the non-attachment to the characters as reasonable too. I liked the different car models and the variety they added.
Anyways, they work for me
Hyoumaru
Offhand I can think of a few reasons, though I want to say I deeply enjoy them all first and foremost and personally all of these are not dealbreakers.
-The paint on Aurora/White is not good. It's very sloppy and I had to do a lot of cleanup and spot-painting after I got him.
-Aside from Aurora/White and Grind Rod/Green, the transformations are just not fun. Expressway/Blue's chest feels like it's put together wrong and can't transform into robot mode correctly even though it apparantly is, the chest/front fender swivel system on Trace/Red is difficult to operate, Shinebug/Gold's car doors are difficult to unpeg and the thin windows attached to them via hinge make it too frightening to apply more force, and Side Load/Orange simply can't be transformed without parts popping off.
-Expressway/Blue and Trace/Red screw with the scale of the set. In both modes they've visibly out of scale with all the other vehicles/robots.
-Aurora/White and Grind Rod/Green are the only ones with wrist swivels, and Grind Rod/Green's armdoors make his relatively useless.
-They never got reprolabels, despite the mold's showing evidence possibly meant to bait Toyhax into making them. Aurora/White is the only one with a license plate for some reason.
-All the combiner kibble came with Shinebug/Gold, which is a bit annoying because he's unnecessary for making the combiner otherwise complete, but then again people probably would have skipped him if the kibble was distributed with the bots they attached to.
-The Throttlebots are relatively unknown characters outside of Goldbug, and even so the Toyworld designs aren't accurate to any designs previously seen in media, down to the fact they change into different car models.
I can't speak for any of the KOs, don't know if they changed the molds any, only that they came in some different colors.

Love my set…also have OS version to fit with the other MP combines. I don't know why these guys don't get much 3p love. They work great as MP minibots.
Hyoumaru
As of today, I have a full set of Toyworld Throttlebots. Don't have the combiner kibble since I agreed to buy all six in sets of two despite the fact I already owned Aurora and Grindrod so it'll be shipped with the secondaries of those once I buy them, but I've experienced all of them.
It's sad, I actually like Side Load a lot in robot mode and vehicle mode, but transforming him is such an intense mental exercise and it always feels like I'm going to break something. Expressway's chest never feels like it's transformed right in robot mode either, and Shinebug's car doors always require a tool to come undone transforming from vehicle mode.
I do really like all of them though. It'll be interesting to combine them once I can get the kibble. Thankfully I found someone who'll buy the second Aurora and Grind Rod too.

You know what, I was JUST messing around with mine like three days ago and ran into the same problem. I was too lazy to grab the instructions to see what I was doing wrong.
Renidragon
Dude, I just noticed – mine has that too!
I've got Trace on order now (from China, so it's taking a while), Highway and Shinebug just arrived the other day, and I've had Aurora and Grindrod for awhile now. Man, these guys are all great figures. I'm really fond of em.
Renidragon
Hi guys! I just got Shinebug, and I'm sure once I get his arms figured out going back to alt mode, he'll be one of my favorites… but I have an issue with him. I can't get his gun to store in alt mode – the grooves seem to small for the parts that are supposed to tab into them. I can force it in, but it just pops right back out (and I've earned a stress mark for my efforts!). Does anyone have an idea of what to do? Pictures included. Red circles are the parts I'm talking about, yellow circle is a stress mark.View attachment 28636398 View attachment 28636399

Shame it wasn't the other leg – at least then I could have swapped some parts.
G.I.EDDIE
Just image searched it. It looks extremely common.
Max Tower
Oh the Humanity ; I recently bought a 2nd Aurora – as my original has a big hole in the leg and then when I open another one brand new it has the exact same flaw – I guess Toyworld are in no position to offer fixes on something this old – but darn is that annoying ; I'm hardly the only person to have this issue – it must have been pretty common for two of them to have the exact same error like that.

I'd still be interested in a repaint of this set – even if the plastic quality is a little bit brittle.
