After a delay due to unfortunate circumstances, RenegadeCon 2021 is set to begin today (Friday, 27th August 2021) at 3:00 PM Pacific time.
Held virtually by Renegade Game Studios, the event will span for two days with content from Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Power Rangers franchises.

Behind the scenes of Renegade’s upcoming Power Rangers, G.I. JOE, and Transformers Roleplaying Games lies a brand new system, Essence20. Read on to learn a little about this new system, and tune in to RenegadeCon VIrtual Special Edition this weekend to see it in action in the new games, and learn more about it from the creative team! Senior RPG Producer Elisa Teague also sat down with Forbes magazine to talk about Essence20 and the Power Rangers Roleplaying Game, which you can find here.
First off, as you may suspect from the name, Essence20 is a d20 based system. The core mechanic for resolving a roll is for the player to roll a d20 along with their Skill die (ranging from a d2-d20). The result of the d20 and skill die must exceed the difficulty of the test in order to succeed. Characters with a specialization in the skill being tested get to roll their skill die and all dice below it, and pick the highest result to add to their d20 roll, increasing their odds of success! What’s more, a max value roll on ANY die is a critical success, leading to more chances for crits and more opportunities for great roleplaying incorporating them.
Character creation follows a three-pronged approach, based on their Origin (what type of person are they?), Role (what is their place on the team?), and Influence (what experiences have led them to this point?). Character’s abilities and skills are based on the 4 S’s, Strength, Speed, Smarts, and Social. These options give an amazing depth and breadth to the variety of characters that a player can create!
The character backgrounds, character flaw system, and Story Point system (awarded for mission success, special heroics, and spectacular roleplaying) lend themselves to a cinematic and cooperative roleplaying experience that is a great fit for settings like Power Rangers, G.I. JOE, and Transformers. A couple of weeks ago, Renegade Studios issued an announcement stating that their RenegadeCon Virtual 2021 event will showcase Transformers content.

Renegade Game Studios website have updated a new page with information and pre-orders of their new Transformers Deck Building game.
We had reported our first look at the packaging and official description of the game some days ago, and now we have a pre-order listing with a promo pack and expected for release in August this year. You can pre-order your deck here for $45.00. We can confirm that you can play the game solo or up to 5 players.

Via boardgamegeek.com we have our first images of the packaging, as well as an official description, of the new Transformers Deck Building Game by Renegade Game Studios.
We had previously reported that Renegade Game Studios had extended their partnership with Hasbro in order to manufacture board and card games. Now we can confirm that their first product is a new G1 Transformers Deck Building Game. A deck-building game is a card game or board game where construction of a deck is a main element of gameplay. Unlike other card games, the cards are not sold in randomized packs, all of them come in one single pack for you to build your best deck.

A while back, we posted a news regarding Renegade Studios entering a brand new licensing agreement to manufacture RPG board games based on Hasbro properties. Transformers is one of them.
Creative talent at Renegade is working tirelessly during this ‘new normal’ period to complete their work and highlighted the same during an online podcast.
Elisa Teague, Senior Producer of Role Playing Games, stated the following:
“No, you’re not gonna be playing [as] Optimus Prime or anything like that. You get to pick up your own character. What kind of vehicle are you going to be? What is your motivation? What is your your rank? Are you an Autobot? What is your primary function? So, you get to create all of that and go off on adventures. That stuff is really exciting and it is coming along so amazingly and I just want to be out already, I know everybody does, but it’s been a joy to work on for sure.”
Additionally, she also highlighted G.I. Joe. It is likely that the gaming mechanic will be the same for the Joe brand as well.
The Transformers TCG officially ended, this summer. [email protected]’s regular pair meet to exhale in regards to that event, before inhaling to talk about what’s next.

TFW2005 Moderator Wreckgar reports sad news from the Transformers Trading Card Game team: Wave 5, Titan Masters Attack, is the game’s final TCG release.
We are informing our players and retailers so they can make the best decisions regarding event participation and product ordering. The Transformers TCG team wishes to recognize the tremendous effort that fans and retailers put into building a great community.
