Via Newage Facebook account, we have images of color prototype of their upcoming NA S01 Romulus (CHUG Scale G1 Megatron).
While Newage is well-known for their releases for the competitive Legends scale market, S01 Romulus is their take on a modern CHUG scale G1 Megatron with cartoon-accurate design and a classic gun mode. He comes with 4 interchangeable faces, his energy maze, gun and energy sword.
We also have images in both modes, plus comparison shots next to modern figures, including Earthrise Voyager Optimus Prime and the new SS 86 Commander Optimus Prime for those wondering about the exact scale.
See the images after the jump and then sound off on the 2005 Boards!

Seeing as Magic Square is also in the MP game, I'd say they're the Magic Square of legends

Yeah that's what I'm saying. Both those companies have put out some winners.
The best thing about Newage, though, is that the transformation is usually enjoyable.
Alternatively, 10 minutes in on a FT transformation, and I'm ready to toss the figure out the window. If the figure hadn't made its way out the window, once I transform those SOBs I set it and forget it. Never to be touched again.

MMC Cassettes are pretty awesome and XTB made a pretty sweet Cosmos.

I'd say MMC or XTB when they are good. MS is much more consistent and less buggy than the companies I mentioned. That said when MMC and/or XTB are on their game…they are damn good.
KL78451821
Haha. That's funny.
MonsterMash
No no no. Magic Square is usually good.
Hyoumaru
So what does that make Magic Square? X-Transbots?

Here's hoping you are right.

The first version of Skyfire was 89.99 on showz. So it's possible. I'm hopeful

It is still expensive for NA, but taking into consideration the size of the figure, its rarity at this scale, and the quality usually provided by NA, I would say it is fairly priced.
To me, NA is the Fantoys of the Legends world. If they offer similar quality at the CHUG scale (priced higher than Legends but lower than FT prices), they may have no real competition which would make their figures highly sought after. Well until MS enters the arena haha.

This is Newage, so pricing is actually better than I expected
Memph99Q4Ev
Ouch, that's MP pricing. Hell that's MORE than the 3rd party MP Megs.
Assuming this is the pricing, or even 100bucks, IMHO that's a little too much for CHUG scale. And it's too small with G1 Op. Now, this Megs has some room for exception since this may be the only option, but if they were to try and tackle Optimus, it's like "why give them that much when I can grab SS86 and be done with G1 Optimus"? Same with other available characters than can be found at Walmart.
datterboy
For all those worried about who to pair this with from their Op collection, I would bet money that NA is going to make a V2 Optimus Prime that will pair with this perfectly and it will be a completely new design from their Legends Op. They can't be satisfied with that effort and would not just upscale that for a match here.

I'm kind of at that stage but it's more that I decided to start buying a lot fewer toys which means I can afford to spend more on any given figure.
KL78451821
Early days on that figure, as I probably saw the images and transformation you all saw, but from that little video NA's Megs might be the best 7" G1 figure available. I'd like to see it bigger, obviously, but to be paired with ER Prime once it releases no one's beating it.
bad comedy
Yeah, if Romulus is over $100, I will be more hesitant over the price. I've been messing with my ER Prime today and I'm happy with it. I can't justify 86 Prime to myself and would rather have a great Megatron. My CHUG Megs is the Siege version that I got on sale, so I'm much more interested in upgrading that.
KL78451821
I'd say I'm more concerned about the price because I couldn't pair him with SS86 Prime. BUT, I'm undecided on whether to wait out on SS86 Soundwave or just keep what I have (ER sizing). I'm with you on the idea of purchasing a definitive Megs, even at the higher price. It must be stated that I'm looking for a G1 CHUG sized Megatron.
Actually, who am I kidding..CHUG = SS86 sizing haha.
bad comedy
I understand. I'm trying to wrap up my collection, but this new figure and MS Bruticus have thrown me a curveball.

I wish i am also at that stage where i can afford to not worry about price
bad comedy
I'm not worried about the price. The aesthetic and transformation have me hooked. Just pulled out my ER prime, and I'm fine with pairing them. I've given up on finding the perfect prime. I have both versions of MS prime (masterpiece scale) so I'm burnt out. I'll be happy with a good Megs. Plus, it will make the upcoming MS Bruticus look even more imposing with a smaller Megs.
