The official Takara Tomy YouTube channel have finally uploaded the full special Transformers 40th Anniversary Special Video animated by Studio Trigger.
Trigger has worked in several famous anime series like Kill la Kill, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, SSSS.Gridman, SSSS.Dynazenon and other projects, and brought us a IMPRESSIVE homage to the 40 years of history of the franchise from G1 to the present. There’s no CGI on this video, all it’s made by good-old classic cell animation style.
The director, storyboard artist, producer and animation director is Amemiya Akira, director of the film Gridman Universe. The video uses the song “Mayday” by popular Japanese band BUMP OF CHICKEN, released in 2007.
Update: Added a real HD mirror courtesy of our very own 2005 Boards member westjames aka notirishman via his YouTube account.
Update #2: Interview with director Akira Amemiya with English subs available added after the jump via Trigger Channel YouTube.
We are sure you will have fun catching all the cameos and characters on the video, including the colorful Bump Of Chicken x Transformers Optimus Prime revealed some days ago. Watch the video now after the break and then sound off on the 2005 Boards!

It’s called the micron Trilogy in Japan.

I like the part when the lyrics sings …alive and the video cuts to the live action crews.

As previously noted, the anime industry is a collaborative effort (not unlike the VFX industry, if I'm being honest). That's why you have Madhouse, I.G or Colorido doing in-between animation (the frames between the keys). These studios would have had animators available and between projects that allowed Trigger to utilize their services. The staff at Trigger has also worked with many of the studios in the past, be it for said studios or the other way around. I.G and Madhouse have done plenty of projects as an additional party as a result.
It's also why in anime there's usually a handful of episodes not done by the main production house, as the studios who co-produce are between jobs and looking for whatever jobs come to them to tide them over. Some studios even specialize in a certain element. Which is why background art and compositing are almost always outsourced to other studios by default in anime titles.
There's also a few departments that aren't touched on at all, such as the concept of "2nd Key Animation" (aka the cleaning up of rough keyframes that's become increasingly prevalent in recent years).

40th Anniversary expo still place GF in the same universe as ML and SL.

Impressive you were able to do this to find every single character and reference
I don't think I would have been able to do this myself

I was so inspired by the video and by you pointing this out that I added the grin to my '86-inspired Rodimus Prime repaint!

I've already said this before on Twitter and my Discord server, and I'll say this again:
This is what the Transformers Legacy show that Netflix passed on should have been.
