We can share you have new promotional images and information about the Transformers 40th anniversary Manju Netsuke Optimus Prime.
This is a special Optimus Prime figure which can transform into a manju netsuke, a classic and traditional miniature sculpture used as a button fastener, originating in 17th century in Japan.
This figure will be a limited made-to-order item, priced 660000 yen which is about not-so-economic $4532 USD. Pre-orders will be accepted at the next location of the Transformers Expo 2024 in Tokyo from September 13th to September 29th, 2024.
Now we have some better images and additional information about this figure, which is probably the most expensive Optimus Prime figure to date:
- It’s made by famous Japanese artisan Yuki Tsuboshima.
- The figure is made of silver and made-to-order, which explains the high price.
- The artist has previously made other transforming netsuke píeces. Very detailed and impressive. You can check some of their works via his Instagram, Twitter/X accounts, and YouTube accounts.
- This “figure” is considered more like a fine hi-end handicraft item, specifically made for the Japanese market.

Q Prime
Clearance on the 4k dollar figure of which only ten copies will exist?
Optimax Prime
Anyone else wonder how long until people recolor him into his usual colors and\or the usual repaints he tends to get?
Requiem Prime
At least the expense makes sense even if it's one of the weirdest extravagances Takara's ever dipped into.
WhiskyTFoxtrot
No waist swivel, no ankle tilts. Might make a decent Cosmos redeco, though. I'll wait for clearance.

10 very lucky people!
Now they just have to wait until the end of 2026 to get it.

pretty sure its already been mentioned this gives off more Primal rather than Prime vibes given the color scheme…
but it did get me to look into what-why something like this was used for…
and also wondering when some 3rd party will start making affordable knockoff versions the rest of us can purchase

Is it on clearence yet?

I'm reminded of the time I happened upon a goldsmith's shop in Kyoto and noticed a Hyaku-Shiki model kit on display, with an insane price tag (I believe the kit normally goes for about 1800 yen). Then I realised it was actually covered in actual gold. The price then made sense. I can even understand why: they didn't just wrap the whole thing in gold and call it a day, they carefully coated or covered only the golden parts of the kit with gold. I just assumed there was a certain level of craftsmanship involved.
I'm also reminded of why some foodstuffs are so insanely expensive. Some of it is artificial scarcity, sure, but some stuff can only be grown at certain locations at certain times. It's totally understandable why they'd cost so much.
Personally, I respect the craftsman here because he designed this himself. He could've just carved a netsuke with an Autobot symbol on it, or a small statue of Optimus Prime, but he went for an actual transforming figure.
Considering it's made of silver and all, I can absolutely see this being the kind of thing you hand down to your kids.

I get that this clearly isn’t for you, but why such a negative attitude?
This thing is awesome. If I had that kinda cash to burn I would love to own one.
You buy something like this for yourself, not to impress others. What a strange mindset.
Handmade to order, with the maximum set at 10, probably because of the maker’s capacity limits. Not contradictory at all.

No, it was indeed not.

I guess the sarcasm wasn’t obvious?

As I said, some people have so much money that it becomes incredibly difficult to convey to others… that they have a lot of money.
That said, you can't display this in a meaningful way because NO ONE will realize this tiny thing is worth over $4500.
Limited to 10? What happened to "made to order"?
It honestly looks like a welder's personal project. Remove the fanfare and official license, and you'd have another fan-made Optimus with minimal interest, imo. Everyone wants this because it's meant to be rare, not because it's actually cool.
VKittyCat2023
Never, because this is hand-made, so there are no moulds to steal.
PhantomOfTheMusical
He looks like Nemesis Prime/Black Convoy and thus Big Convoy…
