Hasbro, a leading toy and game company, and Irregular Choice, a UK-based footwear brand, have come together to release a colorful and nostalgia-filled TRANSFORMERS-inspired collection that will transport fans back to where it all began in 1984. Ahead of TRANSFORMERS’ 40th anniversary in 2024, this epic 27-piece selection of unisex shoes, bags & accessories feature fan-favorite Autobots and Decepticons –Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Starscream & Soundwave. Think light up bags & boots with removable jet wings! The limited-edition collection will be available for purchase December 1, 2023 at www.irregularchoice.com.
Today, Hasbro and Irregular Choice teased out four vibrant pieces from the new collection:
· MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE: There’s ”…More Than Meets The Eye” with these TRANSFORMERS themed ankle boots! Inspired by the scheming Decepticon Starscream, they feature a removable jet wing on the side of the boot, emblazoned with the Decepticon logo. Once converted these lightweight boots are an 80’s colour layering dream! Lace them up and join the battle!
· OPTIMUS PRIME BAG: The one and only Optimus Prime is front and centre of this bold bag! With Optimus Prime inspired colours and detailing, there’ll be no mistaking which side you’re on when you carry this handbag down the street. Poppers fasten this hinged doctors style bag with two internal pockets and contrasting lining.
· MUSIC TO MY EARS BAG: A retro Soundwave inspired TRANSFORMERS bag that can also be worn as a handbag or a clutch, and features an awesome glitter filled gel pouch on the front – along with casette tape controls. The 80’s arcade game inspired pattern includes Autobot and Decepticon logo pixelart! Undo the magnetic popper fastening to reveal the contrasting plush orange lining and a handy inside pocket.
· AUTOBOT: Heroically high-heeled boots with a hidden platform, perfect for any Autobot fan! These streamlined and fierce motorbike boots are decked out in bright red and yellow, offset with matte grey detailing. The Autobot logo elasticated back means these can easily be pulled on and are comfortable to move around in, so pop them on and let’s get going!

Inquiring minds want to know: what would regular choice gear be?

My days of wearing Irregular heals are long gone but I would have been all over these in college.

I like the decepticon bag, but I don't get why they're so high priced?
Joey Slick
Can't argue with that. There's a few normies among the extra-scented though.
Spikeytigertron
Give me these on Tarn/decepticon colors and I got some friends who’d roll out with these.
RoadCaesar
That they'd allocate to non-t-shirt, non-George denim?
Call it observational over 30 years of convention attendance…

I was actually imagining the mixed scent of cheap perfume and nicotine.
I probably could buy fashion clothing if I saw the appeal, not sure why you'd assume someone who wastes their money on expensive frivolities like TFs doesn't have any spare cash.

I don't hate them.
I used to be kinda a little obsessed with Irregular Choice for a while but lost interest when I felt they left their menswear designs a bit lacking for a while compared to womens. Irregular Choice at their best are bold and a bit garish, but I find they veer from amazing to wtf were they thinking, especially when it comes to branded designs (for example, their lightsaber heels are an amazing design, but there's a Batman design which to me just looks like random clashing shapes with a cheap looking 60s Batman logo on top of it all, yawn).
These designs are kinda in the middle somewhere to me. The footwear is better out of the products shown here I think, however, I think the designs are actually a little basic though tbh. Sure putting a wing on a shoe is wonderfully out there and it's great that it's not just Autobots getting all the love for once, but it might be a little on the nose and I'm not sure if the whole design works overall or does it just rely on the wing drawing attention? I think the autoboot has better overall cohesive design, but does ultimately boil down to my least favourite of obvious Transformers design – just slap an autobot badge on it (likewise with the bag, which I think is awful and the worst thing here – do whatever and just plonk Optimus' face on it, so unimaginative for what Irregular Choice can do).
Overall – kinda meh, but will be happy to see what else is to come from them.

All I want is a simple zip up sweater that looks like nemesis prime's chest. Is that so hard?

Oh, so many things I want to say in response to this, but I don't want to get myself into trouble, lol.

I think a lot of folks are missing that, while these are technically functional clothing items, a lot of collectors buy things like this primarily for shelf display (glances knowingly at the 70 pairs of heels shelved in our bedroom).
In the same way that you CAN zoom MP Sideswipe around the floor as a toy car, but most don’t, a lot of shoes like this wind up as objects d’art, not being worn to CostCo on a bulk Doritos run.

I dunno how those Seeker Sneakers are supposed to work, but uh, those Autoboots are made for walking. On someone's face if they're into that sort of thing.
RoadCaesar
Not surprised considering they're fashion items meant for avant garde-ish street wear. I doubt very much that their target market is the average Hasbro consumer who grumbles over a $20 toy.
Yeah, sometimes people can go overboard on the perfume/cologne. "a fashion fragrance is meant to be discovered. It should not announce your arrival from across the room."
(Yes, I know they meant chronic non-bathers, but neither the OP nor the hygiene challenged are ever gonna have the disposable income to buy fashion clothing.)

If these were free and I placed them outside as free candy they would stay outside the next day and the kids would have TP'ed & egged my house.

Wish they'd make converse all-stars in the same color of purple as the decepticon logo, with the logo itself being incorporated into the white logo on the inside ankle. But not all over the shoe so that I could wear them in most settings without most people noticing it's a shoe based on a cartoon.
Joey Slick
If I close my eyes, I can smell the type of person who would wear these boots in public outside of convention/cosplay settings.
