Courtesy of Hasbro designer Mark “Marklonus” Maher , via his Instagram account, we can share for you our first in-hand images of the new Transformers Legacy United Voyager Thundertron.
We have clear shots in robot mode showing off Thundertron’s poseability and weapons as well as beast mode images. A very interesting update of the original Thundertron mold from 2012. As usual, Mark has also shared information about the creative process of this new figure.

Aaaarrrrgggghhh me matees, ya be needin to add me Legacy United Voyager class Thundertron ta yer collection! As my 🧠 surfs the galaxies and universes of the 40 year history of Transformers, I could think of no design better suited for @bmacatron84 ‘s needs for a space pirate, or should me say Star Raider! Arrgh!
.
Big shout outs to the Hall of Fame champion Ejima san who has been intrical in the success of the Transformers brand, big E is nothing but amazing talent and a vest rocking genius. Also, shouts to @santalux75 who did the original concept art for this maniac. I still remember painting this prototype back in the Prime days and drooling over the concept art! 🤤
.
Lets get into it, pass ye a bottle of ur finest energon goodies matey, cause the different weapon load outs of his Thundersword of Cybertron will shiver ye timbers!!! Not only do you get the cool cyberpeg leg feature but you can also flex the lower jaw of the Liger mouth in both modes.
.
Crash landing at planet z did ol thunder knucks alot of good in my eyes. We got some serious possibility and just a fierce looking alt mode which will scare any cybertronian off the tidal plank. 😜
.
I did plan on adding some space barnacles but after they were sculpted they didn’t give the proper vibe, so I put my energon towards some scars and battle damage throughout the sculpt cause this star seeker has seen some serious battles. To note, this scurvy dog has been known to frequent Mac (Thew) Adam’s bar for two tree energon beverages, Ay Aye me laddies, till next we meet! 🏴☠️ ☠️
Nagatem
The old English dub zoids theme is now blaring in the back of my mind, I love this so much maybe they can make a genosaurer/breaker alt mode to fight the thundertron liger
Dinobot Snarl
They blunted the hat and shortened the coat tails, subtle changes may have robbed it of an overt pirate look.

Yeah factionless would be my ideal as well but I'd take Decepticon as he has had it on previous incarnations/figures, just really hope he doesn't have the Star Seeker insignia (or god forbid that awful illogical mercenary faction they tried so hard to push in ER and then gave up on immediately).
And I have the same sentiments for if they were to release that Go Prime deco. I wouldn't want Star Seeker insignia on it as Go Prime is supposed to be an ancient Autobot with ties to Primus.
Optimus1138
I'm planning to remove his symbol no matter what it is, I prefer him being truly factionless like in Animated or AOE.
I'd love to get Thundertron in those Go Prime colors though. I think the mold looks pretty good and I like the idea of having a pirate bot but I'm just not feeling the colors. But in a more piratey deco like that I'd be very tempted. And I could see them potentially using that color scheme since it coordinates well with Lockdown.

looking back at it now, Thunderhowl is for sure happening. The shoulders line up.

We definitely need a Legacy Airachnid (and a NAVI-ko remold), but I don't really care for most of the others, there's some characters that'd be neat but a lot of them are just kinda boring tbh. Like, we don't need yet another Optimus that turns into a red semi-truck. That said, I get the feeling that we might be seeing a Prime Ratchet and Vehicon sometime soon.
Treadshot 2.0
Yeah, color me baffled by this choice. Especially when there are so many were the main cast prime characters to update. What about breakdown? What about airachnid? Hell, can we get a Prime universe insecticon that actually looks like the prime universe ones (like how they absolutely nailed the Armada ones) so we can finally have some of those?

I still think Thunderhawl will come but I guess this is where legacy Thundertron’s concept came fromView attachment 30114328View attachment 30114330 View attachment 30114331

I know, and possible the Walmart one is that but could be extra paint. But again totally possible.
I hope all together that he doesn’t have symbols. But if he does hope it’s tiny.
Dinobot Snarl
Actually if they choose the junkion I think it would good to have the pirate logo, so you know they're not serious.
Scornstream
I fully expect Lockdown to have his normal black/green, but what I mean is I want him to look like this:
And not like this:
The whole thing with Go Prime was referring to this character:

Think my optimal Thundertron colors would be black, white and gold with a touch of red. Classic pirate colors. Hopefully they do that. Maybe replace the red with green, however, since that's the signature color of the Star Seeker logo. Kinda a missed opportunity for this version of Thundertron to not have green eyes, honestly.
Hopefully it's not a Rock they pack in with him. Think Junkions with all their facial hair suit pirates more and the rock robot vehicle thing seems really dumb. It'd be better if it was some kind of captain's chair and a ton of weapons or a Junkion pal.
If they could merge the pointier cheekbones with the more noticeable lips of the original and a nose based on the old one, I think an OG style head would be pretty good. Honestly with the presence of a nose the old head just needs some bigger lips, definition and maybe silver paint to fit in decently well with CHUG.
I'm impressed with how little was changed on this guy and it still manages to blend in. Guess it helps Thundertron looked more UT beast than all spiky like most of TFP.

One guess of mine is basically that the figure with extra paint (more gold maybe) on the figure and a Bouldercrash repaint in gold. Or it is a new deco for him.
I think he will have normal Lockdown colors. No Go inspiration for that toy.
Scornstream
Honestly, kinda hoping that's all the Leader one is (deco-wise), just more original-accurate (with those nice red eyes) with more paint details. I'm assuming it'll come with extra accessories or even an extra figure (maybe they're planning to release a Core Tornado with him if Ferak's budget doesn't allow a repainted Nightstick that is), but I really hope they don't use like the Go Prime deco or something similar like other people have suggested, I'd rather Go Prime be his own thing (also why I'm not a fan of Lockdown being part of the Star Seeker capsule, REALLY hope he doesn't have a giant Star Seeker insignia on his chest and they either give him a Decepticon one or leave him without an insignia).

Yeah, the teal paint really washes out the the beard, however I feel the sculpt work might not be defined nor sharp enough too.
If the beard had a silver wash and the sculpt work was stronger it might look a bit better. Although I feel the head might be a bit too low down and to me the beard isn't big enough either.
It would be cool if the Leader figure in the star seeker sub line, had accurate toy colours and head, for those who want a more toy accurate look. Although it might just be the standard legacy head painted to look like the original.
If he was Thundertrons brother would he be Lightingtron? Haha
TF Hot Rod
That’s what it is, now that I look at it, the teal kinda muddies the look of the sculpt.
Also would be neat if the Leader Walmart Thundetron in addition to different paint, had a toy accurate head given to it. Would be neat again for those that prefer the original head. Honestly could have the two be brothers or different characters even from that alone.
Nate98
Eh I get where you're coming from and if you like the original head more power to you but honestly I prefer the newer one. The old head is over powered by the teal, the expression looks less like a scowl but more like a pout. Also the design they're working with is a tad bit too busy IMO.
I prefer the legacy head as it looks more like a grizzled and seasoned pirate. It just needs some blue on the hat is all.
It does translate the face decent enough but again the deco doesn't help. I kinda get what they're going for but I'm kinda not a fan of that head design in general. It's a tad too busy and the beard doesn't work for me lol. Cool if people like it though.
TF Hot Rod
How I feel about Ironhide.
It would have been cool to see Star Seekers in Prime, would have been a neat addition and story direction.
Masktique
What an absolute crime that one of the best designs in Prime never got to be in the show.
Always been fascinated by Thundertron, so I’ll be glad to have the Legacy mold alongside the Prime mold, though I think I’ll hold off to see what’s up with the Star Seeker Capsule version.
TF Hot Rod
Personally I think this guy looks much better than the original, always felt the original head looks weird in execution and in look (mainly mouth area).
The image of the og toy on this threads one of the photos that I have seen that I can tell what the mouth area is going for. Always looked like a bunch of wires for a beard maybe (which was the intent of course) and no mouth. edit: think it’s the paint of the teal.
But I totally get why one would prefer the originals.
