Coming to us via artist Eddy Del Rio Instagram account, we have images of some new Transformers Rise Of The Beasts Predacons Concept Art.
These are very early ideas and proposals for some Predacons. Read on for Eddy Del Rio comments:
“Transformers Rise of the Beast for a very brief second may of had some Predacons in the works. Yes, for a very brief moment the thought was to have some Predacons in the movie. I spent a day doing very very rough sketches. What you see here is a small amount of what I did that day.”
See the images of Waspinator, Spittor (2 designs), and Ramhorn after the break and then sound off on the 2005 Boards!

I just checked the literature and for Tyrannosaurus Rex specifically we have a small patch on the tail, the whole foot pads, sparse parts of the face, and tiny bits around various areas on the legs. Also I honestly didn’t see that you said it was the general public’s thoughts so I apologize for that.
Other tyrannosaurs we have plenty of skin impressions for, some with feather traces too, but that’s not necessarily important right now
Scornstream
We have much more than just that for Tyrannosaurs. IIRC about the only parts of skin impressions we don't have is the back of the neck and one other place I forget.
Also, Dilophosaurus is the exception. If you read my message you know that I said "Most don't. Of the ones that people typically think of when they hear the word theropod, anyway." Other than Dilophosaurus, the only animals that really fit that bill are Dromaeosaurids (or the singular entity known to most people as the Raptor), which I think everyone has accepted by now had extensive feathering, though we had evidence for it decades ago. But the other first thought animals were more than likely mostly if not completely scaly (Allosaurus and other carnosaurs, Ceratosaurians like Carnotaurus and Ceratosaurus, and of course the famous derived Tyrannosaurs such as the big T itself, Tarbosaurus, Albertosaurus, Gorgosaurus, etc.)
Of course, there are plenty of theropods that were covered in feathers/proto-feathers and the likes, but they're not what people typically think of when they think "theropod".
To bring the discussion back to Transformers. With the exception of the highly JP-inspired Dinobot mold, all of the Beast Wars dino molds are accurate (in the sense of what they depict when it comes to feathering vs scales). The Megatron, Hardhead, Bazooka, Guiledart/Killer Punch, Saberback, and Magmatron's Giganotosaurus component molds are all scaly, as they should be according to what we currently know. While Archadis is covered in feathers.

Sure the skin impressions that we have don’t show much, but they are also tiny patches from the legs and tail (where we wouldn’t expect feathers from such a derived tyrannosaurid), and in the wrong kind of rock to preserve feather traces well. Also to mention your earlier message, there’s increasingly more evidence that early theropods may have had filaments or feathers of some kind (ie Dilophosaurus resting trace), however without the right fossils we will never know.

I'm not sure about the infants, but I do know that we have a lot of skin impressions from most of the different parts of the body of adult Tyrannosaurs. These impressions show that it was either fully or >95% scaly.
That said, they didn't really fit the typical "creepy" look associated with the 90s depictions of them. Megatron would have looked less like some sort of evil flightless dragon and more like a big hairless reptilian bear.
World Turtle
True and his clone was doing the undead skeleton look so he wouldn’t have had them anyways
The status of the T-Rex having feathers or not was an issue scientists kept going back and fourth on. I think now it’s “they had them as babies, but lose them into adulthood”.

That first Spittor design is absolutely awesome, as are Ramhorn and Waspinator. Would have really liked to have seen these designs fully realized.
Most didn't. Of the ones that people typically think of when they hear the word theropod, anyway (though Dinobot's animal did, but he was a Maximal in the toyline anyway).
MrNiceGuy
Killer. Sadly, you just know if these had ended up in the movie, they would've all been gray/brown
Shuppetwithagun
Cheetors brownish actually
DrewGT
Like all of the RotB Maximal designs, they might actually be kinda cool if they weren\'t all gray.

Would have been incredible to see these guys in the movie. Sad the Predacons weren\'t included. Hopefully the sequel will include them.
mx-01 archon
Technically, we already have. Spittor's only onscreen appearance was in the Animated Season 3 premiere, Transwarped, which debuted as a TV movie.
Choomba
WE COULDA HAD SPITTOR IN A MOVIE?! I'll have to go my grave knowing this never happened and that I'll never get to see it
World Turtle
Honestly? They could have used both. The tall/lean one for a Frog and the fat/squat one for a Toad. Heck we already have a second Predacon frog for this: Slapper.
And since Slapper is reddish make him the fat one and make him a Fire-Bellied Toad. A giant techno-organic/bio-mechanical toad that breathes fire.
Necromaster
All of these look dope as hell, but especially the bulkier, squatter Spittor. The fact that he was considered for this at all is nothing short of miraculous.
f-primusunicron
all of them look amazing
World Turtle
I wonder for the BW1 guys how many groups could you organize them into based on biomes or habitats? Obviously still split between factions.
Like we have a number of animals from the African Savannah for example.
Ocean is obviously Depth Charge, Cybershark, Claw Jaw, and if we're being generous Torca and Airhammer.
Shuppetwithagun
Very well put together list. If you included BW2 and Neo that’s when tons of wacky shit happens. Such as a predacon molluscan, insect and crustacean maximals, and a predacon synapsid. Point is Japan didn’t care about the rules
@l3x
Loving that “003” Spittor with the top heavy proportions. Would probably be the simplest transformation in the entire movieverse too.
World Turtle
Okay, the following is half-assed at best and I mainly counted the Hasbro side of things. And I think I left off a few exclusives.
Mammals
Primates: Optimus Primal, B’Boom, Optimus Minor,
Ungulates
Rhinox
Razorbeast
Bonecrusher
Ramulus
Feliformia (Carnivora)
Cats: Prowl (Lion), Cheetor, Tigatron, Shadow Panther (Predacon, but again this fact is pointed out in his bio, he's a spy),
Hyenas: Jawbreaker
Caniformia (Carnivora)
Canines: Wolfang, K-9,
Bears: Polar Claw, Grizzly-1,
Skunks: Stinkbomb
Rodentia:
Rats: Rattrap, Packrat,
Squirrels: Nightglider
Bats:Sonar, Onyx Primal (they've gone back and fourth on which faction he is apart of, but again he's an assassin. so bad guy with good guy beast mode is part of the job), Convobat,
Xenarthas (?)
Armadillos: Armordillo, (special mention to Psycho-Orb from Robotmasters for being one of the few mammal Predacons who weren't black repaints)
Elephant: Ironhide
Bantor (Feliformia and Primates)
Torca (Cetacea and Elephants)
Noctorro (Bats and Ungulates)
Insects
Waspinator, Buzz Saw,
Inferno, Antagony,
Vice Grip, Powerpinch,
Insecticon, Scarem, Drill Bit, Ram Horn

Crabs: Rampage, Shokaract, Razorclaw
Lobster: Sea Clamp
Retrax
Dinosaurs
Megatron
Dinobot
Fish
Cybershark
Depth Charge (special mention to the McDonalds Manta Ray who was a Predacon, but given when they came out I suspect that hadn't quite settled on what side ocean life would be on. Given Injector, this might be a legitimate "shared" category between factions)
Amphibians
Spittor
Mollusca
Claw Jaw
Marsupials
Snarl,
Silverbolt, Windrazor (Mammal/Bird)
Quickstrike (Arachnid/Reptile)
Injector (Fish/Insect)
