Our team at San Diego Comic Con 2023 have just treated us with some images of the recently revealed Transformers Studio Series 86 Commander Class Ultra Magnus samples which were shown at Hasbro Transformers panel a few minutes ago.
Not much left to say, so check all the images after the break and then sound off your impressions on the Studio Series Ultra Magnus on the 2005 Boards!
Sunbow Prime
of course they make it match in the type of light it's least likely to be in

Fun with 2 gun

Could you share some pics, please?
I actually had a bad feeling about this. Just wondering when the comments about yellowing would start to appear.

UV light be like that.
Y'know how we love to rag on Earthrise Sunstreaker, and his patchwork arrangement of like, three shades of yellow? Well, in natural sunlight, all those different shades actually match pretty closely. Home lighting conditions, where most of us will actually see him? Yeah, no bueno.
Throway
Mines as yellow in the same spots as yours.
octobotimus
Is it A-symmetrical/random in where it appears or is it on the same parts for both sides of the figure? Because that might just be a different type of plastic.
Napalm
I flagged this a few pages back with pics. As more get into hand, the likelihood is this will prove to be poorly mismatched plastics but time will tell and I currently remain sceptical.
@Paneltron's image earlier tonight is more concerning as that looks like very localised discolouration, the likes of which we last saw on Motormaster's trailer.

Pull the trigger….
Poe Ghostal
I love this figure but whew, transforming him was a bear. So many tabs! I had to clean up quite a bit of crazing with the ol' heat gun.
The 14th prime
Is anyone else experiencing yellowing on theirs, mine arrived from GameStop and quite a few areas of it have a uncomforting shade of yellow on the White…

There are other ways to pay less. Credit through trade at a local comic store. Gift cards I might earn or be given. Etc. It's how I ended up with a Legacy Cybertron Metroplex. I wasn't planning to buy him but I had enough leftover store credit at a local comic shop to swing one for free. Whenever I have store credit, I generally aim high on stuff that costs more than I can generally afford on impulse (voyagers and less). So, if my local store gets in a Magnus, I may cash out on the $60 credit I have set aside for a rainy day. That'll only make him about $35 after taxes.

Hmm yes, that's another factor – i'm a bit warmer on Kingdom Magnus than most seem to be, while recognising his flaws, and still think his bot mode looks great.
I'm not expecting this SS86 version to reach the sales though, or i might be happy to play the waiting game too.
Motormaster took ages to come down in price, although there were sales on Rodimus (i bagged him for 50 quid in the end).
On the other hand, Jetfire and Sky Lynx are still elusive and sought-after and rightly so, especially in the case of the latter. I keep my Sky Lynx next to my desk and he improves my mood every time i see his gloating, grinning, 'I am definitely not a Dinobot' face. I've come to think of him as a pet.

I was messing around with my Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus last night. Aside from working in some ankle tilts, he's not all that much inferior to SS86 aside from being more IDW in design than G1…and they worked in a Minicon to boot. So, yeah, the price tag is my biggest hang up, followed by the lack of an inner robot that would have made it closer to the $90 value in my mind (which would solve my initial hang up). Again, if the price is right, I'll probably pick one up. But if I never get one, that's okay too.

Something's holding me back from buying this lad.
Although i'm normally a toy over toon collector, of course i love the movie and have enjoyed many SS86 figures.
Do i think he's too big? Well, he should be. Too plain? Toyhax will sort that out. Too pricey? He's about what i expected and i felt the other commanders – even Rodimus – were decent value. Is it the lack of white cab-bot? It shouldn't be, we've had long enough to get our heads round it, and it makes sense.
No idea really. As you were.

View attachment 30109844 My cell phone camera doesn't take good pictures, but my ultramagnus has a stress mark on the back of his neck, it's made of translucent plastic, I'm afraid for his head, I think he could lose his head.
Obnimaz
I haven't noticed any chipping. But the blue inner leg paint is spattered all over his red legs, and the blue plastic is very stress-mark prone.
B-Fox
Got to say, my favorite detail of Magnus is that the trailer when transformed looks like the G1 figure so much from a distance it looks like it'd transform the exact same way.
Oniconvoy
That sucks. No chipping on my copy.
Mojom
Am I really the only SSUM owner to have paint chipping issues? Not to rain on everyone's parade but it's frustrating as hell to see everyone else having zero issues while mine has more paint flaking off since this picture being taken.
