Third Party company Newage Toys have updated their Weibo account with images of the color prototype of their H56 Rhedosaurus (Legends Scale G1 Sludge).
This is a very nice cartoon-accurate rendition of the powerful G1 Dinobot. Both modes look pretty close to the cartoon proportions and design. He comes with a pair of extra hands, blaster, “poping eyes” (for dino mode), and a pair of leg covers for robot mode. To top it all, Newage have also revealed the first variant: H56T Rhedosaurus, in clear plastic.
See the new image after th jump and then sound off on the 2005 Boards!

Afaik, each lucky draw figure has 50 copies produced. Newage will giveaway 10 copies through a lucky draw game, pick randomly from people who share NA's post and tag 3 people (on Weibo). I think everyone can create a Weibo account to enter the game.
40 remaining copies will be for sale, at a pretty high price, 3 to 4 times of the regular toon prices. There are a couple of Taobao stores sell them.

I believe there’s a giveaway on Newages Weibo, open to Eastern fans. Afaik we’re SOL unless we either have a friend over there or feel like paying ebay prices.

How does the lucky draw actually work? I've seen some member here post his collection of lucky draw bots, but how does it actually work?

New lucky draw. There will be a lucky draw blue Grimlock (and other Dinobots) as well but Mr Cheetos recalled the pic so no pic for him sadly

Comic version Sludge arrived today. I've gotta say I'm not feeling him as anything other than an upgrade set for Comic Grimlock. Why on Earth they switched the colour palette so that the wings are silver-blue instead of the body is just baffling, as it makes him look mismatched with his boss. I can see the eyes have a subtle difference to the face, but compared to the others he still looks dead-eyed. I'm not overly thrilled about changing the style of the sword either.
So yeah, he's probably going to stay in Dino mode. I like Grimlock enough on his own to keep all the cool extras that come with Sludge, like the articulated wrists on the open hands and the leg panels, but apart from Swoop I'm done with the comic versions. Shame, as they had the potential to be the best set. As it is, for me that'll be the EX squad

I still need to get around to taking photos of them together in dino mode, but for now…

Hi all. I’m kinda digging the comic deco on these guys. I already have the EX version and was gonna stop with that but now I’m not sure. Can someone with the EX and comic version post some pics of them together please, I would like to see the differences.

If you punch in NewAge Rhedosaurus/Sludge you'll get plenty of hits.
Fairly sure everyone would recommend this guy.

Are there any good video reviews out there for this guy? Clear transformation guide? I'm thinking of getting him. Thanks!

Another two down, two more to go (I don't do clear except in certain cases):

Since toon came with only weapon, ex with two and g2 with 3, did some shuffling around so everyone has something in both hands:

G2 keeps his sword and gun, rocket launcher goes to EX, and EX's sword goes to toon.
But one more for the leg covers club:

Well he did arrive. I mentioned to a friend that you could really get NA Sludge into some fun Jojo-esque poses, so with the garish colors on him, that’s what I tried to go with.

I think NA Dinobots in bot mode are good size, but yeah they should be bigger like dino mode. When it comes to MS Skyfire, he is not small at all. In my collection I have mostly from the NA figures, and my MS Skyfire is like a giant for them like in toon. Anyway I also want to see MS dino ver, cuz I'm interested in how they will do sizes bot and dino mode.

After a bit playing with him, I'd have to say Comic Sludge is nearly perfect. My only "complaint" I could lob is that I expected his chest to be the normal purple from the pictures, and got a metallic finish. Not a real complaint really.

Mine might be as well. I’m not sure because the 4PX tracking is terrible on the domestic side. Quite often it lists the destination as its location when it’s still working through the domestic carrier to the destination post office.
So right now it seems to indicate that it’s at my local PO, but checking Informed Delivery doesn’t show any packages that are likely to be it.

I think my SG Sludge should be out for delivery tomorrow, since it reached my post office today.

Not that it matters that much to me but I find it curious that according to the sunbow scale that I linked to in my earlier post in this thread, NA Grimlock in bot mode is actually too big. Like way, way too big. According to the chart he and all the other dinos except Swoop should be only a little taller than Optimus but my NA Grimlock and Sludge tower over both my NA Magnus core bot and my MS Optimus by a lot. But then in dino mode Grimlock should become much bigger and way taller than Optimus but that's not the case. So if you want to be accurate to the Sunbow chart then NA Grimlock size wise is backwards and way too big in bot mode but way too small in dino.
Also interesting is while NA Skyfire is huge and the carbots super tiny, according to the chart it seems like NA actually nailed it or were pretty close. Maybe the carbots could just be a wee bit taller scale wise. Anyway all this doesn't bug me at all but I know for some people this scale to the cartoon is super important.
It'll be interesting to see what Magic Square will do with the dinobots. I just got started collecting legends just a couple months ago but from what I understand MS is the 3p that's supposed to be the one that's more focused on being super accurate to the cartoon. The bots will need to be much smaller than NA's but the dino modes need to be much bigger. But then again their carbots are way, way too big per the scale chart and Skyfire too small so who knows and they might just do their own thing with scaling.

I'll never feel particularly beholden to G1. I recognize it as an important part of my childhood but from any sort of modern look it's a dumpster fire of off-model animation, characterization, origin stories, etc. So I'll always prefer what feels right to me aesthetically, what they felt like to me as a kid, what I prefer as an adult, etc. And in that regard Grimlock is a big boy, sure. Sludge being bigger makes perfect sense to me though. Brontosaurus vs. T-Rex seems obvious. Him being the big beefy tanky lad of the group just seems obvious.
I got into NewAge's stuff with G2 Grimlock due to nostalgia reasons. Now I have the toy decos of Grimlock and Sludge plus that G2 Grimlock. Got G2 Sludge mostly for the leg fillers for G2 Grimlock and while it's nice I'm probably going to just sell it off sans the leg fillers for Grimlock and the missile launcher gun for G1 Toy Sludge. Just no attachment to that version and it does take up a fair bit of room on my desk. Probably enough for the other 3 dinobots that are coming combined even.
Meanwhile my dumb ass should have learned a lesson from getting into Iron Factory's stuff. I've ended up with G1/G2 Grimlock, G1/G2 Sludge, Soundwave and Soundblaster, Skyfire-Pretending-To-Be-Jetfire, the Seeker trio, the Conehead trio, SG Starscream, and the purple seeker with Prime, Megatron, Shockwave, and IDW Cyclonus on the way. Oops.

I have my own opinions on how Sludge, Grimlock, and other TFs are best portrayed, but I never claim they are the most accurate, most representative, or most legitimate characterizations. I don’t even think such things exist. The best versions of these characters are the ones that each of us hold on our minds, and they may have never made an appearance in media or plastic.
But yeah, my ideal (not accurate, not correct, not “should-be”) version of Sludge is definitely the big guy of the team, by a good margin. He would also be the toughest. Grimlock would be the smartest, quickest, and deadliest, but not the biggest, tallest, or bulkiest.
blurr95
My whole thing is, why in the world should I care what anyone else thinks. I collect what I like, and what I think looks good.
Zebulon
Like. If that's how they want it to be s'cool and all. It does get a bit weird then they act as if that's how the toys, shows, whatever were though. Kind of makes sense Sludge would be the big boy of the group though, even if Grimlock is the leader.
