Via their Facebook page, third party company DNA Design have unveiled a new add-on we think will interest many Animated fans – their new DK-42 upgrade kit, which is samurai armor for Legacy Evolution Deluxe Animated Prowl!
As shown here this kit comes with everything you’d expect, forming the armor in robot mode and a sidecar in motorcycle mode. It also comes with a seismic staff accessory which wasn’t included in the original toyline.
Check out the pics and share your thoughts in the discussion thread!

Reminds me a little bit of G1 Vroom with the sidecar being integrated into the design!

I thought I had this preordered, but I guess not. Just bought at Show.Z, hope it's one of their good kits

Looks like Show Z just got them/about to get them in-stock. I just paid the balance on my pre-order, guess I should have it in-hand in about maybe 2-4 weeks to determine if it is a win or fail, lol.

I'd say it's very likely. I'd give it a roughly 75% chance if I had to guess
So don't buy this unless you actually like the way it looks, because there's a fair chance there will be more options down the line

I was gonna skip Legacy Prowl but this made me get it. Now I have him in hand and I'm eager to get this. Samurai Prowl is hands down my fave Animated toy…hence why I still have mine somewhere!
Pikachu_King
True, I swapped mine from the original release into my Samurai prowl back in the day so I totally forgot they did that too.
Prowl83
Don't forget about the nerfed throwing stars in the legs.
Pikachu_King
they did get rid of the traffic light accessory, and reduced the amount of colored plastic (no clear red) and paint applications.

The thing that astonished me then – and outright baffles me in retrospect – about the original Animated Deluxe-class Samurai Prowl is Hasbro included the armour/sidecar with a slight redeco of Deluxe-class Prowl for the exact same price as the wave-one version.
Including an extra half a figure worth of accessories didn't bump Samurai Prowl up from Deluxe to Voyager-class, it was just better value for the same price.

The (only?) highlight for Legacy TFA Prowl is its lower body articulations. It can pull off all kinds of serious acrobatic/martial art poses and look super natural about it. This DNA kit doesn't look like it'll hamper the lower body articulations too much, but the weight & proportion of it all probably will not make the figure easy to balance, taking away the figure's main advantage over the OG.
So if I'm desperate for a TFA Samurai Prowl on my shelf, I'd just get the original.

The armor does look a touch big on Prowl, but we also have to remember what the original looked like:
The helmet was just as egrigous if not more so on the original. The shoulder pads are a bit overly large, though, I will agree there.

I knew I was right to wait on Legacy Prowl. I need that samurai armor!
Notomus
I'll consider getting it, though not sure it'll be worth the DNA price tag…
Chadderbug
Feels like this is meant for a way bigger than Prowl here. The armor looks way too big.
SlickPrime
If it weren't for DNA's track record for heads, I'd say just make a new head sculpt that would complement a smaller helmet. I'd pay a $10 upcharge for that.

When I saw the silhouette revealed, I thought this was going to be an instant preorder for me, but I’m really disappointed with the full images. Everything looks two sizes too big. The helmet is what everyone else is pointing out, but honestly the armor itself is what looks way too big to me.
The shoulder pieces are the same height as the upper torso, and the wheel is so big that it looks to hinder the arm movement even in their official pictures. Even in sidecar mode, this thing just looks completely out of place next to the base figure.
Speaking of the wheel armor, why don’t we have two? He has two in the show, and it isn’t hard to split it in half to peg onto each arm. Not to mention we yet again are dealing with the wheel’s blade being forced to stick out at all times. It seems like they only looked at the original toy for this instead of the show. I understand this is Legacy so it’s not going to be a 1:1 recreation of the show, but man they could’ve at least used it for a base like Hasbro and Takara did before CHUGifying it.

This just doesn’t do it for me. I’m happy for all the people who are still excited for it, but as someone who owned the original Samurai Prowl and who loves the new take on Prowl in Legacy, this just falls short. It’s like they copied the original toy armor but made it worse.

The goal isn’t to improve an older figure, it’s to make certain versions of characters from underrepresented parts of the franchise compatible with the rest of modern CHUG. I personally love what HasTak are doing with Animated, since I’ve always loved the base designs but I know a lot of people didn’t care for the art style. This route allows CHUG collectors to buy Animated without feeling like it won’t fit into their collection. I don’t think Prowl was the right figure to start off with, but I imagine people will grow to appreciate the strategy once more CHUG-compatible Animated designs like Optimus and Megatron come out.

I don't usually do this, But…
that's just your bias showing, you may not think that Prowl deserves to be in this lineup, but I assure you there are those who do.
Mercurius
it exists in part because people can't afford to buy the old one, and Hasbro could make more money releasing a new one. I picked him up as I wasn't in the TF game during Animated, but I eventually decided to swap out his head and make it a custom fembot cop instead. The body shape is curvy enough, so I just 3d printed a Slipstream head to fit. Don't need samurai gear with such a mod, so I'm good without this kit, but good for those who wanted it.

None of the non-G1 Legacy figures, except maybe Armada Optimus, are really improvements imo. They're trying too hard to mesh the aesthetics of the source material with G1. The Armada figures have been okay, but the Prime and Animated ones have barely captured the spirit of the characters. Skyquake showed some promise, but still had too much G1 going on. Armada Hot Shot and Starscream are better at representing the character, but still aren't great updates.
