With very special thanks to Den Of Geek, we have with us an interview with director Steven Caple Jr. who talks about the challenges he faced during the filming of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and what to expect from future installments.
“If we show Machu Pichu, we’re going to Machu Picchu and shooting at Machu Picchu. I wanted to speak Quechua; I wanted to dive into the culture.
We could provide jobs and have people come out and create their floats and act as if we were actually doing the festival during a really tough time for the country, and that was tremendous to me.
The first week we were on set, I thought I and my assistant director could speak into these big megaphones pretending to be Optimus Prime or Cheetor, and the cast could bounce off that, but we aren’t actors.
Even though the actors were amazing, I felt we needed to bring another layer of realism to it, so on our third or fourth day, we found it in our budget to cast actors and put earpieces in our actors’ ears, and I’d have five or six voice actors off-camera. The actors would hear that while acting opposite a tennis ball on a stick, and it made a world of difference. I tried to cast people locally who could be similar to, say, Michelle Yeoh [who voices Airazor in the film] and have her regal elegance, which created a whole different experience.”
Some may find the next part to be a minor spoiler.
“I introduced Unicron. I was dying for Unicron to show up in a live-action movie, and to be honest, I’ll put it out there, I want him to be across the next two or three films, a really huge major villain.
I feel like we spent a lot of time on Earth, and it’d be interesting to see what else is out there. There are different Transformers and different planets, and we just need the right vehicle and the right team to really do it. I feel like this was the foundation of that, of something really special.”

No you decided to be judgemental and assumed the worst.
omegafix
thats the way i took it too

Oh ho ho! Bro…
I didn't assume anything. I made a presumption based on the statement initially provided. You assumed that I was supposed to be able to discern all the other extenuating circumstances. Taken at face value, you made it sound like you took your wife to the hospital once she went into labor, and skipped out to watch a movie.
Shepard Prime
Well let's see. My wife was in the hospital for a week for other shit that's frankly none of your business outside of the aforementioned pregnacy. I was there for her night and day, 24-7, pretty much the opposite of abandoning her. She told me she was going to shut her eyes for a couple of hours and I chose to use that time to watch a movie of a franchise I've been a fan of for decades at that point.
So
is the simpler, non-drama filled version that I chose to go with because who wants to hear all that?
Next time when you want to ASSume? Don't. Hope this reaches you on your high horse. At that altitude, it might take a couple of days.
omegafix
Wow, seriously wow
Megastar
I mean it isn't unusual for directors or actors to disagree with executives and producers.
We just have to take a wait and see approach and let the movie speak for itself.
Chris Bot
Bro did you just admit to abandoning your pregnant wife who was in labor to go see a silly robot toy movie?
Bro…
RazorX3000
Wow what a crazy series of events!! Good think your risk paid off
Shepard Prime
You're making me feel old. I was 32 when 07 dropped. My wife was in the hospital in labor with my first born…
…snuck out to the theater down the street and chanced she wouldn't have the baby during the movie. 7-06-07…I made it.

All you saying "grew up with" the Bayverse makes me feel old. I was 23 when TF07 came out. Lol.

This continued dogpiling on Lorenzo because of what he does or doesn't say about "Bayverse" is silly.
Movie studios don't give a lick about "continuity" the same way we do. They don't care whether the fans can find nitpicks and faults in the timelines, or if what X said in a movie contradicts what Y says in another movie.
They care about the general audience experience, and so far, there's been zero moves to wholly divorce the movies from what Michael Bay established. That would require a completely new aesthetic, possibly even going as far as not even having Bumblebee or Optimus Prime in it, for random schmoes off the street to go "oh, wait, this is really different!"
We're talking Adam West vs. Michael Keaton-levels of aesthetic departure. Or to a lesser degree, Schumacher vs. Nolan. That's what it took for moviegoers to take Batman seriously again.
Shepard Prime
He's a producer. He's not so much hired as it is stuck with him.
Shepard Prime
I'd have to add G1 Op and the Marvel comics Op to this but yes, exactly. Wholeheartedly

The thing that sticks out most to me is this:
To have the director of the movie do an interview with Alfonso, tell them it’s a reboot, and then have Alfonso (who interviewed the literal director) publicly shade Lorenzo on Twitter for being wrong, a producer of the film, is genuinely wild.
Reality is stranger than fiction. And with the #I’mTeamCaple, I feel like there’s definite disagreements happening between Caple and Lorenzo behind the scenes…
RazorX3000
It’s becoming more and more obvious that Lorenzo is literally the only individual that still thinks of these new films as a prequel. Everyone else has used the term “reboot”.

Incredibly bizarre things are occurring. I’m not sure what exactly is happening behind the scenes at Paramount but I’m definitely getting a vibe that there’s division about whether or not to reboot the Bay timeline.
Alfonso Nation, a Transformers YouTuber who has conducted interviews with David Sobolov and Peter Cullen, has recorded an interview with Steven Caple Jr. that releases tonight. For days on Twitter, Alfonso has dropped hints about things Caple reveals in the interview and the REBOOT VS PREQUEL situation is discussed.
However, Alfonso tweeted this a few hours ago:

It appears Caple told Alfonso that this is a rebooted timeline and that’s what he wants to do. However, it’s obvious Lorenzo disagrees with this. And the events at the Singapore press conference were incredibly awkward and strange. I think there possibly may be disagreements happening between Lorenzo and Caple behind the scenes.
Full interview will be here in a few hours.
