Courtesy of 2005 Boards member Negronicus for sharing in our boards our first proper in-hand images of the new Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts Mainline Voyager Optimus Primal.
Revealed some days ago and found only in Mexico so far, this is a completely new Voyager mold of the Maximal leader. We have clear shots at the robot mode holding his swords and our first clear shots at the gorilla mode. Robot mode has got 14 articulation points.
See the images after the jump and then sound off your impressions on the 2005 Boards!

I actually like this bot as a Deluxe, or as a Voyager and still wondering how is Hasbro justifying the SS version is also a “Voyager”.
Thundershot
After getting mainline Rhinox, I decided I really liked him and wanted the other “mainline” figures. What a frickin’ chore! I managed to find Optimus Prime yesterday behind a sea of Rhinoxes, but still no Primal. I hope he shoes up again… These mainline figures aren’t over complicated puzzles like a lot of Studio Series ones. (I hate Battletrap and I sent back Scourge).

It's pretty wild to me that the main / core toyline for this movie is a Walmart exclusive, and incredibly poorly distributed to boot. Like, isn't the whole point of this movie to be a 2 hour toy commercial? You'd think they'd want their best products everywhere so people rush out to buy them after seeing the movie. Instead I've seen basically nothing about those cheap flex changers, the weaponizer two packs, and the smash changers, and only at a few places new me. I'm sure Hasbro makes a good amount from those gimmicky toys but it seems like a weird oversight to leave out just bread and butter transformers.

Core Voyager Optimus Primal may end up being the "Cosmos" of this year.

The confusion arises because the movie was delayed. The RotB toy line was to be released along with the movie when it originally was supposed to come out and would include all the gimmicky kids toys as well as somewhat simpler deluxes and voyagers (like the cartoon lines like Earthspark have cheaper deluxes alongside the gimmickier stuff). Those are what are being called mainline.
Higher end, more accurate Studio Series toys would have been released later.
But because the movie was delayed it's all coming out together at once.

Man I’m hoping this guy gets a restock, these were a blink and you miss it retail presence. Especially with Primal being shortpacked in wave 1 and then skipped in wave 2? Have these been confirmed as a Walmart exclusive in the US? Or did every other retailer just pass on them?

It's simple : like (almost) every other Transformers movie and original show (animated, prime, RID, etc.), there is a dedicated line that comes out around that show or movie. Like ROTF or DOTM for example. Studio Series has figures of ROTB like it has every other movie, but it's not a line dedicated exclusively on ROTB.
Legacy is the just the last of Generations subline/rename, nothing to do with the ROTB specific line. Also, @ziltama is correct, there is no actual name to this line, like there wasn't for any other movie, and "Core Boy" is the codename used for retail a name which seems pretty self explanatory if you don't take into account the fact that there is a "core" class in Transformers.

Dude..I Love you..your smart as all hell..Your prolly 1000% correct, but back up and read what you typed and tell me how I can not be confusded..ed..d
EDIT..As I read your post I hear it in Spock's voice..

The non-SS ROTB toys are just branded Rise of the Beasts but people just like saying 'mainline' to differentiate from SS. The only 'official' name we have for the non-SS ROTB Deluxes and Voyagers is 'Core Boy', which is what's on the cases. That's likely a placeholder name as Core Boy is nowhere on the figure boxes themselves.
Some of the core figures look like retools, but they're not. They're all new molds, including Primal, who has all new parts and altered transformation scheme.

Yes. Those three basic lines. Legacy still has nothing to do with the live action stuff.
Snake_eyes1975
OK, So is the "mainline" have anything to do with the "legacy" line? So does that mean we have 3 lines going right now?

It's not complicated. There's a "mainline" line (only rotb-related stuff), and studio series releases. Imagine if when dark of the moon released, we got that line, PLUS studio series stuff of those characters around the same time.
They weren't supposed to be on top of each other and releasing at the same time, but since the movie was delayed a year we're getting them both at once. Most of the characters will be getting at least one release in each line.

Hasbro cannibalizes itself often, such as having the Beast Wars re-issues in the market at the same time as their Kingdom figures. The Core Voyagers had a release date of April 10th 2023 per the date on their cases. AFAIK for the US, still the only way to get is at brick & mortar Walmart. They've been readily available for online ordering and in-store in Asia. One can order this Primal figure currently off Aliexpress for about a $20 premium (including shipping costs).
Shame this is actually a decent figure, even at the full Voyager price.

As a collector that's been doing this for years..I like to think I'm pretty on top of the releases and news of TFstuff..I have to admit..I have never been so confused about which is which..what is what..
Some characters are getting "mainline" releases (does that mean "Legacy/Evo"?) AND getting a studio release..some are only "mainline"? Some are studio?
I just don't get it. I haven't seen some of the new voyagers that people are finding in stores, even online for preorder or anything..this is the most confused I've been in all of TF collecting.

Is the wave 2 case really just 2 Rhinox and 1 Optimus Prime? That makes finding Core Optimus Primal even more difficult.

Sorry for double posting, but I finally did a full repaint on this figure! It ended up being tougher than I thought because OF COURSE when I was 90% done my gunmetal spray paint started to run out. I had to improvise to finish, which took longer but ended up being fine in the end.

Gave primal his green eyes! It was difficult in robot mode. I had to put paint on the end of a toothpick, and clean up the edges. Still could be better but from a distance it looks great.

I also shaved even more material from the back of his head. I highly recommend everyone do this. The head can now move side to side freely, and it makes posing him so much more fun. Unless you're staring at the bottom of the back of the head you'd never notice the difference, too!

April 10th 2023 is what it says on the Core Voyager case. The more recent cases have dates stamped on them to warn the store not to open until that date.
Peaceful Soldier
Just so we are clear, the official release date for this thing is June right?
That\'s what I think, cuz it says that on multiple sites and it\'s starting to trickle out in some places in the world. I haven\'t seen it anywhere yet. Nothing to worry about considering the release date is June right?
