Thanks to 2005 Boards member Banshee we can share for you our very first in-hand images of the new Transformers Generations VNR Optimus Prime for your viewing pleasure.
This figure is a redeco of the previous Holiday Optimus Prime in his more traditional G1 color scheme. This new toy is expected to be a new Fan Exclusive item which will probably be revealed in the upcoming Hasbro Transformers fanstream this April 4th.
See the new images in both robot and alt mode as well as comparison shots next to other modern Optimus Prime molds and share your impressions on the 2005 Boards!

Ah, ok. Sadge . Alright, I thought the back ear-tenna looked darker and slightly shiny compared to the front ones. Thanks for letting me know.
if they reuse this guy’s head for 86 prime (which they most likely will) that’s probably something they’ll fix by just making them in the same sprue
Captain Shadowpants
As someone that owns a copy of him I can confirm that yes, his head unfortunately is painted in the back, the normal color of the part is light gray by the looks of it. It's thankfully much more durable than the horrible paint on the back of Earthrise Optimus' head, but still painted nonetheless. The paint is a slightly darker blue, as well, barely perceptible though still something to note.

Can anyone tell me if any part of the head is a different plastic color painted blue? The back of the head looks like it might be, but i haven’t been able to find a photo that gives me a good enough view to really tell, and I don’t own the figure (yet)

Decided to cop some 3d printed upgrades kits meant for leo prime and data clerk orion pax for vnr prime.

About the mold. After fiddling with him a bit, it does have one issue depending on how you pose him. Dynamic poses not so much a problem but given how the cab is the back of his shins, you'd think Prime was stable? He isn't stable when posing standing up straight. He tends to fall flat on his face with just a little jostling
This is due to the design flaw (?) or cost cutting where his feet doesn't spread his center of gravity. The fold up mechanism makes it such that the front toes are too short(don't extend enough forward) to stabilize the weight. This could have been addressed if an additional hinge that folds up to the front toes to extend forward was added. But what we got is a static one piece that stops short after the feet are folded out.

I like that my eyes are drawn instantly to the stacked SHF boxes behind Prime and wondering what they are.

When a trucking company is ordering new trucks that cost over $100000 each, they can usually tell the manufacturer how they want the exhaust routed. I think it's a factory option too. After all, Volvo signed off on the figure.
Movie Convoy
What's making the trailer look too big is actually the smokestack that most Volvo VNR trucks don't have. The trucks tend to have an exhaust system similar to normal cars.

Just received mine from BBTS. Pics later but if I got any praises, I'll give just some minute wished could have been improved on.
1. Extra paint apps on the windshield wipers
2. Molded or painted red the inner shoulders and bottom forearms
3. Articulation in the fists like the Siege/Earthrise mold
4. Getting the knees to properly align
5. Painted the mid torso with the aluminum silver stripe on his mid torso and the toes with the yellow/red and aluminum silver
Praise:
1.Everything!
2.Seriously, great head sculpt and colors
3.Truck is unique with lots of minor paint details like the roof lights and the body finish
4.Kudos to the design team for going to a new transform scheme over the "Laser Prime" extended nose standard
5. Improved the trailer paint apps ( sucks that it still lacks Roller so go look for the Centurion set guys) though the scale still sucks.
PSA:
Caution for those attempting to use the Centurion Drone Ion blaster and Energon Ax accessories, the peg handles are NOT compatible owing to their wider diameter and none poseable fist of the mold.

My son really likes the figure. I'm OK with him, but not enough to have one in my personal collection. I wish they'd spent a tiny bit of time to engineer the cab collapsing into more condensed legs. They're largely hollow, so just a couple more folding panels and the legs wouldn't be so gigantic in the back. I think that would have made this a great figure.

Gimme a core Magnus styled white one plz
Treadshot 2.0
I think my favorite thing about this mode, as great as the robot mode is, is how faithful the truck mode is to an actual truck. In particular, the back of the truck, which is normally a part that sucks on Optimus prime toys. They took Energon Optimus primes approach to kibble management and basically perfected it

This Optimus Prime looks just fantastic, love the legs design.

Thank you. I admire your perceptively keen eye. It's the little details here and there that are most important to me, and I represented that in various different ways with all 3 Variants, a lot of which you noticed. Having transformed my copy well over a dozen times, it not only made me appreciate how intricate and creative the engineering of this figure is, but also the fact that 80% of the Robot mode is not at all visible in Truck mode.
So It allowed me to experiment a lot more than I would've been able to otherwise, so I used this to my advantage when working on all of their individual color schemes. Here are some lengthy write-ups going in detail on both my decisions and inspiration while working on all 3 of these:
This was definitely one of my more intricate and fun projects to date. I have one more variant separate from these 3 that I plan on doing at some point in the near future. but right now, I'm just taking a breather from Digibashing this Mold.
Captain Shadowpants
I swear I would buy ALL THREE of these, you have no idea. I love how you take advantage of the fact hidden parts can form new colors in different ways with all three of them.
The default Amazon one having the chest, shoulders, and arms introduce a new lighter blue while the biceps and thighs add some white, the Fresh version introducing tan with the thighs and biceps along with some dark red on the head, and the white truck variant only introducing a new color of orange on the knees, hands, and head with a fantastic, balanced scheme that borderline feels like a suitable Nova Prime alternative.
The fact that these will never exist, at the very least not as you've designed them, is beyond depressing to me, and all the worse with the fact so much of the figure is held together with flat-head pins that I doubt it's even possible to repaint him ourselves if we want new variants. I genuinely think someone should message somebody at Hasbro with these images in the hopes we can get these. This mold is just too good for it to stop with just two uses.
BATTLEMASTER
Here are some pictures of VNR Prime with Legacy Motormaster. I liked comparing the two figures since both of them have about 90-95% of the robot making up the cab, more so with Motormaster than VNR Prime. They can also tow each other's trailers! But Motormaster can't really pivot at all with Volvo Primes kingpin adapter location, so Volvo Prime can totally trailerjack Motormaster
Note that the alternate leg transformation for Motormaster I used in the front view pic but not the side view would stick panels out the back of his legs to a little less of a degree than Volvo Prime's cab kibble.

EDIT: I wanted to add some of my thoughts comparing the transformation between the two truckformers:
– Both have the rear wall of the cab forming the chest.
– Transformation scheme is similar, but Volvo Prime's is overall more complex with more moving parts, like flip-out abs, a pelvic rotation, and a folding tandem axle assembly
– Both have swing joints on the knees that need to be straightened for proper balance.
– Both have tandem axles that end up on the back of the figure. However Volvo Prime's head is stored there whereas Motormaster's head stays where the transmission of the actual truck would go.
– Both have arms that tuck under the truck. Volvo Prime's arms go under the cab while Motormaster's arms tuck into the frame rails to the tandem axles.

Maybe the next Transformers X Volvo figure should be one of their station wagons!
IgnikaMarcus
I'm surprised this guy is actually labeled a collaborative figure, as denoted by his instructions.
BATTLEMASTER
The nice thing about playing around with this is that I was able to fix my wife's Santa Prime. We couldn't figure out what we were missing that kept the alt mode from holding together correctly. It turns out I forgot to flip his abs back out from robot mode
I'm getting a Legacy Menasor set soon and look forward to comparing this figure to Motormaster. They look like they have similar transformations where 95% of the robot is in the cab. It will be fun seeing what the differences are!
