To provide some context to this particular piece. The outline Sunbow handed to Ron Friedman for his second TFTM script told him to do one thing, the script he turned in depicted quite another thing (outline and script are available here: The Sunbow Marvel Archive: MP 4034 The Transformers The Movie (Sunbow Productions/Marvel Productions) )

Clearly Springer was in his bulk phase at the time of the the pre-production portrait, before he cut for the filming!

Production materials such as these are always fascinating to see.
I Am James
Interesting that they were planning on giving Cybertron 3 moons
Nevermore
It's like when the cartoon show bible pops up for the umphtiest time, or the same three samples of the unreleased G2 figures are sold on eBay every few years. Each time, it's considered newsworthy because not everyone has seen them before, but if you've been part of the fandom long enough, you start getting a sense of deja vu.

Hard to believe this movie's nearly 40 years old and there's still never-before-seen concept art surfacing. Really makes you wonder what else might be out there.

Regardless of Floro Derys…eccentricities…I do love his artwork.
GAUGE
These appear to be the original Xerox Copies. The ones that have been passed around the web for the last 15+ years are xerox copies of xerox copies of xerox copies. When you copy stuff like that after awhile they degrade, fade etc.

I'm not sure what's new here, but we've at least seen most of this before
I feel like this is the highest resolution we've ever seen these pictures at though, to be fair
Greebtron
True, but I decided to be a completist. Besides, the real story is that Floro Dery actually did have to interpret the unworkable nonsense from the second Friedman script in his concept art.
kjeevahh
These are not all new. My brother in law has some of them, I posted them on the forums years ago.

*Rodimus waks into Unicron’s brain chamber.
“BY PRIMUS, WHAT THE FUCKERING IS THAT?”
SSninja
I mean, the other option is more appropriate as that's how you would actually describe it if you saw it…

dont ruin this for me

Took me a minute to realize it said "Flickering" haha

He was with Marvel Productions as a background and model designer for season 2 of TF and the Movie. After that moved on to models and storyboards for GI Joe Season 2 and the Movie. Finished up in late 1986 with storyboarding music videos on Jem season 1. The Archive has storyboards for a music video of his that was completely cut from the episode.
After that, he was done with animation until 1997

I love the Jack Kirby esque over detailed landscapes, and the little notes about Arcee's design. I kinda hope we could see that design revived and modernized a bit.

I need one of these as a framed print.

Wow, I didn\'t realize Romeo worked for Sunbow. I only know him from his inking work at DC, most notably on Teen Titans.
From the looks of these, he should\'ve been given more penciling gigs!
