It's not super likely we'll see him even if he's getting sold. The leakers have gotten very uptight. Reactivate Prime only leaked because that photo was circulated to someone privately and that someone proceeded to send it to someone else and they immediately put it on Twitter, apparently. I doubt something like that will happen again but you never know, I think Animated Bee leaked just because some guy felt like it.

That being said, I'm pretty excited for him. I bought Baiwei Shockwave and he's… Okay. I don't think there's a great CHUG Shockwave that does what I want and maybe this one will be better. Can we please just get a Legacy Prime Shockwave?

At least officially they don't. Sam said in his Instagram comments that they know that the third party toys exist, but they just ignore them. Don't forget to take into account that Hasbro has a lot of strict safety laws that they have to adhere to that 3p doesnt. A lot of the similarities people see might just be kinda like a convergent evolution thing, where they come up with similar solutions for the problem

That's actually part of the reason I kind of dislike when people are all, "Why can't Hasbro/ Takara-Tomy do things like third party groups? Obviously it's possible to (do a figure at a particular scale/ do a character in a particular style/etc)!" Like, sure, they probably could, but they also have to adhere to things like safety laws and budget restrictions. Like, can you imagine how much something like Newage's take on Optimus Prime would be at a proper Voyager scale? The sheer amount of parts involved would probably drive the price up by a huge amount.

But in regards to Hasbro taking 3P designs for themselves, I always kind of thought it was a similar situation to those writers who avoid reading fanfiction related to their series. Like, in order to avoid any possibility they'd be accused of stealing ideas rather than coming up with their own.

Transformers is such a great concept I can see why it endures. But killing those characters left a mark on a generation and played a big role in it still being here today where so many other brands fell off. I think it's cool MOTU stuck around. I never collected it outside of a few casual purchases but I always admired it.

Yeah, but even Transformers with the "robots that change form" aspect wasn't unique, I think. The fact the franchise is still standing after stuff like, say, the Gobots fell to the wayside is pretty impressive. It's why I'm so fond of the Sunbow cartoon, because we never got the Marvel Comics here and so those would've been completely worthless to me as a type of advertising.

I'm kind of reminded of how things like Go-Lion, Dairugger VX and Space Musketeer Bismarck weren't particularly successful when they were first released in Japan (because there were so many similar shows at the time), but became major hits overseas as Lion Voltron, Vehicle Voltron and Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs.

I definitely feel like MPM Blackout took some design from Hide Shadow, specifically the hinge design on the out edge of the shoulder.
