Hasbro Transformers designer Mark Maher continues the news tonight on his Instagram with another behind the scenes look at an upcoming Transformers figure, this time the recently-revealed Buzzworthy Cybertronian Jazz!
“@Target Exclusive Legacy Deluxe Origins Cybertronian Jazz is part of the Buzzworthy Bumblebee line and quite frankly, became my new favorite Jazz toy instantly. If you didn’t get your hands on the ufo Origins Cybertronian Buzzworthy Bumblebee, get on the interwebs and start up the #toyhunt
.
I had the absolute pleasure of working with Yuya Onishi from Takara Tomy and man o’ man, what a treat! The proportions, the transformation, the special features, the articulation, the look 👀!!!! Ooooowweeee mannnnnn! Can you tell Im excited yet?!?
.
If by chance you don’t know, this cybertronian alt hover vehicle mode was featured in episode 1 of the G1 animated series. He is zooming around on cybertron and he unexpectedly zooms by the communication towers which you come to find out is Soundwaves cybertronian mode, whom is also featured in this glorious photoshoot of fun!
.
Lets get into some deets shall we. The grappling hook accessory can pop onto either folded in fists, 5mm holes and posts of course, there is storage for the grappling hook underneath the hovercar. Not featured here but the front of the hook can be placed on the end of his g1 styled blaster barrel. Both of his booster jets in alt mode are also blast effect compatible. Scale is perfectly sized with good ol bee, and his blaster does fit on top of the hover whip.
.
The deco break out worked out like a jazz flute solo, someone, please, call Ron Burgendy ,because this figure is just pumping sweet melodies in my ears. I mean, who doesn’t have love for Jazz really?? I was obsessed with his commercial interlude sequence in the g1 animation series and the design of this bot is just so solid!
.
Whats next??? Hmmmmmm…stay tuned”

How does that compare to past target exclusives please?

I hope so..

He was available on Pulse for several hours before selling out, so we can make a ballpark guess that they had anywhere from 1500-2500 units per their 5% deal, so a production run of 30,000-50,000 seems reasonable. At the high end that would be enough for every Target in the U.S. to get three cases, 24 figures per store on average bodes well for being able to find him.

Part of it could be I live in just south of the Twin Cities. So I've got several Targets nearby that get fairly high traffic. Lotta opportunity to sell through, which also means lotta restocking and likely overstocking.

Nice, for some reason a lot of the time that doesn’t happen at my Target minus the Origins Goldbug pack. It’s usually from what I have seen full price, then gone when they don’t want it anymore. They usually like most places shelfwarm so we shall see if Jazz like Origins Bee is the same.
T-Hybrid
There's always a possibility something changes, but around me all of the Target exclusives wind up going on Clearance at some point. How deep depends on the figure, but I was seeing Origins Bee as low as $6-11 depending on the store. Of course, Target could adjust their order size based off that so who knows if/when it'll stop.
TF Hot Rod
Hopefully I can find him in stores but if not I preordered him from Target just in case.
For me I think one thing that threw off NX Bee is the face. Something about it is off and feels almost lifeless. A factor is probably because he has no expression on his face.

Preorder is up on pulse

It's funny you should say that, because I 100% agree with you but this ironically is the reason why I vastly prefer Netflix Bumblebee to the Origins one. Origin Bumblebee is much more animation accurate, with the coloration and the head sculpt and whatnot, but something about him just feels off to me and for the life of me I can't tell what it is. Maybe its the wide shoulders, or the kibble hanging off the legs and back, or the oddly squat head, but something about him just doesn't tick with me. He looks like G1 Bumblebee, but he doesn't feel like G1 Bumblebee to me.
Meanwhile Netflix Bee, despite being a more stylized take thats less accurate to the cartoon look, just feels right to me. I don't know what it is with him, despite the proportions and color scheme being different he just works. I look at him and I go "Oh yeah, that's my Bumblebee!". I guess it's a similar thing that happens with MP-21 and MP-45: MP-45 is much more animation accurate and has the correct proportions, but MP-21 just captures the overall Bumblebee feel a lot better in my eyes.
Anyway tangent over, back to Jazz. He looks absolutely fantastic, such an improvement over Origin Bumblebee and makes me really look forward to a potential Origin Wheeljack! The only nitpick I have is that I wish the sort of "collar" torso area was colored white as opposed to black to be slightly more accurate and look more uniform:

But as it stands I can live with it just fine
I'm not sure if the head sculpt is any different from SS86 Jazz but in all of the promo pictures it looks a lot nicer and I definitely prefer the look of the blue visor, so I am gonna try to do a head swap once Origin Jazz comes out

I'm just gonna say that they should take whoever designed Origins Bee and Jazz and turn them loose in the Masterpiece design department (if they haven't already). I'm still amazed at what they pulled off with these two regular retail deluxes. Imagine what they could do with a per-figure budget that is several times larger. I honestly never thought I would see official versions of these two designs…that are actually nice to look at.

When does this go up for pre-order?

Because of this figure I finally got Origins Bumblebee and boy am I glad I did. That's actually a really nice figure.

So far I'm going to be Origins subline completist!

I think well we seeing him soon

I know it won't happen unless we're *really* lucky, but I'd kill to see this turned into Kick-Off – it'd be perfect

Rodimus Prime
It's not our fault half of the design notes were "remove for budget."

its a pretty amazing toy…
the only big flaw is the lack of the wheel wells/fenders on his legs, but there\'s only so much you can do with a real physical object that needs to scale to a certain size
I guess Wheeljack will finish off the series since we\'ve already gotten a semi-official Soundwave transformation hidden in the boxflap of his toy and Laserbeak has been done (albeit not as a saucer-bird)…
I would not be against them doing hypothetical cybertronian alt-modes for some of the rest of the original cast though…

I'm really impressed by how slick they managed to make his robot mode given the entirely different transformation. The only flaw would be how much it cuts into his legs, but that's a minor quibble, especially for a deluxe. 100% gonna try and find him once he's out.
