Hasbro designer Evan Brooks has treated us with some official in-hand images of the new Legacy Core Class Dinobots including the recently revealed Core Grimlock via his Instagram account.
Read on for his comments about Grimlock, Slug, Sludge and… Volcanicus!
Hello again, Transformer Fans!
Last of the Legacy follow up posts from me ( I’ll get to some Studio series ones next, I promise!).
This time showing off more of the Core Class dinobots and the leader of the pack, Grimlock!
Getting the original trio together, here is the big (80’s) t-rex bot shrunk down to core class. The head heights of all the dinobots should be all relatively the same height ( Slug were a triceratops for a helmet so he does end up being a bit taller by a technicality) and they look great together.
And of course, Combining to form Volcanicus! Grimlock forms the left leg (all the great combiner team leaders form legs) and has a hinge that allows for Knee movement when in combined mode. The knee hinge is off center so that he won’t interfere with the other leg since he is quite a wide bot. He’s a very sturdy foot that you’ve already seen supporting the other two bots! He might make for a great junkion limb as well.
I’ve made sure to include a comparison image of the combined mode next to a DLX and VOY figure so you all can get a sense of the final height.
Please look forward to the remaining 3 members of this team to be revealed as we continue on into 2023!

Ok, he got back, he said it was just Slag lol.

That’s got to be a typo, Snarl is still like two or three waves away and hasn’t even been leaked.
Jalen Gatton07
Apparently Snarl has been found at US retail. From the California sightings thread.

Isn't that just the normal Grimlock leg configuration? That looks like how the designer has his transformed for Volcanicus. Unless I'm misunderstanding your picture?
That is a good point. We haven't seen Snarl yet and as you suggest his back fins(can't remember what they're called) could form parts for feet. Or maybe some kind of weapons for Volcanicus(or the potential future Dinoking).
Also and I think someone else suggested this but if they do a Dinoking gift set it could come with some kind of additional feet. It's fun to speculate at least about what a potential Dinoking might have.
Nightstrike
Yeah, though admittedly there is one other possibility that comes to mind, seeing as we've yet to see Snarl. Parts from his back to form the combiner feet.
mellowshade
I put this together as it gives Grimlock's accessory something to do. But I also hope Hannah's suggestion that it's extra parts compatiable is true and we get a box set with some new ankle tilting feet part included.View attachment 29900535 View attachment 29900536

Last time I checked was 5 months ago lol
I'll find the post, but it's possible to reverse, adjust a few things, and plop the gun on as a foot. Obviously it reduces the angle of the knee a bit, but it's a bit better than the hoof thing he has by default, unless they find a way to pack feet in with Snarl.
Alt parts were accidentally shown a while back. Obviously missing member, but that at the time would've been the closest in-scale option.
I had not recently checked for secondhand sets as I only get stuff via eBay and Amazon, so it's actually a welcome surprise to see it that cheap, thank you!
EDIT: Last I checked out of curiosity, the set was 400+ so yeah, I'm a bit behind!
Q Prime
Yes, which is where the part about a missing member and the wrong formation comes in. The rest is in response to the claim that the 3P version is comically expensively compared to a possible PotP version, which is clearly not true based on their data.

I think they're talking about a retool of potp volcanicus into dinoking instead of volcanicus itself.
TargetmasterJoe
Where? I'm not seeing anything on his Twitter.
Dirge121
FP Saurus was $150 yesterday. The Pulse Volcanicus was $180 and the retail version was $110. Plus you know, a missing member and the completely wrong combination format.
Nightstrike
We had a missed opportunity with an official set in the form of POTP retool, and FP's Saurus is comically expensive for those who want something that fits with CHUG.
Zentropy
Sorry, I’m late to the discussion, but isn’t there a larger combining set of Dinobots out there already? One which could “stack up” to Victory Saber?
Skimming through, It sounds like some folks are complaining that this apple isn’t the orange they are seeking.
Nightstrike
Might be new feet, but there is an alternate configuration @mellowshade figured out to give this thing proper feet.
TargetmasterJoe
Holy foreshadowing, Batman!
@HalleyHanna on Twitter found a port on Core Grimlock that isn't used in robot or dino modes!

Either Volcanicus was planned to have feet or they're saving the feet for Dinoking as an extra incentive. At the very least, third-party guys can work on their own Core Volcanicus feet!

Your response said “people’s” Isn’t that plural. Doesn’t saying about one person. Your post came across as a general statement. You don’t need to be condescending. You made a general statement and people responded. Why even comment if you have a problem with the responses. Not sure why discussions about toys have to escalate lol

My dude, there was one specific guy who got cranked up because he didn’t like a ratio of dollars to height inches, and that is the only thing I was talking about in the thing you quoted me on. You want to tell me what the point is or isn’t, but I only had that one point, and I do not care that much one way or another about all these other angles the Giant Dinoking Club wants me to be the strawman for. I’m sorry I didn’t take their very important cause more seriously.
I like the little toy, but I’m sure I’d have liked a big version too. Is that okay? Are we good? Yeeeeeeeesh
Seanprime
There’s nothing wrong with wanting a dinoking that stacks up with victory saber. You have your preferences and others have there’s. You don’t need to down play someone’s preference. I like transformers victory, in the show dinoking is big as any other combiner in any other show etc. I’d like my figures to represent that. Also Hasbro has generally made figures in their “correct” scale etc. This is not new, watched show, wants toys that look like show, happy. Of course short robots can be and are cool, that’s not the point.
JazzAlert13
Dinoking will be perfect as a minivoyager, towered over by there leader.
Phil Bond
I just cannot bring myself to care about any other factor besides small toy.
Old toy small. Want new small toy. Good. Thank you. Happy now.
