SS-101 TF7 Rise of the Beasts Scourge
“POWER IS PRIMAL”
Glad to finally have Scourge get an official reveal, along with having some great photography to show off some of the awesome light piping effects brought throughout this design.
Scourge as a character was a lot of fun to work on and produced a number of challenges to overcome throughout the design process. Based on the artwork that we started this character from, there was a lot of emphasis on the use of a glowing orange energy that was emitting from the core of the engine block, grill and cab. (Think the furnace in the basement from the first Home Alone film, Terrifying!) We tried to replicate this in the product with translucent orange plastic and we used a gradient fade to the grill to retain some subtlety to the vehicle mode.
We also knew that we were going to have some alternate arms for Scourge. The concept art depicted a large bladed scythe that he would carry in his right hand, along with an arm cannon that would transform into a large grabber claw.
Kunihiro did an incredible job of establishing a complex design plan for the transformation, and solving for a number of the discrepancies between the vehicle and robot forms. Additionally Kunihiro came up with an awesome solution for the arm cannon to allow for a transformation to recreate the plow and barrels that sit on the back of the vehicle form.
For Scourge’s deco, we worked with a pretty dark and drab color palette. To help recreate some of the unique matte finishes, we sandblasted the vehicle molds to make it feel more worn and distressed. Once we had applied all of the base colors , we focused the remaining paint operations to applying weathering and secondary color pops with elements like the chains that are used throughout the robot and alt modes. Lastly, to avoid breaking the apocalyptic vibe that this whole design emanates, we assembled it with black pins and screw hardware.
NOTE: I won’t be sharing full Screen to Toy asset breakdowns prior to the films release out of respect to our studio partnerships.

I won’t be shocked if they do eventually, they’ll just name it final batttle Scourge with a new backdrop. Also a retooled Nightbird maybe with the extended wings.
CobraKai
I agree. It’s dang near the price of an MP with all these upgrades. I missed out on Scourge and Battle Trap, id love a rerelease with at least a screen accurate head for Scourge.
PrimeBot
It does make me wonder why Hasbro just doesn't release a whole new Scourge at this point with an updated toy. Cause the prices on these are about as much as people have paid for him lol.
PrimeBot
Oh ok, got it
AngelOfDeath
I think they just stay connected to the wheels and end up there, not necessarily partsforming
Revan1307
Unless u got all three figures this second kit seems pointless
PlanckEpoch
A shame when Bandai knows they can get away with it. I mean I'm guilty of it myself. I order a ton of P Bandai, so they've got me by the balls.

At this point I’m gonna wait for Bawei’s KO and hope the improvements they are making come out well since I still think their’s forarms and thighs are still too skinny. Or maybe just get the BMB KO and the first DNA kit but with that figures QC and details missing that’s unlikely.

At this point its really a ship of thesis situation like what Takara did with AOE Leader Optimus…

Love that to get a completely upgraded Scourge we have to buy some extra decorations for Nightbird and parts for Battletrap that don’t fix any of the problems with that mold. Plus an entirely seperate kit that is just parts for Scourge.
To get a solid looking Scourge at this point we’re likely talking $55 base figure, $45 upgrade kit and then this is probably another $40. Nah man, I’m good.
John Titor
This kit doesn't address any of the main problems with this mold
fartsniffer42
Man I love how most of their cooler releases are more expensive P-Bandai exclusives
gbm
Ah, they need to be removed? Got it.
octobotimus
They partsform and hide inside the backpack area.

I am having trouble understanding how Scourge transforms to truck mode with the new shoulder pads; as they form the front end of the truck.
Says it's fully transformable, and one photo even shows a close up with the old pads still in tact, but I can't see where they go in bot mode.
:/
????????

I think it’s safe to say given you’ll need almost $100 of upgrades for scourge, we need a whole new figure at this point. Hell with the price of the kits and scourge you’re probably paying most of what a theoretical 3p or official mp would.
maloney4playz
It's a separate kit from the main scourge kit. This one only has the left hand and new shoulders
Judgement prime
So we have more accurate shoulder armor. But what about the trophies
PrimeBot
Oh damn, awsome we are getting upgrade kits for Nightbird and Battletrap. Plus the new shoulders and extra arm for Scourge. Is his claw still going to be included ?
