Via eBay we can share for your several Transformers The Movie early Toei models images for your viewing pleasure.

Read on for information about these pieces thanks to eBay seller Bustatoons (UK based).

Acquired directly from Marvel Productions in 1989 (and stored in a warehouse in Los Angeles until I discovered a batch of them in 2018) this photo stat is one of many that shows early character models for the cast of Transformers: The Movie illustrated by the artists of Toei Doga. Marvel Productions would then make notes informing the Japanese studio of what changes were required to be made to these characters models and fax them over!

I remember a previous auction once had some production comments from Marvel Productions themselves back to Toei saying how they could revise models such as these. I imagine it was a very back-and-forth process.

This sounds confusing as hell trying to work off text descriptions. 'chest looks to muddy ' what??
Also it says keep the blue on wheelie, which clearly didn't happen

Fun to see the anime influence in a lot of these – Hot Rod in particular looks like he just drove out of an episode of Bubblegum Crisis, or a vehicle you'd chase down in Snatcher or something.

Satoshi U, who was an apprentice back in 1983/84 up at Toei was given the job to do the JP side character designs on TF and G.I. Joe RAH. I especially love his attention to intricate details and the glossy effect style on his works :drool:
Heck, he even made Unicron look handsome (see his Record of Lodoss War, Langrisser designs and Valken!) and was not officially acknowledged of this until after he left the company (kind of like Yoshitaka Amano on the original Gatchaman (I checked the credits btw).

I make it an effort to try and collect his artbooks whenever I find one so this is heart breaking that these auctions come at the time Skyfire is being released! :banghead:

I recall seeing these images years ago.

It's pretty cool to see them for sale.

When I saw them though there was much larger images out there.

I especially recall that Unicron. That's when he was made to look more like a Viking.

I really love his Viking Helmet look.

Looking at the close up of Unicron's face that seems to be much higher resolution than the full body shots you shared.

Do you have the full body shots at an even higher resolution? I plan on cleaning these up with an AI upscale and Photoshop to make some clean prints.
