Via Twitter user @ROTBTrailer we can share for you a special cameo of Transformers Rise Of The Beast Optimus Primal during NFL Nickmas 2022.
To our surprise, Optimus Primal appeared during Nickelodeon’s NFL football game transmission. Primal appears in gorilla mode and then jumps back and transforms into robot mode swinging his blade. This may be our best look at Optimus Primal robot mode so far even if it’s not an HQ recording.
Not much left to say, so watch the clip after the jump as well as some screencaps and then let us know your impressions on the 2005 Boards!

Yep, and directors without an eye for detail or lack of experience with animation/CGI generally are really bad for movies like this. Because what ends up happening is them not having any understanding of how important the CGI is or how the VFX process works. Its one of the reasons I have no faith in the VFX improving, because for that to happen you need not only a good VFX company, but a director that understands how it works and has a singular vision from the start. See it all the time with recent movies, especially under marvel, where directors constantly are changing things or have no clue how it works and we end up with terrible effects or things that make little to no sense.
I want this model back

Yeah, it probably is something that simple. Caple wanted the Prime from the BB movie modified to fit the new truck design. MPC didn't have access to ILM's models so they dug up some old concept art while maybe referencing a couple of stills from the BB movie and came up with the new Prime. They didn't really consider that the Bumblebee movie model actually had improved significantly from the concept art. Same with Caple. He saw the new model and thought looked good enough. He's not an animator like Travis Knight. He doesn't have an eye for details like this. And I don't mean to make this a jab at him. He might be a competent director in other regards—just not with CGI/animation.

I don’t hate the design we are getting as much as others do but really I can’t disagree with that at all.
Some of colors being gone suck but I could still live with that for now but it’s mainly for me just this weird shift of going from building off the BBM design with some more parts to a weird shift of it being more based off of concept art than the final design from BB. Just it looks worse.
I do wanna know why the design in the control art is so different from the final design. Was it just Hasbro or whoever just using what assets they have currently as a place holder control art?
octobotimus
Its so depressing to see they had a much better Optimus design that legit was built upon the BB design and then just went "nah fuck it, make it worse and remove half the color".
TF Hot Rod
It’s semantics kinda but I’d agrue that’s a combo of Bayverse Bee but also a Camaro being more angular and less round than a Camaro
I guess so I get what your saying but even then the approved design for BBM Bee was kinda like the control art which even then was still a little lean that early unapproved art.

I look forward to finding out more.
Especially to see how kinda different the control art here is different from the final design.

simple, just like Optimus, Bee is most likely re-using concept art elements. in the new film he's more lean and less round, just like bayverse bee. What did we see from early models of BB from his film? a more lean less round model which the SS figure was based on.
He was probably told to have the designs look similar in the next film and instead of actually seeing if they were any different in the movie simply thought the concept art designs were what was used. I doubt he even knows his model is all that different from the BB movie prime.
TF Hot Rod
Agreed, while not horrible (still like it a little better than Knight AOE Prime) but the changed do make it worse.
And 100% you ask a casual they would not be able to tell the difference. Same for Bumblebee (compared to his other Camaro movie designs).
PixelMagic
But the thing is, it's not very different. It's like 90% the same. That 10% makes it worse (not horrible, tho), but it's not like a casual fan could tell the differences without them being side by side.
TF Hot Rod
Maybe but why does Bee still have a fair bit of parts from his BBM design still on him? Because with how redesigned he is, he still has some of those parts along with the same battlemask that Travis and those that worked on BB made.

Along with the fact that Prime’s alt mode is literally his Energon Igniter from 2018 that Hasbro made.

My bet is that the director was given artwork from the previous film, saw the early draft for Prime from BB and just said "this one" and didn't bother seeing the design in BB or seeing how differently proportioned it was. Many directors, as great as they are, hate continuing on something someone else made and want to be different for the sake of being different.
TF Hot Rod
The waist is still a little skinny but I think the waist isn't as obnoxious to me as before.
I still like the ROTB design not perfect or as good but not terrible IMO. But with all being said I wonder the reason for taking a lot of cues from the concept art for BB. My theory is that and doing "something different" may be a Hasbro-requested thing.
PixelMagic
Agreed. The BB Prime is the perfect movie interpretation of the G1 design. I don't even know why they tried to do something different. It is perfection.
octobotimus
Yep can definitely tell its their first time designing Transformers. couldn't even carry over/copy a design correctly….

Now we can do a full body comparison between the ROTB and BB Movie Prime models. Yup, the ROTB model is still a downgrade from the BB model in every possible way. The abdomen is a dark pit. The legs are particularly bad too. Like now, the thighs are more simplified and are glued directly onto the waist. There's no small gap for the joint between the thighs and waist like in the BB model so it no longer flows naturally. The thighs are also so large now that they stick out past the waist. The lower legs are also flat compared to the more athletic look of the BB model. And last, that skinny head. I don't see any part of the ROTB model that is an improvement. Wow.

Primal looks good imo. Sure yes it could use more color in robot mode but still I like how he looks.
Prime I still think like many that it isn’t as good as his BBM design, that being said I think the design is not a huge downgrade and while the design still has some problems, the design is growing on me a bit.

I'm beginning to love this design

Because it was actually on Narnia, not Earth.

I'm just happy to see kids these days being exposed to the Boss Monkey.

I've noticed Optimus has way better proportions here than he did in the trailer.
