Director Steven Caple Jr. has shared some behind the scenes videos of two newly revealed voice actors for our bots in Transformers Rise of the Beasts. Pete Davidson from SNL will be voicing Mirage, while Michelle Yeoh from Star Trek Discovery and many other projects will be voicing Airrazor. Looks like things are moving along over there on the way to June 9th, 2023 when TF7 will hit theaters. Read on to check out a quick IG post from @stevencaplejr! Make sure to sound off what you think about the choices on the 2005 Boards!

No Pauline Newstone?

Idk man. Think of cars. That franchise is a huge success. A lot of franchises actually come to mind. A bugs life, lion king, monsters inc, etc. But notice how these are all animated movies.
You're right in saying that a love action transformers movie will realistically need a lot of human scenes. But that's because of intense cgi and budgeting. That's why live action movies are more human orientated. Because having Optimus prime on screen is really expensive. After all if we needed humans in every movie, we wouldn't have the full animated one coming in 2024

I’m aware TF fans don’t need humans to relate to. Hollywood and general audiences do. You have to remember a vast majority of movie goers aren’t exactly drawn into non human or non explosive moments. Either it’s animated or we get live action with humans. Only 2 options we get unfortunately.
Timothy.R
Yeah, I’ve been hearing that excuse since ‘07 and it just doesn’t fly anymore. You don’t need a human character to “relate” to. That’s just nonsense.
What about beast wars and G1?.. how everything started? Did anyone really need to see humans on those shows to make the characters relatable?
People loved Wall-E right? That was a robot that couldn’t talk running around with another robot that couldn’t talk and neither of them were even humanoid. Yes there were humans, but the movie followed wall-e and Eva mainly.
Or what about sesame street? Again, humans are in that but aren’t the main cast.
Hell, what about John Wick? How many characters in that movie can someone actually relate to? It’s just a silly argument. People relate to good quality characters, they don’t need someone who looks and acts like them in order to enjoy a movie.
There have been countless movies that focus on non human main characters. And there are plenty of movies that are 90% CGI.
How many Sam witwicky toys do you own? Then how many transformers toys do you own? When a parent takes a child to buy movie merchandise, is the kid more likely to pick out something with Shia’s face plastered all over it or Optimus prime’s?
It doesn’t make sense.
And I wasn’t talking about the action in the cybertron sequence, I was saying that the focus was on the actual transformers.

Hr did standup back around 7-10 years ago, I don't remember exactly when he joined SNL. For movies he had his minor roll in angry birds and suicide squad, which were kinda comedies? Idk his other stuff but I know king of Staten island, which he played the lead and either produced, wrote, or directed (the movie is based on his life so I think he did something to that extent), was well received

Reddit is arguably worse than this place, which is saying something
kwanzaabot
He does stand-up? So what's he doing on SNL? You'd think they'd cast him in a comedy instead
j/k.
Well, half j/k anyway

Unfortunately reality dictates these movie are live action. Meaning you need something other than cgi robots to relate to the non TF fan audience, so humans are shoved in. Bumblebee was a good film, not amazing but it’s hardly bad because “it’s more of the same”. Most movies nowadays are more of the same plot wise (hell I accurately predict 98% of movies), the differences just end up being shitty writing.
The Cybertron opening is just that, an opening. You can’t have an opening for 2 hours so things will slow down and then you’ll realize the plot will turn into “more of the same” regardless of designs.

100% agree buddy. I think it was a major improvement, but if I were to put it on a scale with 100 being exactly what I want, it would be a 35, with bay movies being around 15. That cybertron scene is still the best piece of live action transformers media to date, and ill die on that hill lol.
Timothy.R
To me bumblebee was more of the same. Sure it was way better in terms of story and lacked the Bay stain. But it was still essentially the same story as the first transformers movie only on a smaller scale with fewer transformers.
The best part of the bumblebee was the cybertron segment. THAT is what I want to see but on earth. I want a movie that finally sets the humans aside and allows the transformers to be the stars of their own movie. That scene on cybertron was perfect in almost every way aside from megatrons absence. The robot designs were perfect, we got to see robots speak to each other with more than stupid one-liners.

lol tough
It blew him up but he has a lot of different things here and there. His movie was pretty good and he's had decent cameos here and there. I'm personally a fan of his standup from his teenage years. You might like it, you might not, depends on your humor
kwanzaabot
He has a resume? I genuinely only know him from Kanye's one-sided feud with him
captaingambit
I did! I found it to be an incredibly satisfying thing to witness.
newmanium
You should watch The Suicide Squad. His head is blown off in the first 5 minutes.
zark225
Lmao you joke but I've seen people on the boards defend gatekeeping, so its very likely.
JS_Prime
It will bring in more people for us to gatekeep!
zark225
Damn. Not sure how the movie or anyone that worked on it will be able to recover from that one. Almost as good as the terrible "Age of Excrement" that I've seen said around these boards.
octobotimus
Then the casting shouldn’t matter to ya.
captaingambit
I love Michelle Yeoh. I don’t see anything specific about her to make her a particularly great choice for the character, but thats fine.
i actively HATE Pete Davidson, and actively avoid anything with him in it. But that’s fine too because I was never going to spend money to watch this film.
i quit seeing these films after Age of ExSTINKtion, and couldn’t be bothered to watch the Bumblebee movie. I’m glad it has its fans. But I’m absolutely never going to pay money again to see a film with “rise of” in the title, and almost as likely never to watch another live action transformers flick.
Slimaximus
Couldn't have said it any better
