Hasbro Transformers designer Mark Maher has once again taken to his Instagram account for another behind the scenes post. This time he’s revealing for us some secrets and hidden details of the Transformers Buzzworthy Bumblebee Creatures Collide 4-pack.
Now that some time has passed, I’m able to share with you the Creatures Collide Buzzworthy Bumblebee four pack! I had a really great time working on this pack and I hope all of you have had a chance to scoup it from 🎯 Target.
So I’ve seen a lot of great pictures being posted of these great characters, but I did not see many mention the black hardware that was issued on all of the creatures in the pack. I thought the black hardware was essential to relay how evil these guys are. I tried for copper hardware for the main man Goldbug but alas, that hardware does not meet our current safety standards.
As you swipe you can see I was able to keep all the extra heads for the creatures. My idea behind this was just lil old Goldbug going up against an army of insecticons and predacons, obviously he triumphs defying all odds. The extra head with ransack was to utilize your Legacy Kickback for that sweet G1 look with the black visor! For the Waruader Parasyte you have the alternate head that is linked to the Skywasp horrorcon prototype that was never released back in the day of beast wars. The other head of Scorponok was paying homage to his first toy release mutant battle mask. I did my damnedest to try to match that crazy pearl essence metallic blurple color on his OG toy but I ended up leaning more towards predacon purple and I even matched the partial transparent look with the metallic fleck the original rocked.
Ive been really trying hard to have secret features hidden in the first molds of character releases to sweeten the deal for their redeco releases. That mid section torso was the idea me and Kunihiro san worked on together to give the redeco Ransack as much love as possible. Be on the lookout 👀 for more features such as these!
This pack also delivers the #netflix Bumblebee licensed VW mold which was also my plan up front when we did the Shattered Glass BB. This place moves incredibly fast and thoughts such as these always don’t come to fruition, but the fact that this release happened, gives me all the warm and fuzzy feels!!
Still trying to answer comments when I can, apologies for all that I miss! Pulsecon soon!!!!

Same, that's pretty rad!

anyone have the screw pitch I might have to turn some new screws for goldbug now

I had noticed the extra finish before, which is why I'm kicking myself that I didn't grasp "hardware" from the off!

Yep. And its such a small (but awesome) detail that I didn't even realize it until Mark pointed it out.

So literally "Hardware" as the kinds of things you would get from a Hardware store, nails, pins, screws, etc.
Sometimes it's so easy to overlook the obvious when you try to filter terminology that isn't really industry specific thru the "must be toy industry jargon" filter!

The screws and pins on the 3 beasts are black instead of silver like they usually are.

In the context of the post, I assumed this meant that Goldbug's gun/bazooka was black.

The Dilemma is that the molds wings can only rotate, so it would be unpossible to give it tradition katydid wings. Therefor wacky biologically abdomen on a robotic grasshopper!

what is copper/black hardware?

So common that it is thought that we won't be getting Creatures Collide at all, because the first 4-pack isn't shifting enough (I wonder why?)…

I definitely hear the "these toys very well might not have existed at all if not for doing this many in a pack" argument. I'm not happy with it, but I would certainly rather the toy (Goldbug, in this case, or Fangry from last year's similarly-blighted set) exist than not exist.
That said, I'm not quite convinced it had to be "all or nothing." Others have suggested two-packs, or at least grouping the BW figures together, and the G1 (or at least non-BW) figures together, rather than mixing them all together. Either option would leave me with fewer figures that I have less than zero interest in (by which I mean that I was so off-put by paying for figures I don't want that I opted not to get ANY of them). I'm just not up for doing the "sell the extras on eBay" thing anymore. Just takes too much time and hassle.

I don't doubt that it could be a Target demand, just feels like poor marketing, especially considering the economic climate the majority of consumers are living in, one way or another.

I'm pretty sure it's Target who demands the four-packs. Target has quite a few multipacks, a lot of them just repackaged Cyberverse something-or-other, but Hasbro uses the Generations multipack opportunities to put out various redecoes they don't have room for elsewhere.
Sometimes stores want big items. And sometimes that's how we get things we wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

Well, for some behind the scenes for me Mark, I've really only wanted one of these figures for both of these Buzzworthy 4 pack sets…the result is your company got zero of my money and they're not important enough for me to pay scalper aftermarket prices. I doubt I'm alone on this, so maybe tell the higher ups to consider paring them down to two packs at the very least and you'll probably move more product.

I mean, Skywasp is definitely a Waruders reference in that he’s a repurpose of Parasyte who was sold by Botcon as a new Waruder.

It’s not a Warudaros reference. There was a BotCon set of Waspinator repaints as Waruders, the insectoid enemy faction from Diaclone, one of whom was based on the unreleased Horrorcon Waspinator and later repurposed as ‘Skywasp’. This new figure being based on that design.

Why doesn't Kickback's chest open it's like they designed it too then removed the feature.

Speaking of Bombshell and Shrapnel, I really hope they don't go with a faux cannon/nose on top of Bombshell's head. That sort of thing would really irritate me.

Maybe Marketing assumed Fangry would be more popular in Oz 'cause he sounds like a native colloquial contraction – Dunny, Barbie, Tinnie, etc.?
