TFW’s Jtprime17 has yet another piece of news for us this evening, that being our first look at the upcoming Velocitron Voyager Hot Rod!
The photos he’s provided us with show off the figure’s packaging as well as his robot and vehicle modes along with his accessories. Hot Rod appears to be a redeco of the previous SS86 Voyager figure in slightly darker, more G1 toy-inspired colors.
Check out the images after the break and let us know what you think!

I mean I'd definitely prefer they use the ER mold if it's actually possible, and that's apparently what they originally wanted to do, but there's been a lot of speculation that they just wouldn't be able to make it physically work. If they can't do that then I'd prefer no inner robot at all, but I'd prefer the Siege Optimus mold over a new SS86 Optimus mold.

Please no, he’ll have enough of a backpack without Siege’s help, thank you very much. Also ER would be perfect toy proportions.
Optimus1138
It would be great if they could do this for SS86 Magnus, since the ER proportions wouldn't work as well.
That's what we were all hoping for, I think. The first wave set our expectations too high.

Could be Walmart is having issues getting rid of the previous wave of Velocitron so isn't in any hurry to order/stock replacements. And since it's exclusive to Walmart, there's no rush from Hasbro if it won't be out any time soon.

Yes, I know. What I meant with Generic is the idea. Release an evil version of a heroic character and what colour is he? Very often black. Prior to SG version, most evil Optimii, be it alternate universe of evil clone, were black. And not just Optimus. So what colour is evil Hot Rod? Black.
And there's no reason why he should be. Some SG deco's are truly brilliant, and some like Hot Rod are lazy. Unless, as I said originally, if Hot Rod is meant to evoke Bombshell and then Rodimus Prime is coloured like Cyclonus to depict that transition. But then the SG Hot Rod colours are wrong: there should be a lot of purple and yellow on his chest.
The fanclub (OTCC) Sideburn from the 2007 Classics Hot Rod. At the time fans were already hoping Fansproject would release their Rodimus Prime upgrade set for that deco. And of course, as I posted, the disguise colours Rodimus featured in The Ultimate Weapon.

I appreciate it! Very strange that we learned about it along with the other Velocitron wave 2 items but it is being released substantially after them.

Nothing yet, except a general 2023 release.
Oh and bump all you want. Don’t mind the the snowflakes who can’t handle

In a roundabout way, sg rodimus is based off of Motormaster via titanium menasor. The color scheme is not generic unless you think motormaster is.
Not sure why Sideburn Prime? But Sideburn would have been a more interesting choice like a said a few pages earlier. You not even need to give him a new head to make him look accurate! His asymmetrical design could easily be done with paint like the tfcc one.

I think had they included a Targetmaster, I'd be a little more excited. Not a whole lot but a little. After having the SS86 and LG Targetmaster versions, I'm kind of done putting Hot Rod on my shelf.

I can't wait for this figure. I had the vintage Hot Rod and this is my preferred color scheme.

I forgot to consider the vast number of people who painted theirs pink!
I do certainly like the deco better than SS86, but I still feel that it falls short for a toy-style reissue. The tampos are very disappointing and I’d have loved to have seen a redesigned head.

I do not care if he doesn't care. Bottom line, we pretty much already received what he's asking for.

Betting it was delayed due to the tissue bag being placed on the outside if that box pic is anything to go by.
For me, I like this deco much better than SS86's. The energy saw blade is neat as well. Lastly, I painted my SS86 Hot Rod pink.

Would've much preferred if they retooled override into IDW rodimus

I don’t understand why this would be a highly anticipated release anyway. The SS86 version was— for better or worse, depending on your perspective— very animation-faithful in both design and deco. The images show a weak attempt (those are some sorry tampos) to apply a toy-like palette to what is still a very toon-like sculpt. I’m struggling to understand the audience for this one.
It’s like lipstick on a pig, or mud on a masterpiece— again, depending on one’s feelings about the SS86 release.

Minus the yellow eyes, the Netflix version is essentially in toy colors.
