I just received mine from Amazon today. Great detail on the robot mode, kinda fun transformation to the unique truck mode, and then smash smash smash – I can’t get him to transform back to robot mode!? Anyone else have this problem?
It isn’t just smash, you have to hit a button first, which I did, but the springs have locked him tight in partial transformation.

Shipping in November from amazon now. They have packaging pics too. First time I noticed it, anyway.

Which brings up 3 important lessons: 1) educational for parents, 2) developmental for children and 3) financial for the toy companies: when you (a kid) smash a new toy just quick enough in a week (but not instantly – which gets parents mad), you — precious-little-one-you — gets a new toy the next trip to the store. Ka-ching! Win-wins for the toy industry!
Oh, and broken toys are just more fodder for parents who are also fans of TF to build Junkion play sets for the kids instead of going to the landfill. Another win!

Children, all of you.
No, that can't be right.
Chaos Muffin
They have this going up against a $100 electronic dinosaur.

"Toy of the Year" nomination? A crummy commercial? Son of a b****!
I'm guessing the average child will smash this 11 times and transform it into a broken toy.
IceCreamCyborg
This toy is "Toy of the Year" about as much as Walmart is "America's Best Toy Shop"

Because Hasbro thought a simple to make/engineer toy that's bulky and gimmicky (i.e. BIG profit margin) is a sure win for the Christmas shopping parents segment. These people don't understand TF, but they buy TF when looking at those Walmart/Target/Toys R Us (some countries still got it, like my Canada) Toy Catalogue with it featured in the cover with "TOY OF THE YEAR!" word running atop it.
Which also answers the "how can an unreleased toy get TOTY?" question — because it's for the all-important Christmas shopping season.

Why the hell did they choose this toy?
Gee Won 1984
Menasor from Legacy would have been a better choice than this toy. If they care about winning at all.

Nominated by Hasbro. LOL

Clearly this award is intended for kid-friendly products. No fair asking for them to acknowledge a $120 collectible
BLOODRAGED189
Every time a transformer gets nominated for toy of the year it feels like one got chosen at random from a list of all the transformers released that year
Confused Millennial
Tempted to support him just based on his name. His human alter ego must be the late Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso.

This thing hasn't even shown up at retail, right? Why is it already randomly being nominated for "Toy of the year"?
Novaburnhilde
Ah, okay. That makes more sense.

But they're all toys for children. Even the Generations stuff.

It doesn’t, this is just a kid targeted product they want to advertise. You’re looking at this like it’s a legitimate, carefully reviewed selection process designed to help buyers make informed choices when it’s just not.
It’s advertising designed for parents to look at this list and buy the toys for their kid. Whoever pays the most gets the top spot.
If you’re getting upset about why it’s this toy and not whatever collector targeted item you want it to be then you’re missing the entire point of this. It’s for people who have no interest or knowledge about Transformers brand action figures and just want a company to tell them ‘what toy good?’

I've yet to be informed how a toy that involves hitting it against a surface to make it transform contributes to 'childhood development, interactivity and safety'.
