Transformers Legacy – Transmetal II Dragon Megatron
What a beast of a character this turned out to be. This was an awesome project to have the opportunity to take over from Lenny, and I absolutely loved his vision for what this figure would become. This dragon form is a great homage to the original character, but takes the opportunity to update it with some modern aesthetics to fit in the legacy styling. The Claws of the dragon mode are able to be incorporated into the robot chest, and both the tail and neck feature multi tiered balljoints to allow for maximum articulation. Ejima Takio did an incredible job of bringing this character to life, and to following the initial design plan so closely.
Fun fact, due to the scale texturing applied to the entire model, the characters digital file actually surpasses our Titan and Masterpiece figures in complexity. It’s a rig killer, but that seems fitting for Megatron.
There are a lot of complex colors used across the both modes, and a lot of subtle gradients used to mimic the transitions from the more pearlescent hardened scales to the brighter underbellies. There is a darker shade used as the eyeshadow on the dragons face, and a complimentary gold used on the horns and claws. The overall body is molded in a dark matte metallic red, to help reduce the color discrepancies between the various materials used for molding. His wings are molded in a warmer translucent amber, while the translucent parts are cast out of a stark orange clear ABS.
Lastly there is a 5mm port in the mouth of the dragon to be able to accept the flame accessory. This can be used in both Robot and Dragon mode, and can also be wielded as a club in the figures right hand.

I don't think people are quite fair to this figure.
1.) For current figures, he's rather complex.
2.) For current figures, his parts count is surprisingly numerous.
3.) His articulation is quite lovely.
4.) The DNA upgrade kit makes him even better. (I've spent more on less, trust me.)
I think $55.00 is fair. He's one of the Leaders I didn't feel a bunch of remorse paying MSRP for. I'm not even a super BW fan, either. That says a lot if it swayed me.
I do know it was on clearance at Hasbro Pulse (I think), one would be CRAZY to skip him on sale. He's worth the MSRP in my book, he's an absolute steal on clearance.

Megatron is not that bad for current lower standard. He looks massive in comparison to current small Leader figures but of course looks really small next old Leader figures and WORSE next to the original BW toy but anyway it is a nice figure.
I recently got him at a nice price, it is recommended around 35-40$, no much more than that. I’m very happy with him.

Finally got this bad boy, wow, he's great. It blows my mind how well articulated and integrated his dragons arms are.
Of course I swapped the wing claws into their correct positions, but managed to strip the heads of two of the screws, so only they main ones holding the wing blades in place are screwed on right now, though the left one is also not as sharp as the right one.
Does anyone know what's the exact size of the screws so that I can order some online?

this is probably the best bet, honestly hope this gets released within the next few years. I also hope the dragon mode and robot headsculpt is improved by then.

I imagine they would somehow retool them so they fold in a bit more at the top so you can just slide it up in the cloak and harness. I’ve been picturing a big accessory set-up like the Starscream’s throne or an Optimus trailer (but obviously more substantial). Have a stand that has a decently-tall bar sticking up, with an adjustable arm with the harness and robe on the end, maybe with a way to incorporate the dragon tail into it. Almost like a crane or something like that.

I’m struggling to reverse image search the original pictures but I have nothing so far. But I’m with you, this is probably the biggest grail concept I have right now.
My biggest question is over the wings. In the show they become the cloak, makes me wonder how they’d pull it off, Hasbro or otherwise.
Heat Blast
Honestly, I’d buy a second one if a third party creates a full upgrade kit.

I know this is an old reply but I’m really playing the waiting game for a remold akin to this

Hopefully we get a thread on whether or not it’s a real figure when it leaks! (Like way back when with OG Cryotek)

Man to me the TM2 beast Megs is so good. They have to do the Cryotek repaint. I hope they do at least lol. I think releasing it as a GS would be great and a good way for everyone to be able to get one.
Robogeek28
Top priority right here….
Fenrys
No, if anything it'll get repainted as Cryotek
jignat
Do you guys think he might be repainted I to RID 2001 /CR "Gigatron"?
HappyCryCat
Not snippy at all, but that's for the clarification to be on the safe side
I definitely am looking out for Kingdom Megs too. Only the Lord knows how many Ross's I've been to around LA…
Robogeek28
Don't worry, once he gets a package refresh this year he'll drop down a lot after a bit of time.
Patience is the key here.
Fenrys
Sorry if it came across a bit snippy, wasn't really the intention, but just to showcase its size, it's larger than Kingdom Megatron who was also a leader plus has significantly more points of articulation when you factor in both the neck and the tail and the wings

It was only my opinion, but both your counterarguments are valid. I will definitely take both into consideration.
Rakzo
Pretty damn fair since is one of the best Leader Class in recent years.
Someone could argue that he's even better than Kingdom Megatron.
Fenrys
Fair is irrelevant. It's a Leader Class figure (one of the larger ones in recent years) and that's the price of Leader Class figures.
HappyCryCat
This figure has been consistently $55 on Amazon. I hope we see a price drop some day as I can't see how $55 is fair for this figure.
