Courtesy of Hasbro designer Mark “Markclonus” Maher, via his Instagram account, we can share for you our first in-hand images of the new Transformers Legacy Deluxe Crankcase plus some concept art images of the toy. As usual, Mark has also shared some comments about the development of this figure. Read all about it below:
I hope everyone enjoyed watching this afternoon’s livestream, it felt great to finally show off Legacy Deluxe Crankcase!
When I saw the appearance of the Movieverse Crankcase I just had to find a way to release an update of this guy. I did love his appearance in the @idwpublishing but I felt the toy head would be the go instead of the halfway blown apart head like the comics.
Worked with Shu san in Takara on this partial of Legacy Skids mold and we went back and forth an awful lot about the trigger blasters. It was really challenging to fit the blasters with a blast compatibility and we are also wanted to keep the alt mode clean with the blasters hidden. It was a compromise in the end as I really wanted this character. I even had a rendition where the side fender compartments came off on a 5mm post to be added as ammo for the front grill blaster, but since this was a partial mold, we did our best to do the character justice within the cost alotted.
To note the silver op behind the grill was stripped to utilize those ops for the cool two tone decal on the back spare tire.
I will post some more in my story for a feature tidbit on this guy and I hope you really enjoy him!

Oh no I thought it was just me that got a QC lemon
Can’t pick the guy up or pose him without the whole backpack unraveling and the arms pulling apart. Soooo wish he just had ports or hardpoints on his shoulder cannons instead of what we got so you could customize and upgrade their length too
sephron13
Mine is the exact same.

This guy is kind of a mess, or maybe I got a bad one. Floppy blue struts under the very tight vehicle roof make getting the hips up in place extremely fiddly, and when I tried to peg the doors in place the tabs on the legs simply broke off with barely any force applied. And all that for a very underwhelming vehicle mode. Glad to have another Scavenger get a figure but he's best left on the shelf in robot mode for good, it seems.

Need help: my Crankcase came without his weapons and I'm seeing if Hasbro can ship me new ones, but they need some info. Where can I find Date code of Product on the figure? (they said its on both the packaging and the figure, and I kind of threw away the packaging)
I found the vendor code.
Vanya
If it existed, I don't think I'd say no.
god12342
all of wave 3 of legacy is out of stock on amazon right now

The altmode doesn't fit armada red alert, he's a lifted SUV. The skids/crankcase mold is extremely low to the ground
Treadshot 2.0
So, given that they already have a figure that looks more like Red Alert in both modes (the JP Jeep) that has not been remolded, why not remold that figure since remolds are so necessary? I totally get your logic and even agree with it. I just don't think it actually supports your position more than mine.
Now, in terms of the logic of why it wouldn't be a remold at all, and definitely why it wouldn't be a remold of Skids… Every other A/E/C character we've seen so far has been almost slavishly accurate. Why would they make new molds of Armada Hot Shot, Optimus, Megatron and Starscream but NOT Red Alert? Why would they not make Red Alert in proper scale to Hot Shot in a toyline that's basically OCD about scale?
Bass X0
It happens.
A new head, a new chest and a new light bar. That’s certainly possible given that they have done the same for “remolds of remolds” in the past”.
And unfortunately not every character is going to get their own new mold even if they had their own new mold originally. Reusing molds where possible is still a necessity.
Slimeformerzaa
Crankcase should be remolded or retooled into G2 Power Master Ironhide…
Treadshot 2.0
See, IRONFIST makes WAY more sense for this mold than Armada Red Alert and would require even less remolding.
SaberZ
I think he'd work better as a new mold
Personally I think they should turn Crankcase into Ironfist/Fisitron, especially if they're willing to put the same amount of effort they did into turning Skids into Crankcase
Might still be iffy, but I think it could work
Treadshot 2.0
Remolds OF remolds though? Crankcase IS a remold of Skids. I would feel you if you were asking about a toy that was actually an original mold…
Also, I did specify that a re-mold of the Jurassic Park vehicle would be more appropriate for the character of red alert in my opinion. So it doesn’t have to be an original mold, but I don’t think it should be this figure—again, itself a remold—remolded AGAIN.
Bass X0
Remolds still need to exist.
Treadshot 2.0
Not really. I would much rather see Armada red alert get his own unique mold, or at the very least be a remold of the Jurassic Park Jeep from the Amazon exclusive set
Bass X0
Would anyone want Crankcase remolded into Armada Red Alert? Along with a new head and lightbar, Crankcase’s robot chest would be remolded into a design resembling Cybertron Red Alert’s chest.

I’m really liking this toy. I had no problem with the Skids mold, although like others, I’ve had trouble getting the top tabbed in. This appears to be an improvement on that. If I had just one improvement I could have made to him, I’d have liked to have seen his shoulder cannons equipped with sliders so that they could extend. Otherwise, I really like how he came out. Crankcase is probably my most anticipated Deluxe figure for Wave 3 if for no other reason than to complete my IDW Scavengers!

The Grill Gun, Mark had some of the Tricranius set blast effects on it in the "Story" link he made to the BTS post. Looks like his "stories" are deleted now, as nothing comes up when I click his profile pic, though I thought I saw a screencap of it posted by someone way back in this thread?
IgnikaMarcus
Ah. Yes. I recognize the gun now.
Yeah, this mold would work quite well.

Ironfist, should've specified
