I dunno, but if I ever find him on local shelves or catch him at retail price* on Amazon, I'll let you know. Heck, I'll try the piledrivers with WfC Knok and Eject too.

People so focused on those elbows… Anyone notice how great his legs are?

I'm hoping we can get a new mold Soundwave, or at least a Marvel Soundwave. I don't think this Soundwave is as great as everyone seems to think, I believe it's closer to ER Ironhide…. In between definitive.

Can't wait to get this guy in-hand. And yeah, elbow joints would make him nigh-perfect.

My only real problem with SS86 Rumble so far is I haven't found him on local shelves yet.

And this I do agree with. It’s possible to add elbows in the design 100%. But theres a chance it may not be as structurally sound as Hasbro would like. Not to mention the what type of plastic used. They would need to be made of the harder nylon plastic, but then they would be unpaintable.

At the end of the day, Hasbro could not our elbows due to Budget and structural issues. That just the way the cookie crumbled. But we should be happy that for once, Hasbro said "hey, our old version is bad, so let's fix the paint!".

Your right that Newage’s Cassettes come in a $70 pack. But the reason they do is because there are three of them with a mini-Masterpiece Soundwave.

The Newage Cassettes are a fraction of the size of the official Cassettes, and make up a fraction of the cost in the set they are included it. Because other Newage figures the same size as Soundwave all cost the same as Soundwave. So it might almost be more fitting to say they don’t even factor into the cost at all.

For $10, elbows on SS Rumble are possible.

I don’t want to call the designer a liar, but the arguement that elbows aren’t possible do to the transformation kinda falls apart when you realize that the arms do nothing for Transformation.

The hands fold into the lower arm. Thats it.

Hands on those don't fold 180 degrees.

SS86 Rumble's hands fold partially into where the elbows would be.

Newage Rumble's hands don't fold in at all.

Different engineering goals result in different constraints. There's no comparison to be made when they all do things entirely differently.

I think the problem is really plastic quality, rigidity and assembly accuracy. Hasbro is working within the limits of the plastic durability and assembly acumen. Sure they could design double joints everywhere, but that would result in many quality issues down the line, examples include the recent Micromasters where most of the figures fell apart when you tried to pose or transform them.

I see your point, and that happens. But you shouldn’t assume I know nothing about the design process behind these figures.

I know more about designing figures then you would think, and I know how absolutely hard it is. I’ve worked on a few hardcore kitbashes and made designs of my own.

Granted, these aren’t engineered from the ground up by me, but they did have to be re-engineered slightly to function properly, and let me tell you that is no simple feat. Transfomers are designed only with enough tolerance for their design. Adding anything to that required a good deal of change. I’ve done other projects but I mostly stopped posting them after people started posting them on Reddit claiming them as their own.

I really wish I had a high quality 3D printer and a decent computer so I could model and print most of these designs. Recently, I bought a GI Joe scaled vehicle based on a M25 Dragon Wagon with plans to use it and several other donor figures to create a Joe scale WWII Optimus Prime, and if I had a 3D printer I’d be doing the same, too.

And speaking of 3D printing. I would not be surprised if after some time, someone makes proper arms for Rumble.

Then maybe it should have share engineering with Siege Rumble and had hands that only collapse partly. So that way room for an elbow joint would be there and the figure would not be compromised.

Then it would have had the same problem as the Siege mold with proportions because the legs would have to transform like the Siege mold so that there'd be space for the fists to fit into, so it'd still be compromised.
