Via Fat Toys Corner Facebook we have our possible first look at a new Canon x Transformers Optimus Prime Crossover.
Take this with a grain of salt until we get an official confirmation. We have a small image which show what seems to be a realistic Canon EOS R5 camera which is able to transform into an Optimus Prime inspired robot mode. We still have not much details but the image seems to be in the style of Takara Tomy promotional material. According to the text on the picture, we may see an official reveal this August 10.
Stay tune with TFW2005 for more updates! Let us know your impressions about this possible new crossover on the 2005 Boards!

The camera mode sure looks like the actual camera but in bot mode, they look all right, not really that ugly in my opinion, to each his own.

Has Reflector gone up for pre-order anywhere? I can't find it at any of the usual places.

Oooh AI research sounds like a super interesting job! I love Robert Miles' AI safety videos on Youtube!
I briefly looked into the Canon thing out of curiosity – oh yes it's pretty juicy and scandalous! Apparently a firmware update a couple of weeks ago mostly fixed it (according to this one guy at least) indicating/confirming it was never really overheating in the first place. Amusing all the hacks people have been coming up with the last two years to bypass this self-imposed not entirely to do with actual temperature limitation! At best some over conservative protection, at worst an evil conspiracy of intentional product crippling! Interesting stuff.
What?! Of course this is on topic – Optimus Prime overheating during transformation and shutting down is a big concern for people looking at this figure!

It was actually 6. Not my money, but on a research grant, so I can’t really play with them for personal use. IRL, I do AI research that requires multiple simultaneous camera/video views.
Canon is taking a lot of heat (pun intended) for their lack of testing and general silence on the issue. There was a firmware update, but it wasn’t very effective at fixing the problem. And we get angry about QC issues on $150 toys. Just think if that $3.5-4K camera was your livelihood as a photographer! I learned my lesson and will be using dedicated C70 cinema cameras for my next project (yeah, they’re Canon too, but I have too much Canon glass (lenses) to switch now).
I’m tempted to get one of these to set in the lab to see if any of my researchers pick it up and notice something odd. But not being 1:1 scale kinda kills the joy in that, as it would be super obvious.

Wow, this thing seriously has no ankle tilt. That's messed up for a figure this pricy.

I briefly misread this as “the realm of the camera” and imagined a sword-and-sorcery fantasy world with camera parts strewn across the countryside. Everyone would have camera-themed names, like “F-Stop the Sorceror” or “King Shutterbug.”

Wow that's nuts! I would have thought Canon would have tested it to death in some extreme conditions and easily spotted that one!!??? 80F isn't very extreme at all! FIVE!! Wow!

I find it funny that Canon chose the R5 as the camera for the alt mode. It is their flagship mirrorless body, but it has been plagued by severe overheating issues that essentially make it impossible to record 4K or 8K videos that are longer than 1 minute when ambient temps are 80F or higher. And, once you hit thermal shutdown, you can’t do anything with the unit until it cools off, including take pictures, which takes at least 30 minutes. I’ve experienced this firsthand. The issues are due to the way they sealed the body for moisture protection, but seemingly forgot to provide a heatsink connected to the body that can remove heat from the interior (a third party is offering to add a copper heatsink… for $400, and it voids the warranty). I bought five of them for a work project but wish I had gotten a different model. Check out YouTube. Some folks in Europe even want a class-action lawsuit because of it.

Too true. In fact, I have created a potential-for-collaboration meter.
There are two types of potential for figures in any form of Collaborative Line: Collaboration Potential and Figure Potential. "Collaboration Potential" Represents the potential that a collaboration between two groups. "Figure Potential" represents the potential that a collaboration between those 2 Groups could result in a figure.
Scoring the Potential of a Collaborative Figure is weighted more towards the Figure Potential. I mean, Terminator has a LOT of Collaboration Potential, but very little Figure Potential. Sure, Canon Cameras may not have much Collaboration Potential, but it does have enough Figure Potential that it gets a passing grade.
Ghostbusters (Ectotron) had pretty good of both "Collab Potential" and "Figure Potential". So did Back to the Future (Gigawatt). Top Gun (Maverick), X-Men (Ultimate X-Spanse), and Jurassic Park (Tyrannocon Rex and Autobot JP93) also had good "Collab potential" and "Figure Potential". Sure, J. Balvin (J. Balvintron, Energia Buzzsaw and Vibras Stripes) didn't really have good "Collab Potential" but did have enough "Figure Potential" to be made. Dracula/Universal Monsters (Draculus) was already being thought up, so it had good "Figure Potential", even though it may not have much "Collab Potential". G.I. Joe (Megatron H.I.S.S. Tank and Bumblebee A.W.E. Striker) had good of both kinds of Potenial. And Tonka (Tonkanator, made of Autobot Mega Dozer, Power Digger, Motor Load, Autobot Skyhook, Mega Hauler, and Motormix) had good "Figure Potential", but a bit weak when it comes to "Collab Potential".
Them rereleasing the Street Fighter II Collaboration Figures in the "Collaborative" Toyline is pretty much just because they wanted to rerelease them in the West.
But, side note, what ever happened to the Amazon X Transformers Figure?

Aye, I didn’t read it well enough… my bad. Thanks for the clarification.

…there is a Reflector. Did you read past the thread title?
Canon and HasTak think there'll be enough to enter in to this agreement. That's the entire purpose of collabs such as these. It's one of the big reasons MP works so hard to get the vehicle licenses for alt modes. Because the goal is to reach a wider audience by appealing to both fans of the franchise and fans of whatever it's collaborating with.
All of the 80s collabs like Gigawatt, Ectotron, etc are marketed two ways: One is "What if a Transformer turned in to this pop culture vehicle?" and the other is "What if this pop culture vehicle turned in to a robot?" Fans of the source material may want to have that figure as part of their personal collection tied to that franchise…while TF fans will be interested in the reverse.
There are people in Japan who are train fans and are very interested in the new MP Raiden because of how they focused on getting the train alts right and scaling with the popular sizes in that market. They may never buy another Transformer, but they spent money on this project…and now there's that extra bit of awareness that HasTak may tap in to at a later date.
Hell, that's why there's a Prime and a Reflector in the first place. Prime is the one they market to broader audiences with less awareness of Transformers. "Oh cool an Optimus that turns in to a camera? Neat!"
But then Reflector is there because they new people like us would go "Oh this would be a great opportunity for a Reflector collab." A character the average consumer will know fuck-all about.
Same reason the second Joe collab was Bee instead of the lesser known Hound (who if anyone would know would recognize as a Jeep) and the even lesser known Beachcomber (who would match alts but be an absolute nobody in the eyes of the average Joe buyer).

FWIW, I am curious what the demographics of actual sales will turn out to be. Not just "casual fans vs. die-hards" but "how many Optimuses sell vs. Reflectors?"

EDIT: Post removed for ignorance, lol.

This is very tempting since photography is also one of my hobbies only I shoot Sony and not Canon. Might still pick it up anyways because it's pretty cool to me.

The sticker on the torso looks way too shiny to be on the dark torso and I feel like this Collab is just unnecessarily unnecessary.

Looks great, I'm still thinking about it. Nice way to do the transformation while in one piece.
Mardroid
The realism of the camera mode is very impressive. Robot mode…. Okay. Basically a robot with a big lens in his chest, but to be expected. Doesn't look bad.
If I were to get either of these, I would feel more inclined towards Reflector for obvious reasons, but I really like the Optimus Prime colour scheme.
I think they need guns, but maybe the mini camera accessories are hidden guns, or that chest lens houses a massive laser thing.
lord ginrai
In the video they mention it is scaled down slightly to 80% of the real thing. Big enough to still feel realistic in hand.
Neo-Primus
Still terrible

Does anyone know how the hell I'm gonna get Reflector in the UK? Like do these takara tomy mall exclusives get sold anywhere else? I know someone said hasbro pulse, but in the UK we don't get shit from them either.
