Courtesy of Hasbro designer Mark “Markclonus” Maher, via his Instagram account, we can share for you our first in-hand images of the new Transformers Velocitron Cosmos plus some concept art images of the toy. As usual, Mark has also shared some comments about the development of this figure including the early idea of using the Buzzworthy Bumblebee Origin Bumblebee as a base for Cosmos. Read all about it below:
Do you believe?!?!Here he is folks, in all of his cybertronian glory! COSMOS!
Lets get into it! For capsule programs and the mainline as a whole, we have certain allocated funds for new molds. I wanted a Cosmos badly, to further finish the deluxe minibots collection, but just because I love this guy. His voice, design aesthetic, colors, and especially his alt mode are all 🔥
Swipe right and you will see how I sold him in as a partial tool using the Origins BB mold. He would of been more of a new rendition of him. I just didnt think a g1 version of him was possible with the tooling allocated. But TT made it happen All NEW in 3 molds!!!
Ittoku Kuwazu worked closely with Hasui Shogo in making this guy the best Cosmos evah! I chimed in on making the flag alt as a blaster and really worked hard on getting the proportions as close to his animation appearance as possible. As you can see from block model to final look, a lot had to happen. But with our great partnership this guy is ready to officiate the Speedia 500.
Let me know who you are routing for to become the new leader of Velocitron!!!

This thing was barely out in the US and then gone forever. It's another case of Netflix Soundwave, Earthrise Ramjet/Thrust, etc etc.

I am as well. Everything on eBay is the usual double/triple/more of the price before adding shipping costs.

Ditto. Kept hoping there'd be a restock, either locally or online.

Anyone here in the US still need a Cosmos?

I got that kit, too. Really fixes the gaping holes in the arms.

I just received a pair of these little guys and I love em! Then I found an upgrade kit that improves Cosmos by a lot! Color matching is really close! Highly recommend you pick up this kit.
Also, the kit has little tiny magnets that cling to the metal pegs to hold the flaps in place while in UFO mode.

despite the wonky vehicle mode, i am for sure picking this guy up when i get the chance.

Count me in with the many who think he looks decent enough in bot mode but his saucer looks like it’s been stretched in the wash. It’s a shame as he would be fine with a shorter torso, but it almost looks too elongated and the proportions in vehicle mode are thrown off as a result.
I’m torn in that I think he has a great robot mode and the UFO doesn’t look ‘bad’, it just doesn’t look particularly like Cosmos’ saucer.
Then there’s the Prime Wars Cosmos which is pretty decent but smaller, and not 100% accurate either (though I do prefer his UFO mode much more than the Velocitron version)

Love the robot mode but not a fan of the alt mode.

In some ways, I might have preferred the Bumblebee retool more. As much as I love the character himself, I have no particular attachment to his original toy and animation model.
I much prefer the most recent Legends scale figure of him as far as alt modes go. I just prefer flatter flying saucers.
I am still going to make an effort to get this toy, but I won't be heartbroken if someone more into G1 accuracy snaps him up before I do.
