If Tonkanator had been a redeco of the retooled Takara Unite version, I'd be preordering it immediately even at the likely $200+ price. But an actual G1 mold? No thanks, easy pass.

since it's 6 g1 molds that are the size of modern core classes and are surprisingly simple, I really can't see how it adds up aside from maybe the few tiny die-cast parts and the restored tooling costing significantly more than usual

It's not as easy as Hasbro just doing a collab. The negotiations are an ongoing process that clearly happen well out of the public eye. Since we don't get wind of these until they're products queued up and ready for purchase/PO. "Project Yellow" being a Tonka collab doesn't magically disqualify anything else from a future collab project. It just means this is one that has been successfully negotiated and produced.

I am just short of pulling the trigger on Tonkanator. But trying to justify how this fits in my collection is pretty darn hard now. It's hard to explain…vintage style figures are in my wheelhouse but I think it's the combination of price and branding slapped all over it that's holding me back. $105 is too steep for a figure that may never be opened and will just go on a shelf on display in package, probably.

My son, who loves Transformers, was also a big construction vehicle kid when he was little. He’s 8 now, but he’s always wanted Devastator so that’s an instant buy for me. The others look awesome so take my money Hasbro and Target!
