Coming to us once from PrimeVsPrime on Youtube, we now have new in-hand images of the upcoming Transformers Legacy Red Cog.
Red Cog is a new redeco of the Siege Weaponizer Cog mold but this time packaged with 5 blaster accessories with 7 interchangeable barrels and components inspired by weapons and accessories seen in the War For Cybertron cartoon, but you can also combine them in any way you like. We also have another look a the officially revealed “Double Blaster Weaponizer Mode” to power up Arcee (or the Elita-1 mold) as well as each of the new accessories. This figure will be a Target exclusive in the US.
Check it out after the jump and let us know if you’re interested in picking him up on the boards!

Look, it sucks that you love blast effects and I find them to be a waste of money and, therefore, you seem to take that as an insult.
But money budgeted towards other tools and pieces still takes away from the items people now want to "complete" their figures. Worse, they want them in battle packs which is just another way for consumers to spend money when they are already complaining about the current price of "incomplete" figures.
TFXProtector
I wonder how that even came to pass. Normally, a mold is reused and sold through various means. Generally, a lot of exclusives (not all) are repaints used elsewhere, first. This is one of those rare times a mold is exclusive to a retailer, first, and then might show up elsewhere later. (Although, as we've seen with Netflix figures, those are locked in contractual limbo for a while and we won't be seeing those anytime soon. Guess that's how Walmart was able to pull this off. They'll be the only place in the US to "officially" carry these. Of course Toy Dojo and the like will import them early.)
I'll be waiting to see what they do with these molds to get them outside of Walmart. Another oddity is Terrorsaur, both uses of his mold are exclusive with no "mass retail" release of it.
I'm seeing crazy things I haven't seen in a long time. (Last time there were exclusives like these were the mail aways of G1 where they never went to retail.)
I think exclusives will most likely be the source of figures (or a lot of them) going forward. Stores still haven't returned to pre-pandemic levels, people are now going back into discretionary spending levels, and it's just so much easier to order the stuff and have it delivered directly to your door/box. I'm surprised Hasbro hasn't made Pulse *the* source for all things Transformers. Instead of using retailers for exclusives, make them made to order. Things of that nature.

I\'m definitely hyped for this fig. Love the tribarreled shotgun.

Same! Oooh, a nice satin tan, that would look slickkkkk!
Magnus1701
I'm snatching this up as soon as I can. I would totally buy a green and tan version as well. Especially if they threw in more sets of mix-n-match gear!
GizmoTron
They did do better with exclusives a couple years ago during Earthrise. It didn't go over with most fans as well as you'd think.

…did you expect a Blast Master to come with Roller instead of an effects part.
and also do you realize Roller is like six effects parts, budgeted
Hicks_Royel
Yes, they are. Money spent making blast effects is money not in the budget for the things that people want in their accessory packs.
ScorponokIsHere
They balance things out across waves. That's why some figures receive more budget than others. If Wheeljack needs to be painted more because he has a rally deco, then maybe Ironworks will get less paint. Maybe Hoist is taller while Cliffjumper is smaller.
Effects parts are really limited to the Battlemasters et al and exclusive sets. They're not a good example of adding things to a toy in expense of other things.
YoungPrime
This is the only one out of the 4 pending Target exclusives that's worth a damn to me and even that's not something I'm all that excited for and it's just the guns for probably a Voyager class price tag. Making it the weakest link (Walmart's Velocitron set being first and Amazon's Wreck 'N Rule being 2nd). So yeah, Hasbro could've done a lot better with most of these retail and online exclusives.

Do we know a street date for Red Cog?
Neko-bot77
Red Cog is actually the best sort of weapons pack if you think about it. The weapons exist in the cannon of the WFC series, yet aren't iconic enough to cause mass hysteria for not being included with the figures. Just some fun add-on weapons to add to your collection.
See Legacy Skywarp for what budget allows for weapons
Foster
Well, in reality there are reasons, but they're not going to share internal budgets with the public where their competitors can see it.
Hicks_Royel
I think the true irony of that we bitch about the ongoing increase in price and then suggest giving them ways of having us spend even more money to "complete" the figure. When, in reality, there's no reason they couldn't include those small pieces per figure in the first place. No weapons pack required.
Foster
We've seen from concept drawings and designer commentary that they plan big, and then trim back to meet the budget.
If it comes down to a decision between eliminating accessories or eliminating figure parts or articulation, I'd rather see one of two character weapons cut, but put behind an accessories pack paywall, than not be made at all.
Seanprime
Yeah I’m completely good with it as long as it’s giving us extra stuff we wouldn’t have ever gotten in the first place and not let’s hold this thing back to sell it to us separately
Neko-bot77
I'm just saying, be careful what you wish for.

I was really just using blast effects in a sarcastic manner about wasted money within the toy line's budget. It's no secret that not every figure is treated equally in regard to money put into it before it hits the shelves. They may try to "balance things out" so you feel you are getting your money's worth but that doesn't really happen, does it?
Seanprime
I mean let’s be real, we are willing to pay for weapons packs lol. Just look at all the weapons kits etc from 3P that we buy. If official additional weapons started being sold we’d buy them. I would say that core accessories should be with the figures but those additional say a character only used in an episode or 2 type accessories those could be something in a weapon pack for example
