Fire in the sky! Takara Tomy have officially revealed the latest installment in the Masterpiece line: MP-57 via Takara Tomy Mall website. Skyfire is coming in hot!
This amazing cartoon-accurate Skyfire mold will be released as a Takara Tomy Mall exclusive for the Japanese market, priced 38500 Yen (about $296.00) and scheduled for release in late January 2023. There’s a limited reservation period from June 3rd to August 5th 2022. Read on for details and highlight from the images and information from the Japanese listing:
- Design inspired by the G1 cartoon.
- 35 cm tall. We have comparison shots next to Masterpiece MP-44 Optimus Prime, MP-27 Ironhide and MP-45 Bumblebee 2.0 and MP-52 Starscream 2.0. Quite a tall figure for sure.
- Designed by veteran Takara Tomy designer Kojin Ono.
- Includes a rifle, stand, 3 interchangeable faces (one of them, G1 toy inspired mask), two big blast effects, Autobot and Decepticon plates (inspired by the classic scene in the “Fire In The Sky” episode) and three mini-figures of Optimus Prime, Wheeljack and Jazz.
- The aforementioned mini-figures are articulated and planned to work in the right scale for Skyfire’s jet mode. They fit inside the cockpit and other section of the jet.
- Alt mode can still extend the robot arms and legs while transformed as seen in the G1 cartoon.

I'm very impressed by this one. My faith in TT MP's is restored.

We also have MP Raiden who Takara themselves said is meant to scale with UW, a chug line.

Well the bigger the bot the more easy it is to fit it in to different lines. Like the Titan Class Combiners/Citybots or for many so far Siege Jetfire. So having a direct comparison will probably make it easier to convince people who have Siege Jetfire as a stand-in to make the switch.

Although even if Takara or a reviewer doesn't show it, a google search shows that many of already found how they will most likely scale next to each other, as well as using FT's verison since he will be around the sa

Welp, guess the whole height debate is settled! This is the Skyfire I've been waiting for!

This Skyfire is definitely earning its keep as a masterpiece. Unfortunately, I fell out of love with its design as I grew older. The bot mode is great, no complaints. But the alt mode is meh. Personally, it's just plain fugly as the years roll on (ie. it didn't age well), basically a giant block with wings attached. Not anyone's fault, it's exactly how it was drawn and animated in the series. After reconnecting with Macross and their valkyrie designs, I can't fathom ever getting or owning Skyfire as it's just not aesthetically pleasing in my view anymore. As a kid I would have leaped ecstatically with joy. But alas, that time has come and gone.
But glad that it's being made and those that have an attachment to the character can finally get it. It's long overdue.

Considering the definitions of the words weren’t made for toys in the first place, they’re being used about as correctly as they can be.
Liampope
It's not technically correct at all. Neither third party nor fourth party are being used technically correctly. That's probably why some people get triggered. I don't really care.

not really when it comes to the big things sometimes a masterpiece fits better than the limited price points of the regular lines look at star saber he can fit on any shelf, i used the original mp grimlock on my shelf for years as my go to version next to the original classics optimus prime, heck if studio series 86 wasnt so good he would still be there

Watching that video has me hyped even more for MP 57. Nice to see TT didn't over engineer him. His transformation is simple, straightforward, and elegant. Does not bother me that he doesn't have waist swivel. I find you can still get some great dynamic poses without one. Now for the long six month wait.
Napalm
Well we sure as hell took to it. Along with 4th party too. Anyway, I dunno why I'm getting wound up with this (probably five days in the same room is getting to me), I buy it all anyway

TT is OCD with curves.

you do know that the transformer fandom didn't coin the term 3rd party for unlicensed products yes?

They probably understand it's pointless to compare products from different lines.

I wish they didn't leave that part behind the cockpit hollow. It's a little unsightly. They could have saved plastic by having a rotating faction symbol like the Siege toy and used that plastic to cover the side.
Also, the lack of any waist articulation is disappointing. I would definitely take a fake nose cone for some waist rotation and ab crunch.
octobotimus
It’s just another name for KO’s and is technically correct, idk why people get triggered by its use. Official figures are technically 1st party, 3rd party are originally molds, 4th party is apparently KO’s. It’s just a differentiation.
Ironically this post almost comes off as you being mad.
jackisking
Because 3rd party implies some kind of legitimacy as product, versus companies that have to go into hiding or change their box art to look a box of male enhancement pills you pick up at the gas station because they are afraid Hasbro is looking in their direction.
maltesefalcon
why they dont show him next to the commander class i never get, show off both lines and you will make more sales
Napalm
I know, right? Almost as stupid as the fandom taking to calling the unlicensed use of Transformers likenesses third party as well.
