For those that missed out on the Transformers X Top Gun Maverick collaboration figure, good news. Walmart will be exclusively re-releasing the figure for pre-order on July 21st, 2022. This is the first day of SDCC 2022, which is based in San Diego where a lot of the original and assuming new movie takes place. No word yet on price or ship dates, stay tuned for more information as it pops!
Transformers: Collaborative: Top Gun Mash-Up, Maverick Robot
(Ages 8 and Up/ Approx. Retail Price: $44.99/ Available: October 2022)
Worlds collide in this TRANSFORMERS-Top Gun mash-up pack! The iconic Grumman F-14 Tomcat jet from the original Top Gun film is a TRANSFORMERS robot, called MAVERICK (not to be confused with that other guy)! Who makes a better wingman than a TRANSFORMERS robot? MAVERICK stands at 7 inches in robot mode and can convert from robot to classic Grumman F-14 Tomcat jet mode in 25 steps. He includes a screen-inspired miniature motorcycle accessory. This bot is always ready to go vertical in jet mode. This Maverick robot figure also features folding jet wings, movie-inspired details, a helmet design inspired by the 2022 Top Gun: Maverick film, and 4 missile accessories that can be mounted on the figure’s arms in robot mode, and under wings in jet mode.
TRANSFORMERS robots have always been MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE, but now, through the TRANSFORMERS Collaborative, fans can experience these larger than life characters as they team-up, mash-up, and meet up with other characters, teams, and people who share this same special quality. Available for pre-order July 21 exclusively at Walmart.com (link not active yet).

It was reissued when the movie was finally released, to capitalize off the whole reason it exists. Having it out when the movie came out probably helped with the casual movie goer who may have a kid that wants “the jet from the movie!”

I don’t understand why was this figure reissued. The figure is not good at all. Hasbro makes some weird movements, just like to reissue Laser Prime, why? Why to pay 55$ in the reissue if you can find the first version under 40$?

I got to mess with the figure for the first time recently. Love the jet. Hate the robot. Thankfully I enjoy customizing transformers. Because this one is practically begging for it.
DracoPrimal
I got Maverick way back when, but this would have been a GREAT deal. I recently made another acquisiton… just reminded me of the couldda wouldda shouldda for Maverick

Really hate that I missed this. A couple of weeks ago I was looking at pricing and just balked. How I didn't see this thread on Friday is beyond me; $25 is a very good price.
Shin Densetsu
It was proposed for Tomcat 21 and other variants
BATTLEMASTER
How about that – that explains why there's a weird division in the canopy glass over the pilot's seat. Pretty smart reuse of parts!
I think if the Tomcat were retained in service by the Navy it would probably have an updated canopy anyway – the original windshield frame impairs forward vision.

For the love of god guys stop paying shipping on your walmart orders. Just include a preorder with your order then cancel it after completing it.
Here's my go to preorder fodder atm: Robot or human?
imfallenangel
Damn, for that 25$ price, even with conversion and if decent shipping, I'd have gotten a few extras… it's a fantastic mold.
Not perfect but one of the best jets I think that Hasbro has done in forever.
Shin Densetsu
It’s because it reuses the canopy section from Earthrise Starscream which lacks it
BATTLEMASTER
I just realized something that was omitted that I wonder whether Northrop Grumman knew about… The windshield on Maverick is missing the flat vertical oval glass pane. Oddly enough, the Classics Starscream mold has it even though the F-15 never had a windshield like that… I guess the trade was actually made years ago!

Oh, so it was even cheaper before their currently advertised sale? Cool, that extra $5 would be nice but $25 is liveable.
BATTLEMASTER
Ordered it from Walmart on 10/11 for $20. It would've been $6 to ship if I didn't have another $15 of stuff on that order.
Slave IV
So I didn’t open it yet but eyed it next to a diecast 1/72 F-14 I have and it looks really close. Maybe the Transformer is slightly smaller but it can definitely pass and be considered 1/72.
But where are people getting it for $20? I thought it was a Walmart exclusive and their sale on it is $25.
Optimus1138
I know lol, I've been waiting for them to retool him into Jetfire ever since he was announced. I did preorder that Macross KO painted in Jetfire colors so hopefully that'll scratch the super-toy-accurate-Jetfire itch, but I still need a CHUG-style version of him that fits in with modern figures better than Classics or T30 and isn't huge like Siege.
Optimus1138
I wish they'd made that one at proper CHUG scale and incorporated some iconic pieces of vehicle kibble into the robot mode in a more attractive way than 'leave random bits of the front bumper hanging off his shoulders'. He should've just been a fully new mold, I don't think there are any existing Deluxe or small Voyager molds that have the right proportions to turn into a car shaped like that.
Godzilla Ranger
I’m tempted too, but the design/ engineering does not look good and I don’t much care for Top Gun
I wish they reissued the Ghostbusters collaborative lol
kmopotato
Man you got Jetfire as your pf and maverick can do the gerwalk, you gotta do it
Optimus1138
I was pretty tempted but even at $20 I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on him. I'm trying to only buy either characters or designs I really want to save space, and the plastic and paint and weird legs just turn me off too much. It's such a shame, so many of the Collaborative figures could have been so great, and they've almost all managed to miss the mark in some way.
Ceerad
Yeah, he's the only movie crossover I didn't get because I couldn't justify the original price for the deco quality and overly simplistic design and engineering of the figure. But at Deluxe price? Oh hell yes!
