Today, May 8th 2022, marks the 38th anniversary of the release of the first issue of Marvel’s The Transformers comic. The very first stone in The Transformers history.
As of today, the franchise has brought cartoons, comics, movies and a lot of toys for different generations of fans. As a small tribute, via the The Sunbow Marvel Archive website, we can share for you the storyboards of the very first Marvel Comics’ The Transformers issue 1 commercial. Produced so early that none of the characters featured in the video even had names.
You can read the full storyboard here or as individual images after the jump together with a video of the aforementioned commercial.
It’s been a long trip, but we all know that The Transformers will return after these messages for more years to come. Till’ all are one!

The design for the Seeker's handheld gun appears to come directly from Diaclone artwork. This demonstrates how the often maligned "Sunbow style" is just an extension of Takara's pre-Diaclone art.

Posting a snippet since the full image files are too big for attachment. Also at the archive is a reproduction (courtesy of TheRoboplasticApocalypse) of Jim Shooter's original 8-page treatment that started everything. With something familiar yet not about this profile…

Thundershot
I’ve posted this in other threads, but I hope we get for the 40th anniversary some Marvel decoed toys. A two pack Marvel Ratchet vs Megatron would be sweet!
edit: Oh, good. The thread has been pruned.
Happy Miracle
Fun fact to celebrate 38 years of Transforming-robot actions; here are the ten titles Hasbro considered (and rejected) before opting for The Transformers!
1. The Changebots
2. Robomorphs
3. Exciting Diakron
4. Multiple Conversion Steps
5. Optimus Prime and his Car-shaped Sons
6. RoboCar Action Team
7. Mechanitrons
8. Watch out for those horrible Cyberwarriors!
9. Construction Workers Must Die!
10. The Challenge of the Go-Bots

boy I remember seeing that commercial on tv and it looked nothing like any of the other animated cartoons on the air at the time so it immediately grabbed my interest…
I was an avid comic book reader so I definitely was keeping an eye out for the book to hit the stores…
I do remember seeing the GIJOE comic commercial, and while I wasn't quite onboard yet (which one of these guys is supposed to be Joe? He's the leader, right?) I knew this was going to be even better (robots that turned into cars and planes, that carried bazookas and fired laser rays??!!)…
back then it was purely luck to find things at newstands, but by then I was picking up books at local comic book stores so information was a little bit easier to come by…
I do remember recruiting my younger brothers friends, telling them to let me know if they wanted me to buy a copy for them when it came out…
