Fans Toys is being pretty active with updates recently. Following the new images of their new FT-48 Jive (Masterpiece Scaled G1 Jazz), now they are treating fans with images of the color prototype of their FT-49 Phantasm (Masterpiece Scaled G1 Mirage).
Once again, Fans Toys is bringing a very cartoon-accurate design for the Masterpiece scale. Phantasm/Mirage will include 2 interchangeable faces (cartoon and toy inspired) and a detailed and realistic alt mode. We also have comparison shots next to other Fans Toys Autobot cars for you to see how the scale works between them.
Check all the images after the break and then share your impressions about this figure on the 2005 Boards!

I was about to say the same.
I really wish they do.
For now a Toyhaxed MMC one is my definitive alt mode.

My body is ready!

With that X version of Jive just announced, I'm hoping beyond hope that there's an X version for Phantasm on the way too!

I was in the Transform Element camp for ages but I am the opposite as soon as I got this the TE version has been boxed up and I much prefer the blocky torso to the gappy torso , I prefer the head and facesculpt , never been a huge fan of the TE facesculpt , the back looks better … all in looks like it cleans up better to me and wish I had bought it earlier
TE is a great looking solid figure which is why it took me a while to grap the fanstoys version but no doubt this will get sold when takara make him

I'm desperate for a G1 MP Mirage and a better Jazz (Hova is OK, but lacks polish) and I'm more than happy to dump money on Fanstoys products and yet for some reason I've never been that tempted by Plantasm or Jive. I think those two characters, more than most, need some PERSONALITY and FT don't always do well in that department. It's a tricky thing to define but if it's missing it can bring a great looking figure in all other departments right the way down.
FT get away with it with their minibots and with 'stoic' or 'neutral' figures like Phoenix or their Astrotrain, and occasionally they do knock it out of the park (looking at Blaster right now) but, like I say, on their carbots something just seems to be missing. For me anyway.
(also goes without saying that mouthplates give them a massive OUT in this department so their Soundwave and Powerglide get automatic passes).

I like Phantasm quite a bit. I think FT have built up such a reputation that it's just impossible to satisfy people, especially for what they charge. If they made an Arcee 2.0 people wouldn't be happy unless she could blow them. I only wish FT Jazz's transformation was as problem free as their Mirage.

I love Fans Toys but I just think the TE Mirage just looks better, so I have him on the shelf and FT in the box. The grey face, the silver blaster, the consistent white across the figure, it's the only time for me FT wasn't an upgrade.

To me, it's like… do you want pancakes or waffles?
I still have sphinx out cuz he looks better with the older style mp carbots *shrug*
Johnny Wishbone
I like his transformation quite a bit, but otherwise he was a massive disappointment for me. Anorexic sculpt, boring colors, limited articulation, one of my least favorite FT releases by far.
Dodgy Dan
Right, been upgrading the (never ending horde of) carbots recently, and I picked up Phantasm for a good price. But… Is anyone else not that impressed with this guy?

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice figure; lovely metallic blue paint, surprisingly simple and intuitive transformation and an excellent car mode, but there's something off about it… I think it's the "meh" face sculpt and the two-tone, blocky chest area that looks a bit messy. The TE version, despite not being as polished or as toon accurate, has a great use of silver to break up the colour scheme. I did pop on the alternate head after the pic was taken and I like the rounder option; it stops his head blending in with the back piece so much, but still…
Ehhh, I don't know. I'll keep Phantasmagoria on the shelf for a bit and see if he grows on me, but TE isn't getting sold off just yet.

Okay I caved and got it. Who wants a DS Speed Star? Very good price!
deathsheadII
got it today …for the most part you think you were happy with a figure until you get the takara version or a fanstoys version … this is one of those
deathsheadII
I bought the original ocular max twice and sold it both times when there was a takara rumour that never happened and then bought the more cartoon deco and then sold it for the ds version
Criggity
I'm still so very torn on getting this and selling my TE or holding that one. I really can't decide, and I only like to have one of each character at each scale (except Optimus)
Boost Lee
Same! I swore I was happy with my Ocular Max one but he was in stock along with FT Blaster so I figured why not get both and save on shipping.
deathsheadII
I finally caved in and bought one of these
CyclonuS_ZerO
Most definitely.
Legion9186
Is this guy worth the 159.99 BBTS is asking for it? I'm thinking on getting him
Gaius Freeman
Eventually, but I have some other display changes to make first. Don't hold your breath, but knowing you're interested, I'll try for sooner.

TE is better for me
