It is the year 2005… wait a minute. How did it get to be 2021? Anyway. We are now 16 years past the 19 years into the future that was 2005 – in the 86 movie. And boy has it been a ride. Even back when I started TFW2005 21 years ago, and a decade after that, and almost a decade after THAT – I never thought what is inside this article would ever exist. A massive, gigantic, big, huge, diesel, heavy, spiky, fully transforming, completely round, Unicron. But it does, and it’s here, and I photographed it. And it’s on my shelf now.
I was going to do a full on review, super wordy, rare for me. Take comparison pics galore. Talk about the history of the character and toys he’s had over the years. After it hit April 1, that was off the table. Then I was going to do a full on bitch fest post about how the shipping was handled, since that was like eating spoonfuls of salt for like 2 months. Now, I’m doing neither. It’s been in the hands of collectors since February. And a significant chunk of US folks now have him too. There are 1700+ pages of discussion on the big guy here. A pretty fun appreciation thread here. Tons of videos, pics, and thoughts here on TFW2005 and around the web. If you want to dig in, go for it.
I enjoy doing photography, it’s been my way to “play” with these guys for the last 10 years or so. So even though this isn’t hot off the presses, wanted to give him a run. I thought it would be the most challenging figure I’ve shot, and I was right. Both at a basic and fancy pants level, mainly because he’s just SO FRIGGIN BIG! Wanted to see if I could do it, and I think they came out good. So, if you want to see some pretty shots of the big guy one more time, read on to check out the highlights in this article, or head on over to the gallery system on TFW2005 for over 135 HD pics.

Aside from logistics at the end and that one paint change – it’s an impressive piece and I dig it. I’d like to thank the Hasbro team for taking a chance on it and getting it done. It’s a centerpiece, a true centerpiece, to a 30+ year run of being a fan.

I still can’t get over how much presence this guy has in planet mode… just awe inspiring!! The rings make him come across as even more massive!

Yeah agree and disagree. I got in for the crowdfund (and should have purchased 2!)
the shell forming definitively has its pros and cons. And agree a by product of the shell forming is a bulkier figure (more presence).

The backpack is tremendous but I think it adds to how bulky the figure looks and I quite like that.

A bit late to this but my god this has to be one of my favorite looking pieces. I'm completely willing to buy one of these even now for over 1k and that has to say something about how impressive the figure is.

Thanks
The list I found said it was made by krylon… but I guess that was an error?
I've seen some on YouTube use tamiya for transformer customizations. If I can find a close match in a spray I'd give it a shot.
In the meantime
6-pack has changed a little direction. Decided to go with a combination of the ab delete and ab shell. I like how the design is going but my prints keep screwing up. Try try try again
