Picked up a copy of The Japanese Collection from Amazon. Disc 1 of Headmasters is defective. Half of episode 3 won't play. Found a small pin head sized bump on the underside of the disc. Already requested a replacement and it will be here Wednesday.

I used to edit them. So it was a nice way to earn extra cash between other video editing gigs. I’d be lucky to get half my rate cutting anything for a blu ray now.

Shame. Extras are part of what got me wanting to build a DVD collection to begin with!

It varies. Printed comic (especially graphic novels) sales have gone up. Some movies and shows kill in physical media others don’t. If sales don’t match the cost of the rights and cost of production less stuff will be available on physical media. Hasbro has full Transformers shows on free streaming services like Tubi and Youtube so that probably hurts Shouts sales.
it’s expensive unfortunately. that’s why most extras are just from the EP Kits from the theatrical marketing team. You won’t see gems like that amazing uncensored “making of..” documentary on the Phantom Menace DVD or the extras from the LOTR dvds.

I've been wanting to see the Shout remasters of Transformers but I don't have a Region 1 player. The licence holder here in the UK is (or was) Metrodome and their release was almost 20 years ago now and is pretty awful. Hopefully whoever takes on the licence (if Shout are going to let it expire) also includes the UK next time.

The last time I ordered from them it took forever to get my DVD\'s Better options are best Buy and target.

They have several titles that they put a slash though the original price, but have the sale price remain the same as the OG price…

Physical media for DVDs could be salvaged with enough extras, commentaries, and what have ya.

Yes, I received a grim reminder of that when I lost power in the Texas Snowmageddon for a day and a half. Thank goodness I still had my books or I would have went nuts.

Never said books. Books will surpass all. Books aren't on their way back because they never went on hiatus. Comics are still widely produced and comic shop are still thriving thanks to print media.
But movies? Shows? Days of DVD collections will inevitably end. Less space, less "stuff" to hoard.

I never figured books would ever go away. they don't need the internet, power, to be booted up. They're just there. Open it up and start reading.

Physical media won't pass on anytime soon. Did you not know that BOOKS yes BOOKS are on the way back in due to their wide availability & cheap cost? Here I thought paper was supposed to have been gone by 2000…How did that work out?
Omegax80
Physical media seems like is slowly dying. Very slowly.

They have a bunch of stuff on streaming. I think they are done with physical media.
It’s not clearing stock thing so much as we are not spending the money to extend the rights on this so this your last chance to get a copy from us thing.
Omegax80
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Another company, maybe even Hasbro themselves will release newer versions.

If it’s going out of print they don’t need to put it on sale. People will buy from them especially when the sell out at other retailers. Amazon doesn’t need as high of a profit margin as Shout factory so they can discount whatever they want.

I bought the complete G1 set from these guys back in September when it was only available directly from them. The content is what you'd expect, but to be honest, I think they did a pretty terrible job with everything else. The cardboard holder for the DVD cases is super thin and flimsy. All of the cases fall out immediately when you pick it up. The little multi-disk trays in the cases seem to be randomly mixed and matched (…why?) meaning they tend to fall out of the cases when opened.
It's funny, because before getting this, I'd accidentally purchased a counterfeit of the same box set from eBay, and aside from the disks being fake and overly compressed, everything else was wayyyyy better quality. Everyone I showed them to thought the real copy was the counterfeit – ha!
Recently I bought Beast Wars Season 1 from them through Amazon, and there was a gash across the back of the DVD case even though it was still sealed (apparently this is common, wtf?). The case couldn't close properly because, again, they mixed and matched random multi-disk trays that didn't line up properly. And of course, they all fell out as soon as I opened the case. I ended up returning it and purchasing a used copy of seasons 1, 2, and 3 elsewhere that I'm guessing was years old and built much better.
I asked Shout!Factory wtf is going on here and I never got a response. How the hell this is all considered acceptable to ship to a customer baffles me. I'm guessing this is a new cost-cutting tactic that some idiot in charge thinks we're all too dumb to notice.

We're not forgetting. The devil is in the details, and Disney may well still have the rights to RiD. While Saban bought back a lot of the properties Disney had previously bought from them, it apparently wasn't all of them, and there's never been any indication that RiD was one that Saban got back.

Ill stick with the OG english dub versions. I hate sub-titles. It kills the vibe. I could vare less if they got a few characters names wrong. I know who they are.
