You'll have to excuse me, but I never meant to discredit Takara's excellent work on the Masterpiece line. Most of the figures they put out in it have absolutely superb sculpts, and incredible articulation as well. Nevertheless, I still cannot bring myself to pay upwards of $300 for one figure, regardless of the quality and accessories. Of course this is all just personal preference, since plenty of people out there would gladly shell out the cash to buy the official Takara product; it's all about perspective and personal taste. Extremely condescending attitude aside, you make a very valid point, but I would still recommend being respectful of the buying habits and opinions of the other Transformers fans out there that maybe don't have as much spending cash.

*sigh*
Once again, people do not understand. Someone that make KO’s, no matter the supposed “improvements” or cost savings, are stealing someone else’s work for personal gain. If it wasn’t for Takara putting in the resources for R&D, prototyping, molds, and production you would have never gotten that toy, because it wouldn’t exist to be stolen from. That is why it is 300+. This is also why people buy them because they want the original producers to make new items using the same resources. But hey, keep buying inferior crap from shady business men.

Yes please, do let us know once you get it.
I'm very curious.
I don't care for voice chips so that's not a deal breaker for me.
What counts most is : good quality plastics and paint apps, tight joints and low price.
If your copy aces all that, then we're in business
P.S. I wonder if recent batches of MetailBeast-01 have better QC ?

I mean, that just further drives my point home. Stuff that originated outside BW didn't catch on until BW came and pushed it in to the big time.

Good, it's a filthy habit. Don't be a Twitter addict like me!

I dont have, nor will I ever use twitter

Actually it was late G2 that started all that. There's even a direct line from the cancelled flip-changers (which later turned up in Machine Wars, RID, BW2, etc) to the early Basic class figures in BW. But everyone remembers Beast Wars first because it has a show.
Magneme
I just bought mine recently, so it hasn't actually come in the mail just yet, but I'll be sure to report back once I have it. BUT the company claims that the figure is an improvement over the original in some regards, with stronger joints and some of the more breakable parts reinforced, though I think the biggie is a better waist joint. The Version 2 (or maybe the Version 1 and 2, I forget) of the figure also has a voice chip with sounds from the American version of Beast Wars, so you can get some classic David Kaye goodness with your big purple T-Rex. Though personally I don't even really care if my copy has a few QC issues considering it only cost a THIRD of what Takara is trying to sell it for.

Heh, I forgot about this series entirely.

About that, how's the quality on the KO MP BW Megs?
I've heard reports saying the quality is better than the official release?
Is that true? Like, tighter joints?
How is your copy?
Thanks!

I have to say that while Beast Wars' animation can be quite frankly nauseating at times, I do still enjoy it for what is it, to the point where I just dropped $100 on a KO of the Masterpiece Beast Wars Megatron figure. At this rate there's very little reason to purchase authentic Masterpiece figures when there's almost always a far cheaper counterpart of it out there. Takara definitely has it in them to sculpt fantastic looking figures that are super accurate, but it will never justify the price of admission for me. Then again, that's just me, no doubt plenty of folks swear by Takara and their engineering.

What are you going on about? BW toys were the beginning of modern engineering. You can draw a straight line from BW to RiD to Generations and WfC.
Even the UT, regardless of what you think, borrowed elements from BW in terms of design/engineering.

The whole 80s Marvel run is excellent.
Both US and UK lines.
I really liked US Marvel Gen 2 comics as well. Too bad it lasted only 12 issues.
Dreamwave had some interesting ones but after it imploded I had big hopes for IDW but I quickly realized my TFs comic days were over.
Thankfully, I got all my old Marvel comics and read them often.
And while I read them, I silently smile as I bask in the warm glow of retro goodness, back when everyone involved cared about creating magic.
P.S. Even the old ads are a hoot

Thanks man
For the life of me, I don't understand why Hasbro doesn't care more about creating high quality story telling, in any format.
If it were for the transforming gimmick alone, the toy line would have disappeared a long time ago.
Proof : The most beloved G1 characters existed in toy forms either under Microman or Diaclone long before "Transformers" came to be. They sold ok in Japan but when Hasbro created the world of Transformers, giving each toy personas, deep backgrounds, the place where they came from, etc. then it truly became a worldwide phenomena.
Without those stories and characters tech specs, it would have remained a Japanese thing.
On a lesser extent, during G2, there was no new show and the toy line didn't do well either.
Then Beast Wars came, with a cool new show, stellar writing, and, most importantly, BUILD on top and EXPANDED G1 in many significant ways.
So, as cool as a toy can be, without good storylines, either in tv, comics or otherwise, it will falter rapidly.
Too bad the powers that be don't care more about the legacy of good storylines, scripts and ideas that expands the TFs universe.

I've never cracked open a Transformers comic in my LIFE, but I still get endless enjoyment from this thread. Thank you.
Rojixus
YES! I only regret I can't like this post more than once!
Greenspan
Absolutely.
The whole Beast Wars era, the show, the toys, was FAN-TAS-TIC.
Show = Stellar writing and voice acting.
Toys = Superb designs, high quality plastics, awesome packaging WITH good tech specs.
Then Beast Machines grinded everything to a halt.
And Hasbro never bothered to go back to the heydays of BW quality in terms of show and toys.
P.S. Masterpieces were a good exception, at the start. So, those of us who supported the line in the beginning, hoping to get, let's say, MP Galvatron one day, were left high and dry only to see better Optimuses being made and vastly more expensive. Now we hardly get new stuff but infinite repaints. Worse, they priced out a lot of folks. You have to sell a kidney to get MP Beast Wars Megs or Lio Convoy.

The actual fuck are you on about again?
Not everything is about the movies and not everything about the movies where good.
The live action designs where "realistic" because the people at ILM made them look like they where there.
The designs themselves are just another interpretation and can't be anymore realistic as say IDW until you meet actual shapeshifting metal aliens to verify this.
