Digital artist Rob Wiggins, via his ArtStation, has uploaded some images of his Transformers Beast Wars film Cheetor early concept art.
News about a new Beast Wars film has been reported before, but we haven’t had any real details about it. Rob Wiggins surprised us with his Cheetor designs in beast mode and the robot mode torso. Keep in mind that it is stated that these are very early renders and ideas from some time ago and not something that we could consider a final design. In any case, it’s interesting to see how this movie may evolve into production.
See all the mirrored images attached to this news post after the break and then sound off on the 2005 Board!

Animal mode sick, bot mode terrible

This is old art? Waste of my time.
Anyway that Cheetor looks ok in beast mode, but has a lousy robot mode. HR Giger could make that mode more beautiful.

Weird thread bump

Get ready to see this in the upcoming film on June 2022! (or December 2022, hehe.)

The design seems lazy to me.
Have a nice day, ALL of you. Lol. Jesus.
Meh, at least we can agree that it’s a shitty design.

That didn't stop the Bayverse from making billions off new faces with G1 names.

Everything you said makes it a bad design. But it doesn't make it a lazy design. Clearly, this was imagined from nothing. It didn't 1:1 anything, not even the source material.
But you would seem to be happier if it was 1:1 to Cheetor? Based on your responses, I mean.
You're also getting defensive for no reason. But if you want me to get over it, sure.
Not coming up with a better word than lazy when there are plenty of other words that can be used is just… lazy.

To be fair, this seems to be more like an early draft of a possible look for the character than a finished design. This was done by the same guy who did that early VW Bumblebee concept art. I don't think these designs were ever intended to be used as the final designs, just springboards for how the character could possibly end up looking. I personally find them ugly as heck, but they're not supposed to be pretty works of art. They're almost like rough sketches. Rough sketches don't have as much work put into them as finished drawings, but that doesn't mean they're lazy…they're just a different thing. I'm sure this artist did the best with the limited time and resources he had available. I don't particularly like his style, but I don't see any signs of laziness.
SPLIT LIP
Your definition of lazy makes no sense, though, because the design is quite detailed and clearly made with a lot of effort. It just looks nothing like Cheetor nor does it evoke the character in any possible way.
Misguided maybe is the better word, or even just plain inaccurate. There was no lack of effort or skill at play in designing this mechanical cheetah and abstract robot, they just look nothing at all what they should.
So, yeah, it just looks like you’re calling it lazy because you don’t like it, as if you need some objective reason when just saying you dislike it is plenty enough. I dislike it, I think it’s a terrible interpretation of the character, but I reserve terms like “lazy” for thoughtless, bland things like that Straxus redesign. (Oooooooh sheeeit)
Xformermike
The way in which the work was executed was lazy. Is that better for you?
Tiling the same design features over and over again with no variance. Lazy. No due diligence to be sure the character actually looks like the character. Lazy. Colour design theory. Lack lustre and lazy, nothing about it “feels” like anything or stands out.
My opinion isn’t going to change here buddy. Lol. It’s a lazy design. If you don’t like that I consider it a lazy design I suggest you get over it. It’s an opinion.
You don’t think it’s a lazy design. You just think it’s a bad design. Ok. What makes it a bad design? Can you explain? Anything about it?
To me, it’s a bad design. Because. It’s. Lazy.
Agree to disagree. Ugh. You’re starting to remind me why I got off these boards.
MnemonicSyntax
Then it's a terrible design, not a lazy design.
Lazy literally means unwilling to work or use energy.
Work was done here. You may not like it. I don't like it. It's bad work based on the original character. But it's not lazy work.
Lazy isn't an interchangeable word for something you don't like. That's distaste.
Xformermike
Well, I'm a designer in the animation industry so maybe I can answer that question for you… If you saw this design randomly some where, and didn't know it was related to Transformers… Would you know it was Cheetor? Likely not.
While, "copying and pasting" obviously isn't what we would want here, making a design that's inspired by the original, and recognizable as Cheetor would be something I would assume people would want. Otherwise, why bother even using the characters name? I use the term lazy because to me the design did none of that. That's the job of reinterpreting a Character in design. They didn't do that, and to me, that makes it a lazy design.
Anyway, maybe that's why some people say "lazy". You said, "Why do people use the term lazy for something they don't like" So, there's my possible explanation for you… It's just a terrible design… But, to clarify… I don't like it BECAUSE it's lazy. I'm not calling it lazy "because I don't like it", I'm calling it lazy- because it's lazy, which makes me not like it. Yup.
MnemonicSyntax
Why do people use "lazy" for something they don't like. Clearly it took a lot of work and even changes from a creative standpoint.
While I don't necessarily care for this look, it would be far lazier to just "copy and paste" Cheetor as we know him.

Yeah… Sure…

The toys sold, even well before the movie came out. Then ROTF toys sold even more, and those toys were a lot more accurate. Said movies sold a lot and those designs were in the movies, that's really all I was saying with that first post.
Xformermike
I don’t believe their designs had an absolute bearing on the success of the 2007 movie. The 2007 movie was a success mainly because it was the first live action Transformers movie.
If you want to argue about the designs being “good” you’re going to have a legion of fans against you. Very few people like them.
Also, TLK designs were totally different and streamlined from the 2007 movie and looked pretty good. It was the story that ruined all of these movies.
Anyway, this Cheetor design is horrible and does nothing to honour the original. It’s just a lazily drawn techy looking cheeta. And that bot mode just sucks. That head design is an eyesore. It gives me the feeling that the artist didn’t really give a fuck and just did “whatever”. Thumbs down from me.

very cool– if change E4 for JP looks like a cool jurassic park truck too with this skin
