The final chapter of the War for Cybertron Trilogy is here – KINGDOM! Generations will be mixing it up next year with a multi generational cross over featuring both G1 and Beast Wars characters in one line (and who knows, maybe more). Today we have an in hand look at the entire wave 1 line up! Hasbro was kind enough to send through a care package a bit early for us to check out. We had to wait to open until yesterday afternoon, so I shot non stop over night and banged out over 200 shots to show what they can do. Included inside are pics for:
- Core – Rattrap
- Core – Optimus Prime
- Core – Vertebreak
- Deluxe – Blackarachnia
- Deluxe – Cheetor
- Deluxe – Warpath
- Deluxe – Paleotrex
- Voyager – Optimus Primal
- Voyager – Cyclonus
- Leader – Beast Wars Megatron
- Leader – Optimus Prime (Earthrise Repack)
Instead of breaking these up into individual galleries, everything is just attached to this story in one pop this time. Due to time constraints, there aren’t any fancy pants shots and these may need a bit more refinement. We’ll go back in later on and update when it’s all done.
Read on to check out all the pics and some quick thoughts on each figure. Feel free to discuss on the 2005 Boards!
Update 11/21/20 – we’ve added adjusted shots of Cyclonus and some additional comparisons shots. They are all at the end of the additional images list.
Overall Thoughts:
Great continuation of the WFC DNA. I’ve been back into Generations since Siege, and these hold their own. The G1 elements will work great with Earthrise and Studio Series 86. The Beasts are a whole new sub-theme that have potential going forward. I’ll take it all.
Core – Rattrap
Solid. Great transformation, more complex than you’d think. There are paint apps, but a lot of raw plastic detracts on first glance. A nice wash would do it well.
Core – Optimus Prime
Not something I was itching for. I’m ok if it helps bring in the younglings tho.
Core – Vertebreak
Sculpt is cool, engineering is impressive. Not sure I need to go deep on these guys tho. Lore and eventual cartoon will decide for me down the road.
Deluxe – Blackarachnia
Really great. Best retail BA yet. Transformation is cool, lots of tucking and folding. Had an issue getting the gun to peg into the bottom in beast mode.
Deluxe – Cheetor
Sculpt and transformation are solid. I haven’t had them all, but best all around retail Cheetor in that light. Paint application and the spots are well done. However, the tone of yellow and blue don’t do it for me. Little too playskool for me. I prefer the MP palette.
Deluxe – Warpath
BANG! KAPOOOOW! POW! KABLAM! ZOWIEE! – perfect head to toe, all aspects, both modes.
Deluxe – Paleotrex
Continues the break apart weaponizer theme. Again impressed with engineering, it works in both modes, looks cool for what it is. And that head – Primal mace FTW. The fact the head comes off and has a spine that plugs in the hands is awesome.
Voyager – Optimus Primal
Solid. Not a pure throwback, artistic license was taken to update him. I haven’t liked retail versions of Primal before now. This one is acceptable, but it didn’t wow me like the MP did, that’s hard to top. I dig bot mode more, on quick glance it has classic feels.
Voyager – Cylconus
SHARP. Tight engineering. Sculpt is clean. No kibble, no gaps or open areas. The color is a bit light, even for animation, and there are some slight color differences between parts. But those are slight dings on a great figure.
Leader – Beast Wars Megatron
Was most excited about this at reveal time. Again, MP is hard to beat. This continues the baby masterpiece theme that WFC has been doing. The colors are again an artistic license. The tans and greens are stark, and very noticeable in robot mode. I would have preferred a palette closer to the MP, especially in robot mode. The purples also change a lot, with a pinkish/magenta on the inner bot mode parts. Little too far from (toon) source for me. Engineering wise, there are a lot of gaps and things didn’t tab together easily or by design. Bottom line, it’s a great piece for those that don’t have the MP, best retail Megs to date. Colors to taste.
Leader – Optimus Prime (Earthrise Repack)
This was a nice surprise. The box on this is gorgeous. Inside, it’s the same as Earthrise Prime. There is a slight, very slight, difference in the blue plastic. The blue is also less glossy than the Earthrise one. This may not even be on purpose, could be just a variance in plastic batch.
So yeah, overall great start. Can’t wait to see what’s coming this year. Also – check the collectible cards – some lore nuggets in there, maybe things to come. The sticker reveal works well, and you can get them back on without ruining it
Also of note – PSA – check your packages when you get them in hand. Some have weapons tied to the back, on the bottom, in an indent. Don’t throw your weapons away!
Now – some key pics. 250+ down below in full!
