Courtesy of IGN we have our first look at the new Target Exclusive Transformers x Ghostbusters Afterlife Ectotron!
Hasbro is now releasing a special Ectotron redeco inspired by the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie. This version features a new a new head-sculpt with “updated Ecto-Goggles” inspired by the movie, Slimer and Masher ghost figures, as well as a special “Transformers Ghostbusters Ghosts of Cybertron” comic.
Ectotron will be a Target exclusive, and pre-orders for the figure go live today at 1:00 PM ET with a $49.99.

Not 2 days ago I was talking with a buddy about getting this version if he can't find the original, however now that I see the packaging in person, this thing can kick rocks. What an ugly blister pack at any price, but especially at $60!

I'm hoping they'll one day do a version of Ectotron based on the original concept for Ecto-1 – basically black with purple and white strobe lights. Maybe a Shattered Glass version?

Wow, this is the same mold that was used in CW Hotspot,CW Onslaught, POTP Inferno. This mold has a lot of history, almost 4 years now. Nice

I looked at the afterlife Ecto and the no ghost logos don’t appear this distressed in the movie. Sony must have decided against this look because of brand association. It gives the vehicle more character in any case.

I kind of hope any Afterlife crossover uses the TFTM cast. The multigenerational aspect works IMHO and then we can get a Ghostbusting Rodimus or Hot Rod.
Although on the subject of retools/redecos, I think a GB retool of Siege Optimus MIGHT even work better than Ecto-35. He has a backpack that becomes his roof. He looks like an earth truck with a roof attachment. Just retool the roof/backpack into a proton pack. The neutrina wand can mount on the side. He'd look like more than a repainted Optimus.

Yeah, I keep comparing the robot decos, and the new version looks far better to me. I just couldn't get into the robot mode of the earlier version, at least not as a Ghostbusters Transformer. But the new one has the 'must-have' sirens ringing in my head.
I like the way the new silver chest goes with the silver-grilled car front/shoulders (goes nicely with the mouthplate, too), and swapping the silver around the waist and knees (which I originally thought a little random for a Ghostbusters theme) for tan as an alternative is a nice touch (IMO). The new colour layout works better for me. And that headsculpt is a definite improvement – I'm kind of getting mad scientist in basement/pest control guy vibes.
As for the vehicle mode, for me, the Ectomobile has always been an old car, even when it was fixed up. I'm kind of used to the idea of it being past it's best days.
But there were also a few things bothering me about Ectotron 1.0's vehicle mode that the new one sort of rectifies.
