Third party company Shockwave Lab have shared via their Weibo account images of their next product: SL-90 LED Upgrade Kit for Earthrise Voyager Quintesson.
This upgrade kit consists of:
- 5 LED units (for each Quintesson face)
- 4 connectors
- A “Quintesson Journal” unit (works as a remote control for the LED light)
An interesting alternative to improve your Quintesson display in your collection. We still have no concrete information on price or release date, but Shockwave Lab products don’t take much time to be available once they share their images.

Not gonna buy this.
If it lights up their eyes, then it's good.
But it light up their noses.
No thank you.
Winter is coming and they all got a cold.

Of course, son was interested in the kit, so ended up getting it.
The magnet powered LEDs are a neat gimmick that I may use and retrofit some of my previous custom LED work. The LEDs activate when the magnet gets close and doesn't have to touch. It's fairly sensitive so you can cycle through the 4 settings rapidly (on, blinking, fading in/out, off).
The gold bullet thingie houses the magnet. It's a very high quality 3D printed part and the print lines are seen only up close. I would say this is just under GX / Go Better. It's really good.
The LED supports for inside the face do not look 3d printed at all. Maybe the prototypes were but the final pieces are not.
This was straightforward to install with the proper screwdriver. I used a #0 Philips screwdriver that I modded by filing down the pointy tip to avoid stripping screw heads.
Of course, the main problem is that the eyes do not illuminate. This is because the support panel itself has the eye pillars, which is separate from the faces and will not light up.
The LED effect works best on the Wisdom head, since the LED is able illuminate almost the whole face. It barely works at all on the War face. The other 3 are in between.
Copied from another thread: Wrath has the red light, Wisdom has the blue light.

Ultimately, still going to pass on any SL LED kits. Their recent non-LED kits have been really good, though, especially their airlock ramps which are NOT 3d printed.

Well, that's fewer parts than the Quintesson needs.

More useless than an asshole on my elbow.
The journal is pretty cool though.

I think it's a case of there imagination over riding there logic circuits. They don't see it for what it is, they see what they envisioned. That's my guess anyway.

Why would we want an "upgrade" kit that makes the Judges noses glow? Better question how do the designers look at this finished product and think,"Perfect! we'll sell hundreds!".

I'd say, given the transformation it would need 3 seperated parts with their own battery compartment, but certainly possible if you replace the molded tubing with light up cable

Agreed

Why?…. why not just make new faces or something with the leds in the eyes? This makes no sense…
dCon
Why not just for the eyes?

I'm sorry but the advertisement/the lights showing through the faces is just terrible. Absolutely f'n terrible.
Good idea but …. New company please execution is so bad here I wouldn't trust it

This is a bit strange for an upgrade kit. IIt doesn\'t seem to light their eyes up at all, like the X-Transbots version. I think that other upgrade with the longer beam of light is a much better one.
