Thanks for all the responses! Good call on keeping them so it's 100% complete.

Keep 'em around for spare parts

I generally only buy DNA kits for titans, so luckily I always have a big box where I can stash all the replaced bits, along with any pieces of the kits that I end up not using (like in Scorp's case, I think he's just fine at his stock height, so I never installed his leg extensions).

i keep mine in the dna box. it makes it easier to keep teack of all that random bs.

Can be worthwhile keeping them in case you ever want to sell him (so you can legitimately call him “100% complete”).

The upgraded claws look to be back in stock:

Also, what is everyone with the parts the DNA kits replace? Stick them in a bin somewhere to collect dust? Trash them?

Thanks!

It would be cheaper and faster just modding a cheap #0. From what I've been told by others, the JIS screwdrivers would also work.
Electronics store screwdriver heads may have the flattened point but are often sold as bits, instead of a long neck screwdriver. I have some bits that would also work but not for this type of figure.
SSninja
Wouldn't you need a JIS screwdriver instead of modifying a Phillips head?
ziltama
You need a screwdriver with a long enough neck (4" or longer preferable) and does not involve interchangeable bits. More specifically, you need a #0 Phillips with a 4+" neck. However, most of the ones sold in hardware stores have too pointy of a tip and will end up stripping screw heads. I've seen some in dedicated computer stores with the proper tip, though.
Easiest screwdriver mod is to use a metal file or low (100) grit sandpaper on a hard surface to get rid of the pointy tip from a #0 Phillips. Not much material actually needs to come off.
Left is proper shape after filing, right is what to avoid.

anybody have any suggestions for a screwdriver to install the scorpion legs with the dna kit? mine are all either too short or too fat

So I painted the eye piece with a gloss red from Tamiya… the face I used Tamiya flat yellow as the base coat, then 4 to 5 coats of Tamiya Pearl White spray to get the desired color I wanted…

Could you post a link for where that face can be purchased please?

View attachment 30122564 I know I shared this a while ago, but for those wanting a more G1 cartoon/ commercial/ comic face, there is a custom face on Shapeways that really makes this figure shine even further…View attachment 30122554View attachment 30122556 View attachment 30122558

Hi!! did you ever hear from this fella again? I cannot find the listings :/

I left my (ver 1) pincers in the sun for half an hour. They installed easily with no issues. I think so long as you dont go in heavy handed installation is fine.

Thanks man, I'll wait too

just heard back and they say the designer had to take some time off to help with a family illness. but they think they will be going back into production soon.
personally i am just going to wait for the newer kits. or maybe someone else takes a crack at them between now and then.
3d resin prints can be funny at times. sometimes they last forever and other times they just break because they were bored and wanted some excitement.
Segor
Thank you man, this is highly valuable.
So, the problem is just in the installation, if installed correctly without issues, there will be no longer a risk of breakage by moving them?
Robots78
The old ones – where the clips and the claws are all just one piece made of the same material – are the ones prone to breakage. That said, if you take measures to avoid over-stressing the clip when installing, the old ones work fine. I just heated the clips up under hot tap water to soften them up before installing, and they were fine. A heat gun would also work, and another user said he filed the clips down to remove some material and that worked. So if the new ones aren't available, the old ones will work fine as long as you warm them up first instead of just slapping them on with no prep.
