Prepare your December pull lists for IDW’s five-part Transformers Escape miniseries, featuring Wheeljack, Hound and Nautica in a story designed by the creative team of author Brian Ruckley with artists Bethany McGuire-Smith, Winston Chan, Sara Pitre-Durocher and Alex Milne & editor David Mariotte.
“Escape’s a cocktail of what I love most about Transformers, with some of my favorite characters and a few surprise guest stars caught up in a pretty epic escalation,” Ruckley said in a statement. “I’ve always thought it would be a pretty terrifying, bewildering experience for aliens — non-Cybertronians — to be caught between warring factions of big transforming robots. We’re exploring the question: Who are the most dangerous Cybertronians of all?”

Sweet, a Wheeljack focused miniseries! Definitely looking forward to that.

Yeah I think they're these guys – the A'ovans from the ongoing

First time I saw them I thought it was just foreshadowing to the future human-cybertronian relations.
It's not surprising they would choose Hound, Nautica and Wheeljack – 3 of the most likely Autobots to be more sympathetic to organic creatures.

approximatetly 23# issues
I don’t know I enjoyed the growth of tension. I mean I’ve seen so many amazing action scenes in Transformers comics that if they are not built up, I am not that interested. Like the moon tether was built up so when it was destroyed and began falling i felt that intensity And I got it, it was the destruction of a major agricultural resource (or in Cybertronian speak a loss in Energon) I.e people are going to starve.
But I get your point it’s not for everyone.

I'm ok with this in general, but how long is the slow burn supposed to take? I'm not reading IDW 2.0 because the Tfwiki recaps aren't grabbing me, and most people here say it's been two years of slow burn.
Can you imagine the Marvel run having hardly any action until issue 20?
Joey Slick
Yeah really. Why don't Hasbro and their licensing partners start producing shows, comics, and toys based on characters that their years of sales analytics demonstrate will not sell as well as the original versions?
Start spending more money on everything non-G1 that gets released and eventually Hasbro will change its strategy.
Strife
One good artist (Milne) out of four. Yikes. I wish him the best of luck not being dragged down by the other three.
Someone please tell IDW to put their 2019 reboot out of its misery. Bad story, bad art. Not even worth torrenting.

That cover of Wheeljack\'s face is beautiful.

Well there you go,

I rather like how their keeping the main comic going while they these side ones that tie-in. It’s the same thing they’ve been doing with TMNT, and I rather enjoy the format.
Nova Maximus
Well I mean, in the issue that came out today the war just started. Sentinel simply hasn't been ousted yet.

So I don’t think I made myself clear. I am saying that in the history of Transformers i don’t think you ever see a story that demonstrates the mass destruction and sheer Hopelessness of being at the receiving end of them (except in All Hail Megatron). Only talked about as a mythology builder. So I think the writer is expressing his desire to tell that type of story.
what is your rush? Every single continuity starts in the middle of the war. Why not show the more realistic political escalation elements which leads to it? Because once it starts, that’s it, the opportunity for a slow burn is gone and we are back to the status quo.
as for the writers, I think they just want to do something unexplored with characters they are helming.

How will this explore the "external view of the civil war" when, in 20-something issues of the main comic, said civil war has yet to break out?
First MTMTE/RID got rid of the war, then the new comic refuses to start it. It seems like IDW wants to do anything with the Transformers but portray them in a war… the one thing that defined most iterations of the franchise. Heck, the thing the species were most famous for in the galaxy, not many species carry on a war for literal millenia.

I can't help but notice this being a trend in comics and cartoons these days, ones that are supposed to be about action. Rise of the TMNT or Teen Titans Go are prime examples. The author of the Netflix She-Ra remake expressed she would like to continue the story in a new season but without any conflict, just exploring everyday life. I don't read IDW's GI Joe but please tell me that Cobra Commander did not hang up his hood and went back to sell used cars?

Awesome! Cant wait to read galaxies with vol 2 and 3 later this year.
BombSquad
I guess, but haven't these characters already featured in the main story? Feels like they could just alternate between the two plots instead of splitting the story.

That cover with Wheeljack's face on is dope.

Who is to say that the humans in this continuity couldn't all die? This isn't a movie; it's a comic book series. Anything could happen. Besides, I don't think this continuity is going to last long. It would make this series vastly more interesting if the Cybertronians, quite unexpectedly, all but eradicated the human race. It could be by accident or the Decepticons destroy the planet. THAT would be uncharted territory.
Also, I'm not sure this random alien species will be destroyed. There is nothing in the solicitation to suggest all the innocent civilians are killed. I am almost 100% sure that there will be survivors of this new alien species and that the survivors (at least one) will become part of the supporting cast. What else is odd is that it omits what planet these civilians are on. Is this taking place on Cybertron? Is this a new squishy species found on Cybertron?
Nova Maximus
Probably so they can focus on the war with the main cast in the main book and focus on smaller characters and another story at the same time.
BombSquad
I wonder why this is a miniseries instead of part of the main book. It's the same creative team and seems to be part of the same story.

Read the title and expected a new animated series like Cyberverse, but even if I like the comics for the most part, I'm slightly dissapointed.
Also, "Escape" sounds more like a sequel to "Siege" than "Earthrise".
